Wrexham duo Andy Cannon and Mo Faal still out injured

Phil Parkinson's men finished runners-up in League One last term to secure an historic third successive promotion.
Back in the Championship for the first time in 43 years, the Reds begin the campaign with a clash against Southampton - relegated from the Premier League in 2024-25 - at St Marys Stadium on Saturday August 9, with the game kicking off at 12.30pm after being selected for live television coverage.
Before them, Wrexham have a pre-season tour to Australia and New Zealand, which includes matches against Melbourne Victory, Sydney FC, and Wellington Phoenix, and the build-up starts with a first training session today.
But midfielder Andy Cannon and striker Mo Faal are still recovering from injury.
Cannon underwent surgery after rupturing a cruciate ligament during the 2-1 win at Mansfield Town on February 23 and is facing a lengthy spell out of action while Faal sustained a thigh problem during training in April.
"The players were back in for testing on Wednesday and pre-season starts officially on Monday," said Parkinson.
"It has been good for the lads to have a bit of time off.
"They have obviously been doing the off-season programmes we gave them and a few have had appointments with specialists to clear up minor issues so that everybody comes back in a good place.
"Mo has still got a problem with his thigh which will take a while and Andy is out as well but everybody else should be fit and raring to go.
"Andy has got quite a long road ahead of him. We will make sure that he steps up his work in the next few months and he is ready."

Ollie Watkins emerges as Man Utd transfer target as talks held with Aston Villa

Manchester United are in the market for a new striker this summer and have a new target in mind with a deal dependent on an exit from Old Trafford over the coming months Manchester United have made contact with Aston Villa regarding the signing of Ollie Watkins as they search for a new forward. The Red Devils are determined to improve their frontline this summer following a dismal campaign. United have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves, while they are still attempting to get a deal for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo over the line. A more traditional centre-forward is also on their list. ‌ Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike have both been linked but little progress has been made in pursuit of the duo. But now, it appears that United have a target a little closer to home. ‌ According to The Athletic, Aston Villa's Watkins has been added to their list of possible striker signings. It is reported that contact between United and Villa chiefs has already been made via intermediaries to explore the conditions of a deal. Conversations initially surfaced ahead of Marcus Rashford 's loan move to the Midlands but did not progress any further. Watkins is seen as a potential replacement for Rasmus Hojlund should he leave amid interest from Inter Milan. Speaking about his future last month, the Danish forward said: "I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United. I'm looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I'm fully dedicated to the project that's underway. "I know I can't get much out of reading things. I know what the facts are, and that is that I have a contract with Manchester United until 2030. I expect to play there, so I'm just getting ready for some summer vacation and then hopefully a good pre-season." As it stands, a move to Old Trafford is not close for Watkins despite a sale being beneficial for Villa's PSR calculations. He was ironically on United's list of options in 2023 but they instead decided to move for Hojlund, who has endured a tricky time of things. ‌ The Red Devils would prefer to sell the Dane and have accepted that they might have to accept a figure lower than his perceived value. Meanwhile, Villa value Watkins at around £60m given there is still three years remaining on his contract. That price will not be particularly easy for United to pay though. Premier League rivals Arsenal previously baulked at that figure in January having also held talks. They reportedly valued him at around £40m. Watkins enjoyed another standout season for Villa last term despite having temporarily been ousted by Jhon Duran ahead of his move to Saudi Arabia. The 29-year-old scored 17 goals and notched 14 assists in all competitions.

Northern Ireland star and former Larne and Portadown hero relishing ‘new start' after linking up with ambitious EFL outfit

The ambitious EFL League Two club have recruited the former Larne and Portadown frontman from Dutch second-tier side ADO Den Haag. Bonis (25) impressed after making the switch to the Netherlands from Larne in the summer of 2024, bagging 11 League goals to help fire Den Haag into the Promotion Play-Offs. He missed out on the chance to play in the Eredivisie in the 2025/26 season after the Storks lost out over two legs to eventual Play-Off winners Telstar, but it was still a highly successful campaign for the former Seagoe man as he also made his senior Northern Ireland debut in a goalless draw against Belarus back in October. Bonis remained in Michael O'Neill's fold and played in both legs of a friendly double-header against Switzerland and Sweden in March as well as the home victory over Iceland in June. Now he will aim to help the Spireites – who reached the League Two Play-Offs in 2024/25, their first season back in the EFL after gaining promotion from the National League – push on and make a fresh bid to reach the third-tier. Bonis is no stranger to silverware having previously won back-to-back Irish League crowns with Larne in 2023 and 2024 prior to his Den Haag switch as well as the Championship title in 2020 with Portadown, from whom he was a reported £100,000 purchase for the Invermen back in January 2022. After completing his move to Chesterfield, Bonis commented: 'It's great to be a part of the club. I think a new start in England will be good for me. 'I can't wait to play in front of the fans. I'm excited to get going.'
