'A 40-year-old amnesic man named K is taken in by a 60-year-old lonely clickworker on the poor side of a rainy Brazilian city,' reads a synopsis for the movie. 'After using an addictive AI device in a course for people with the strange [neurological] syndrome, K embarks on a tragic and absurd journey to find where he truly belongs.' Described as 'an unconventional political lo-fi sci-fi shot in guerrilla style for 16 days' on a tiny budget, the independent Brazilian production survived the country's worst flood in over 80 years, which displaced half a million people and put cities underwater for almost two months. As such, the dystopian drama survived a real-life drama.
'After the flood destroyed our locations, Davi radically incorporated AI imagery that he created himself, both as a dystopian element previously imagined for the story and as an ironic and provocative solution to finish the film, exploring the poetic potential in the stupidity and absurdity of AI images, a cinematic and philosophical debate that the film addresses,' says producer Paola Wink.
Pretto's previous features were Castanha (2014), Rifle (2017), and Continent (2024). 'Influenced by the exponential growth of luxury private neighborhoods that emulate foreign countries for the privileged few in the city I live, Porto Alegre, I wrote this film thinking about how Brazilian division and inequality persist, both as urban geography and as social concept – selling this 'other country' as an attainable consumer desire,' the filmmaker explains.
'In this context, artificial intelligence doubles as the virtual false image of an emulated city and as a tool that promises that these private spaces for the elite will function without the need for servants, finally separating these enclaves from the surrounding city,' Pretto says. 'The story reflects on the cognitive and political dangers of advances in artificial intelligence, a technology that has changed the world of work, social relations, and altered our perception of what is real and what is not.'

Elon Musk's AI company has officially rolled out Grok Imagine, xAI's image and video generator, to all SuperGrok and Premium+ X subscribers on its iOS app. And true to form for Musk, who positions Grok as an unfiltered, boundary-pushing AI, the generator allows users to make NSFW content. Grok Imagine, which promises to turn text or image prompts into a 15-second video featuring native audio, has a 'spicy mode' that allows users to generate sexually explicit content including partial female nudity . There are limits to how explicit one can get. Many of our spicier prompts – made in the name of Journalism! – generate blurred out images that are 'moderated' and therefore inaccessible. We were, however, able to generate semi-nude imagery. The NSFW content is unsurprising for xAI, given the release last month of a raunchy, hyper-sexualized anime AI companion. But just as Grok's unrestrained nature was entertaining until it started spewing hateful, antisemitic, misogynistic content, Grok Imagine could be poised to bring its own set of unintended consequences. CNBC first reported the existence of a 'spicy mode' last week after an xAI employee Mati Roy said in a now-deleted post on X: 'Grok Imagine videos have a spicy mode that can do nudity.' TechCrunch has reached out to xAI for more information. The existing limitations with Grok Imagine are somewhat heartening given the model also lets you create content of celebrities – anyone from Donald Trump to Taylor Swift – and there appears to be additional restrictions on those. For example, TechCrunch tried, and failed, to generate an image of Trump pregnant. Grok Imagine only generated images of Trump holding a baby or next to a pregnant woman. While it's still early days for Grok Imagine, which aims to compete with incumbents like Google DeepMind, OpenAI, Runway, and Chinese rivals, the images and videos generated of humans are still a bit lost in the uncanny valley, with waxy-looking skin that verges on cartoonish at times. Still, the generator is impressive. It produces images in seconds from a text prompt, and continues to auto-generate new images as you scroll. Those images can then be animated into stylized videos. The user-interface is also seamless and intuitive. Musk said on X that the model would 'get better every day.'

This morning, launched a Social Feed For its AI Avatars, that features interactive, mixable, characters and entertainment produced by users and creators. With the rollout of the AI character feed of its 20 million users, is the first synthetic social platform. Content is created and recreated by users with AI. In this way, every post is an entry point into an evolving, participatory storyworld. 'This is the first AI-native feed in the world,' said Karandeep Anand, CEO of in an interview ahead of the launch. 'So far, Character was a one-to-one chat-centric app. Today, we're making it a fully social platform where the line between creator and consumer disappears.' The Feed showcases a steady stream of creator-made content: short videos, remixable scenes, character cards, and chat snippets. Each can be repurposed or extended with one tap. Anand describes it as a platform where 'doomscrolling is dead,' replaced by remix culture and interactive storytelling. 'When I say social feed, I don't mean another TikTok or Instagram,' he added. Some characters have huge followings. Others are personal, private, or experimental. 'The characters are summoned by people,' Anand explained. 'It's not a one-time creation. Many of our creators make hundreds of updates per month to refine personality, backstory, and lore.' This creator-driven model sets apart from rivals like Meta and Genies.
