Konami is remaking the original Silent Hill
Get ready for more Silent Hill. As part of its Press Start online presentation on Thursday, Konami announced that it's remaking the original Silent Hill in partnership with Bloober Team, the studio that developed last year's well-received Silent Hill 2 remake. Konami didn't share any more details beyond that the game is in development; the presentation didn't include any footage, screenshots, or even an estimated release date.
The presentation also included a segment about Silent Hill F, the new entry in the series that's launching on September 25th. Silent Hill F is the first title in the series set in Japan, and during the segment, the game's developers talked about how they designed the game and some of their inspirations. It all looks pretty frightening.
Konami kicked off the show with a segment on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3. Part of the segment included footage of the Ape Escape -themed 'Snake vs. Monkey' mode, available on PS5 and Steam, the Bomberman -themed 'Snake vs. Bomberman' mode that you can play on Xbox Series X / S, and a new 'Fox Hunt' online multiplayer mode. Delta is set to release on August 28th.

Sony Touts ‘Strong' Marathon Engagement, Confirms Release Window
Marathon The future of Marathon after the last month or so feels rather unsteady, but in a new SIE presentation, Sony is reinforcing that it's an important game in its lineup, and it's projecting confidence. Sony's Herman Hulst took some time during his overview of PlayStation's offerings to single Marathon out as 'an innovative and bold take on the extraction shooter genre.' This was joined by a slide that under the banner 'FY25 Focus,' which said that there is 'Strong early engagement for Bungie's bold and innovative new title.' Marathon If you've been following the saga of Marathon, all this is a bit eyebrow-raising. For starters, at least the presentation reinforces a window for Marathon, Fiscal Year 2025, in a time when most players believe it will be delayed out of its current September 23, 2024 release date. FY25 ends in March 2026, so it would not be something huge like a year delay. Even six months is pushing it, so if there is one, it would not be all that long, and you would wonder what might be able to be changed or fixed in that time. That leads to the next aspect of this, this supposed 'strong engagement.' Sure, there's been strong engagement, but that consists of a lot of negativity about its gameplay reveal, then an overwhelming sense that the Closed Alpha was underwhelming, then an industry-wide scandal where it was revealed that plagiarized art had made it through the game's pipeline over a number of years and had ended up in the game itself. So yes, there was 'engagement.' FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Either Sony is completely divorced from the online conversation surrounding Marathon, or they see where things are headed and feel forced to project strength regardless. Saying nothing about Marathon or waffling on it here would do nothing to help them or the game so of course, yes, you say you believe in the game, even if you're dancing around what's actually happening by bragging about 'engagement.' But internally, even Bungie is extremely concerned about where things are, and where things are going from here. Live services The chart of Sony's live service prospects is bleak. There's no real getting around that. It considers its eternal baseball game, The Show, a live service. Destiny 2 has been bleeding players and is now entering a very risky new era that seems unlikely to return the game to its glory days. Marathon is on the edge of oblivion at this point. It's hilarious they're even saying Fairgames is still actually coming out. The unequivocal bright spot here is Helldivers 2, which has been true since it launched. But its developer, Arrowhead, will not be working with Sony for its next game. Over the course of the past two months, I have arrived at the conclusion that Marathon is just not going to work. The vibes are awful, the problems with the game are mostly etched in stone, and now we have an art theft scandal on top of that. I do expect a delay to be announced, but it won't be lengthy, and I do not believe this is going to be the release that both Sony and Bungie need, whatever they're saying in their slideshow. Switch, Xbox, and the portable future of games
The Switch 2 is a hit (and a supply chain success story). Microsoft is starting to show off its plan for the future of Xbox. And everywhere you look, there are reasons to think we're headed toward a very different kind of gaming device. Maybe it'll be even more modular and portable. Maybe it'll be even more like a Windows PC. Maybe it'll be all that a bunch of other things besides. On this episode of The Vergecast, Nilay and David are joined by The Verge 's Jake Kastrenakes to talk all about the future of gaming. We'll have more of a Switch 2 review on the show next Tuesday, but for now there's a lot of Xbox Ally stuff to talk about, and 3.5 million Switch 2s to reckon with. Before we get into that, though, we talk a bit more about this year's WWDC, why Apple executives spent so much time apologizing for and explaining Siri, and why F1 seemed to be what the company actually wanted to talk about. After that, we run through some AI news. Because there's a lot of it. Disney is suing Midjourney; Google Zero is rapidly approaching; Alexa Plus is apparently actually out there; and the Dia browser has some big ideas about chatbots. And it all uses some water, says Sam Altman, citing no sources. Finally, in the lightning round, it's time for another round of Brendan Carr is a Dummy, plus the latest on the Warner Bros. Discovery split, some super-fast USB drives, and Meta's next new messaging platform. If you want to know more about everything we discuss in this episode, here are some links to get you started, beginning with gaming and gadget news: Craig Federighi confirms Apple's first attempt at an AI Siri wasn't good enough From Variety: 'F1' and Apple's Movie Strategy: Inside Tim Cook, Lewis Hamilton's Big Bet Nintendo's Switch 2 is the fastest-selling game console of all time Nintendo says your bad Switch 2 battery life might be a bug Microsoft and Asus announce two Xbox Ally handhelds with new Xbox full-screen experience This is how Microsoft is combining Windows and Xbox for handheld PCs Xbox's new handheld is a surprisingly comfortable way to play Gears of War Microsoft just teased its next-gen Xbox console, and nobody noticed The Nothing Phone 3 is coming to the US, and not in beta. And in AI news: Online publishers are facing a chatbot calamity. The Dia browser is a big bet on the web — and an even bigger bet on AI Alexa Plus now has a million users and could be coming to you this summer Disney and Universal sue Midjourney for making AI ripoffs of their biggest characters Sam Altman claims an average ChatGPT query uses 'roughly one fifteenth of a teaspoon' of water And in the lightning round:

5 sci-fi movies on Netflix you need to watch in June 2025
Netflix's sci-fi page is light on new movies in June. Due to the lack of new entries, our recommendations are movies that have been on the streamer for months. One of our picks is Dune, the original movie adaptation from the '80s, not the 2020s. If Dune isn't your speed, try Godzilla Minus One, a masterful monster movie. The Oscar-winning film might even move you to tears. If you don't believe me, then try it yourself along with these other films. Recommended Videos We also have guides to the best new movies to stream, the best movies on Netflix, the best movies on Hulu, the best movies on Amazon Prime Video, the best movies on Max, and the best movies on Disney+. Godzilla Minus One (2023) The recent Godzilla movies are mindless entertainment. That's a compliment, by the way. Watching Godzilla form a tag team with Kong to take on otherworldly creatures is a satisfying time at the movies. However, Godzilla Minus One is in a league of its own. The Oscar-winning epic follows Shikishima (Ryunosuke Kamiki), a Japanese WWII pilot who defects from his post, only to watch his comrades get wiped out by Godzilla. Plagued by survivor's guilt, Shikishima gets a shot at redemption when he joins a small group of soldiers chosen to defend Japan from Godzilla. Who knew a movie with a giant lizard could include one of the most moving depictions of grief and trauma? Stream Godzilla Minus One on Netflix. The Adam Project (2022) Shawn Levy's last three movies have all been headlined by Ryan Reynolds. The first movie, Free Guy, became a sleeper hit, and the most recent, Deadpool & Wolverine, broke box office records. The movie sandwiched between the two was The Adam Project, a sci-fi adventure and one of the five most popular English-language movies on Netflix. Pilot Adam Reed (Reynolds) travels back in time from 2050 to 2022 when he encounters his 12-year-old self (Walker Scobell) one year after the death of his father. Adult Adam must work with his younger self to prevent the assassination of his wife (Zoe Saldaña). Like most of Levy's movies, there's a surprising amount of heart in this middle-of-the-road sci-fi adventure. Stream The Adam Project on Netflix. Dune (1984) Is Dune bad? The film's director, the late David Lynch, disowned the movie. Two things can be true: Dune is mediocre, and it was ahead of its time. Before Timothée Chalamet became Lisan al Gaib, Kyle MacLachlan starred as Paul Atreides, the heir to House Atreides who must unite the Fremen on Arrakis in their fight against the Harkonnens. Lynch's movie is a fascinating attempt to bring an unadaptable book to the screen. The large amount of exposition forced Denis Villeneuve to split up the source material into two movies. Still, Lynch laid the blueprint for Villeneuve's spectacular adaptations. Stream Dune on Netflix. Time Cut (2024) Time Cut is Scream with a time travel storyline. In the present, Lucy Field (Madison Bailey) still mourns the death of her older sister, Summer Field (Antonia Gentry). The Fields' parents also struggle to cope and neglect Lucy in the process. While exploring a strange light in a barn, Lucy discovers a time machine and travels back to 2003, days before Summer's death. Gifted with this newfound opportunity, Lucy plans to save her sister. Be prepared for some physics because time travel movies have specific rules that must be obeyed. Stream Time Cut on Netflix. Outside the Wire (2021) Anthony Mackie playing a soldier is not exclusive to the Captain America movies. Mackie played an android super-soldier in Outside the Wire. Drone pilot Thomas Harp (Damson Idris) disobeys an order to save nearly 40 soldiers. However, two Marines die from Harp's mistake, so he's sent to combat duty at a base in the Ukraine as punishment. Harp now serves under the command of Harp (Mackie), who is secretly an android disguised as a human. The two reluctantly team up to find a doomsday device before nuclear war breaks out. Outside the Wire is a serviceable sci-fi action movie with two charismatic leads. Stream Outside the Wire on Netflix.
