Power Rangers' Trini Takes Center Stage In a New Book

Gizmodo11-05-2025

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers continue to get spinoff projects, and now it's Trini's turn.
The Mighty Morhpin era of the Power Rangers casts a long shadow over the whole franchise, and its casting in particular. Controversial and infamous as it's been to have the Black and Yellow Rangers played respectively by Black actor Walter Jones III and the late Asian actor Thuy Trang, their roles as Zack and Trini proved foundational for a lot of viewers. Trini officially died prior to the 2023 special Once and Always, but the character is returning again as the lead in an upcoming novel.
Written by Diana Ma (Heiress Apparently), Power Rangers: Force of Chaos explores Trini's POV during the Mighty Morphin team's early days. As the team works through their initial feelings about one another, including Trini's own 'complicated history' with Zack, the book will delve into her Chinese heritage and being a martial artist superhero. Ma, in a statement to Polygon (which also has an excerpt), teased the book would 'bring Chinese mythology' and let her show her love for the character she grew up watching.
'Trini was important to me because she was one of the first Asian-American superheroes I saw on TV,' said Ma. 'As a Chinese American superhero-loving fangirl, it was powerful for me to see this representation in a kids' TV show. Knowing that Power Ranger fans were watching and connecting to Trini as she kicked Putty butt as part of a superhero team committed to protecting the universe made me feel seen.'
Power Rangers: Force of Chaos releases this Tuesday, May 13.

How Osaka's World Expo Compares to Its Famous Predecessors

The 2025 World Expo opened in Osaka in April with a $66 billion price tag, featuring pavilions from 158 countries. The event isn't generating the same buzz as the first world's fair held in the Japanese city in 1970, which featured a bold, futuristic theme and lots of wild architecture. And to many, these international spectacles are viewed as relics of the past. But historian Charles Pappas argues that world's fairs are still worth having in an ever-more-fractious world. In a conversation with contributor Mark Byrnes, he discusses his new book Nobody Sits Like The French, which makes his case by tracing how the historic fairs of Paris (the city hosted seven since 1855) helped shape the infrastructure that transformed life in the French capital. They also discuss how the current expo stacks up to its more recent predecessors, many of which have been held in non-Western cities. Konami is remaking the original Silent Hill

Get ready for more Silent Hill. As part of its Press Start online presentation on Thursday, Konami announced that it's remaking the original Silent Hill in partnership with Bloober Team, the studio that developed last year's well-received Silent Hill 2 remake. Konami didn't share any more details beyond that the game is in development; the presentation didn't include any footage, screenshots, or even an estimated release date. The presentation also included a segment about Silent Hill F, the new entry in the series that's launching on September 25th. Silent Hill F is the first title in the series set in Japan, and during the segment, the game's developers talked about how they designed the game and some of their inspirations. It all looks pretty frightening. Konami kicked off the show with a segment on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. Part of the segment included footage of the Ape Escape -themed 'Snake vs. Monkey' mode, available on PS5 and Steam, the Bomberman -themed 'Snake vs. Bomberman' mode that you can play on Xbox Series X / S, and a new 'Fox Hunt' online multiplayer mode. Delta is set to release on August 28th.

Multiplayer returns to the Metal Gear franchise after twelve years

After an absence of 12 years, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is bringing back multiplayer, but Konami cautions fans to expect a completely different experience than the original Metal Gear Online. Announced at Konami's Press Start Live event, the new multiplayer mode titled Fox Hunt is something like hide-and-seek on steroids, with a dash of camouflage thrown in. According to Yu Sahara, director of the multiplayer aspect, 'Fox Hunt is a completely original online multiplayer mode. Although it shares the same world with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the gameplay is completely different.' That said, he did acknowledge the nostalgia fans have for the original Metal Gear Online. 'When we say Metal Gear multiplayer, many fans will probably think of Metal Gear Online, but Fox Hunt will be its own new type of mode. We very much appreciate all the long-time fans of MGO who have always wanted to see it make a comeback, but the landscape of multiplayer games has changed a lot since MGO. It took a lot of careful consideration to think about what a new online mode should look like.' Recommended Videos Sahara continues, 'We challenged ourselves to make something unique that is more than just a shoot-out. We've used that back-and-forth tension or searching out the enemy to create an online experience unique to Metal Gear.' Our passionate team of developers take us on an extended look into the creation of METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER and its bonus content 🐍 ❗#KonamiPressStart — KONAMI UK (@KONAMIUK) June 12, 2025 Though the team shared no further details, Sahara said he will have more information later and asked fans to stay tuned to Konami's official pages to find out more. Konami also revealed more information about the main game, including updates to its AI and animations. In addition to news about Metal Gear Solid, the Press Start Live event also announced that the Suikoden I & II Remaster is coming to Nintendo Switch 2. Horror fans can celebrate, too: Konami also announced a remake of the first Silent Hill game is in the works.
