David Beckham hangs out with King Charles and showbiz royalty before knighthood

Daily Mirror7 days ago

David Beckham, who has been tipped for a long-awaited knighthood in King Charles' upcoming birthday Honours list, is rubbing shoulders with celebrities and the royals today
Smiling David Beckham looks all set for his upcoming knighthood as the football star has been snapped attending a Royal event today, hosted by King Charles himself.
David, 50, has today been snapped attending the King's Foundation Awards ceremony at St James' Palace in London – ahead of the official announcement of his long-awaited knighthood. The hunky football star looked dapper in a navy blue double breasted blazer, striped blue shirt and a grey tie.

The football star, who received an OBE for his services to football in 2003, sported an OBE badge in his lapel and a silk pocket square in his jacket pocket. David, who's knighthood hangs in the balance over a gaffe, smiled widely as he stood next to Kate Winslet and Meryl Streep, who were also in attendance at the event today.

The trio were also seen posing with Alan Titchmarsh and Penny Lancaster as they stood in a regal red and gold decorated room inside St James' Palace. Also in attendance was King Charles himself, who sported a dapper navy blue tuxedo along with grey pin stripped trousers and a grey patterned tie.
The King's Foundation Awards celebrates the work of students, graduates, teachers, partners and collaborators associated with the charity, which aims to build sustainable communities and transform lives across the world. Today's event comes just before the King's Birthday Honours list is set to be shared, in which David is expected to be receiving a knighthood.
The long-awaited title will make David and Sir and his wife, Victoria Beckham, a Lady. The upcoming announcement comes at a turbulent time for the head of the Beckham clan as it's been reported the couple are facing a heartache over their eldest son Brooklyn.
It has been claimed the 26 year old, who is married to Nicola Peltz Beckham, is embroiled in a feud in the Beckham family. Brooklyn was noticibly missing from his mum and dad's birthday celebrations this year and failed to post his usual gushing tributes to mark their birthdays on social media, while his brothers Romeo and Cruz shared sweet messages online.

Then, in a joint interview with his wife Nicola, 30, Brooklyn distanced himself from his parents over his hot sauce brand C23. When a customer queried the brand's name on the official website, a member of Brooklyn's team explained, "The 23 included in our brand is a warm nod to Brooklyn's father, David Beckham, who wore number 23 while playing for Real Madrid and LA Galaxy, inspired by NBA legend Michael Jordan."
But during a recent interview, Brooklyn insisted that there's no connection between the moniker of his sauce line, Cloud23, and his illustrious father. He told Glamour Germany in April: "The 23 stands for our engagement date and my age back then." There was no reference to his father David during the conversation, who is also conspicuously absent from the Cloud23 website.

And it was later reported Brooklyn told his parents he 'wants no contact' with them. Sources close to Brooklyn, 26, told Page Six that he was thrilled his dad was finally receiving the honour and had known it was so important.
However, a separate source close to the Beckhams told the publication: "Brooklyn told his family he wants no contact and he's not responding to those that try to connect."
Yet a separate Brooklyn source denied the claim, saying: "This seems to be another deliberate attempt to misrepresent the truth, and it only serves to distract from this honor being bestowed on Brooklyn's father."

Meanwhile, Brooklyn's brothers Romeo and Cruz have shared cryptic posts appearing to reference the feud in their brood. In a poetic upload, Romeo shared: "Life is short. Time is fast. No replays. So love and enjoy every moment as it comes." Younger brother Cruz appeared to be in a similar mood and shared a number of song choices. Taking to his own Stories on the platform, Cruz posted snaps of The Beach Boys tune Sloop John B, while also uploading the track Family Affair by Sly & The Family Stone.
And Cruz had earlier posted an old image of his family, showing himself, Brooklyn, their siblings and mum Victoria Beckham in years gone by. However, Brooklyn offered a cryptic post of his own, sharing a photo of himself with his back turned to the camera.

Alexander-Arnold opens up on mixed emotions after making Real Madrid debut

Trent Alexander-Arnold made his Real Madrid debut as they were held in their Club World Cup opener and admitted he was disappointed not to get a win in his first outing Trent Alexander-Arnold confessed making his Real Madrid debut is "something every player dreams of" but their failure to win in the Club World Cup meant there was "some disappointment". The former Liverpool right-back has long been linked with Los Blancos and made the move recently with his contract at Anfield expiring. He's now rubbing shoulders with pal Jude Bellingham as well as Vinicius Jnr and the Arsenal-linked Rodrygo. ‌ They ran out for their opening game in FIFA's Club World Cup but underwhelmed as they were held by Saudi outfit Al-Hilal. New manager Xabi Alonso is still getting to grips with his squad but Real were firm favourites to down the Middle Eastern side. ‌ Gonzalo Garcia's opener was cancelled out by a penalty from Ruben Neves as Dean Huijsen, formerly of Bournemouth, was another ex-Premier League star to make his debut for the Spanish giants. Alexander-Arnold admits that he must deal an expectation that tips Real to win "every game you play in" and that clearly soured his first outing as he thanked his new employers and his team-mates for their early show of support after he made the switch. He said: "Incredible day to have made my debut for Real Madrid. It's something almost every player dreams of so to be able to achieve it is huge for me. There's some disappointment not to have won the game but it's the mentality you need to have as a Real player is to want and expect to win every game you've played in. "I've felt the support from the moment I signed the club. Absolutely sensational. The fan base is truly global all around the world and you feel it every day. "I've been learning Spanish a couple of months. I want to adapt and give myself the best start possible. It's important to show the intent that I want to embrace the culture and adapt as best as possible. That was important for me to do so." ‌ After a trophyless season last term Alonso, who replaced the iconic Carlo Ancelotti, maintains that the changes he's looking for won't happen overnight. "I knew it would take time," he said. "There are things we have to change. We'll have to correct them, and we'll keep doing that. Everything takes time, we've had nine days, and some players have had just three training sessions. It's demanding, we're in a competition, but we want to learn, and what we want to do will take time." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Anne Burrell dies at 55: Beloved Food Network star passes away

Beloved Food Network star Anne Burrell has died aged 55. The TV chef - who became synonymous with her trademark spiky platinum hair - passed away on Tuesday morning at her home in Brooklyn, New York. 'Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend — her smile lit up every room she entered,' her family said in a statement obtained by People. 'Anne's light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. 'Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.' She is survived by husband Stuart Claxton, whom she wed in October 2021 in an autumn-themed ceremony and reception in her hometown of Cazenovia, New York. Law enforcement told People that officers from NYPD's 76th Precinct responded to a call about 'an unconscious and unresponsive 55-year-old female' at 7:50 a.m. EST on Tuesday. Once Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived, they 'pronounced [Burrell] deceased on scene.' 'An epic wager that epitomized her unbeatable spirit. It was a wager I ultimately lost, but I couldn't imagine losing to a more fierce competitor,' he wrote. 'Outside of Worst Cooks I came to know her as a generous and supportive colleague and an even better friend. 'I'll always remember her unwavering dedication, not just to food, but to lifting others up. She believed in nurturing culinary potential and celebrating small victories, whether in an amateur cook or on a charity fundraiser. 'That was Anne. Uncompromising in her standards, yet tender in her mentorship,' he gushed. Then Irvine penned a message to Burrell's grieving family. 'To her husband Stuart, her stepson Javier, her mother Marlene, sister Jane, and her many friends and fans: please know that Anne's warmth, vibrant spirit, and generous heart will echo in kitchens around the world and in our hearts forever.' Irvine closed out the tribute with: 'Rest in peace, Chef. Your legacy as a champion of food, kindness, and empowerment will continue to inspire. David Beckham has been spotted celebrating with his family since receiving a knighthood - and while with his mum at a pie and mash shop an adoring fan gatecrashed their meal A man gatecrashed Sir David Beckham having a meal with his mother to celebrate his knighthood but he had a very wholesome reaction. David Beckham has said receiving a knighthood is a "truly humbling honour" as the England football icon's efforts are recognised in the King's Birthday Honours list. The 50-year-old will become a Sir after decades as one of the country's most loved figures. ‌ Beckham was awarded the honour for services to sport and to charity. His former club were among those to share in his joy as they said: "Sir David Beckham. Massive congratulations from everyone at United on this special achievement Becks - you truly deserve this." ‌ Pesh Kapashiawala saw Sir David eating at a pie and mash shop in Waltham Abbey, Essex called Tony's on Monday, June 16 and he could not avoid grabbing a selfie with the former England football captain. Mr Kapashiawala of foodbank charity 3Food4U said: "We spotted him in there and we just thought to see if he would have a word with us. We wanted to congratulate him on his knighthood and see if he would support us with our project. "One of the people there was his mother Sandra - and it was quite an intimate moment for him and his mother. I felt really bad afterwards thinking I had disturbed his special moment. He is a true gentleman and spent a few moments with us to talk about our charity and his award." Mr Kapashiawala said the star was "very generous" for still making time to chat about his foodbank charity. He stated: "He gets disturbed all the time but ultimately he is still a person and we appreciate him. He did allow us to take a selfie with him. ‌ "He was very genuinely impressed with what we are doing and said next time he is around he will be in touch with our centre." ‌ Mr Kapashiawala added: " David Beckham is somebody I have grown up with. He is a hero and somebody that I absolutely look up to anyway - a great role model within the community and the sports arena. With David we were very grateful it did click and maybe it will lead to some opportunities to us as well." Sir David said in a statement: 'Growing up in east London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour. To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career and literally a boyhood dream come true. 'Off the pitch I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to represent Britain around the world and work with incredible organisations that are supporting communities in need and inspiring the next generation. 'I'm so lucky to be able to do the work that I do and I'm grateful to be recognised for work that gives me so much fulfilment. It will take a little while for the news to sink in but I'm immensely proud and it's such an emotional moment for me to share with my family.' Meanwhile, like every person who has received a knighthood, Sir David will be treated to an official ceremony. The ceremony, which often happens at Buckingham Palace, will see David kneel in front of a monarch – which can be either the King or another member of the Royal Family such as Princess Anne or Prince William – who will then touch the recipient's shoulder with a sword.
