WA's blooming secret: Where to find fresh flowers daily
A working flower farm that has been quietly growing some of the states most stunning blooms over the last 35 years is now open to the public seven days a week.
Just off the Bussell Highway between Busselton and Margaret River sits Yelverton Protea Farm set over two hundred acres of undulating fields and nurtured by the Island Brook creek.
The flower farm was previously focused on selling to wholesalers but now invites members of the public to visit the farm to buy blooms such as Proteas and Native Wildflowers.
'We've always grown for the wholesale market . . . but opening our gates to the public has become such a rewarding part of what we do. People are blown away by what they find here,' co-owner Laura Thorpe said.
The farm will give visitors a unique opportunity to see a working commercial farm up close.
'You'll see muddy boots, tractors, packing tables… but also some of the most incredible flowers you'll ever lay eyes on,' Ms Thorpe said.
The harvest shed is the heart of the farm and is open every day, stocked with fresh Proteas, native bunches and Proteaceae plants ready to take home. Visitors can browse, learn about the flowers, and chat directly with the team. Proteas at Yelverton Protea Farm. Credit: Instagram / Yelverton Protea Farm
Proteas are a South African native flower also known as sugarbushes and have been grown in WA for the past 40 years.
Flower-fans have commented on the Yelverton Protea Farm's Instagram page showing support for the local business as they prepare for mothers day.
'We loved the day in the life 🙌 lots of lucky mums this weekend 💐,' one person wrote.
'A great collection of flowers for Mother's Day week,' another commented.
Yelverton Protea Farm is now open daily from 10am to 5pm.

Billionaire to leave fortune to 100 children he's fathered
Last year, a clinic in Moscow began advertising its supply of Durov's sperm and offering free IVF for women willing to have a child with 'one of the most famous and successful entrepreneurs of our time'. The AltraVita clinic said: 'Pavel Durov is willing to finance all the IVF protocols that use his sperm. It is a very generous contribution to society from someone who wants to help those dreaming of becoming parents.' Durov's 100 children rank him among the world's top sperm donors, though he is not the most prolific. Jonathan Jacob Meijer, a Dutch YouTuber, reportedly fathered 1000 children, according to Netflix, although he insists it is only 550. Durov is not the only technology entrepreneur to advocate having a large number of children. Elon Musk is reported to have at least 14 children, who he has referred to as his 'legion' and has pushed 'smart people' to have more offspring. 'A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilisation faces by far,' Musk said in 2022. In the US, a 'pro-natalist' movement has emerged amongst conservatives urging people to have more children in order to tackle declining birth rates. 'I want more babies in the United States of America,' JD Vance said in his first address as vice president in January. Durov founded VKontakte, known as Russia's Facebook, before he left the business and Russia under pressure from the Kremlin in 2014. He later founded Telegram, an encrypted messaging app used by more than 1 billion people, as well as a cryptocurrency. Telegram has repeatedly faced criticism for its light-touch content moderation and last year Durov was charged in France with complicity in spreading child abuse online and allowing drug trafficking. He has denied the charges and told Le Point they were 'totally absurd'. Durov runs Telegram, which only has around 50 staff, from Dubai, although since his arrest in France he has been barred from leaving the country. Born in the Soviet Union, he now has French and Emirati citizenship. Despite his vast paper fortune, he is known for his minimalist lifestyle, strict diet and veganism. He told Le Point he did not own a 'house, yacht or private jet', although he enjoyed staying in 'beautiful hotels'. Loading The billionaire is also fitness guru. He told Le Point he begins his day with 300 push-ups and 300 squats and posts videos to his Instagram of his ice baths. His arrest last August at Le Bourget airport fractured a previously friendly relationship with the French state. Durov's French citizenship application was fast-tracked by Emmanuel Macron, an active Telegram user, who had previously personally spoken with the billionaire over the app.

Meghan Markle's viral twerking video a 'distasteful surprise', given her desires for respect and privacy
Meghan Markle gave us a fascinating example of her acting abilities a couple of weeks ago when she hosted the bonus episode of her 'Confessions of a Female Founder'. Her guest was Beyonce's mother Tina Knowles, a businesswoman who appeared to give Meghan a subtle telling off during the podcast. The Duchess of Sussex talked about how she paused the distribution of her As Ever products after they sold out within 45 minutes of its launch last April. 'But what do you do then?' Knowles appeared to bluntly ask, before she went on later describing the importance of being consistent in selling products. Meghan replied as if she was an overworked victim saying she decided to 'pause' in order to restock her As Ever brand. The difficulties have caused her 'tears' behind the scenes because she has so many different things to do at the same time and also be a mother, wife and a businesswoman. She told Tina her concern: 'I don't want you to eat that jam once every six months. I want it to be on your shelf all the time.' Tina also told Meghan during the podcast that family should always be a priority. There seemed no doubt Meghan wanted all of us to feel sorry for her. But surprise, surprise almost straight away a very bright Meghan was back on Instagram showing viewers bowls of strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, and telling them excitedly that her As Ever products, including raspberry spread, would be returning. She added that she 'can't wait' to show off her new additions later this month. Meghan is also going to launch a series of new products which include rosé wine, and she'll be helping travellers find accommodation. Even her lifestyle brand's website was upbeat: 'As Ever is more than a brand - it's a love language. Created by Meghan'. What on earth is she playing at? Perhaps Meghan doesn't want to sit down with colleagues for six months and work things out carefully to get her brand into gear - as she appears to be at her happiest when she is being seen. She also seemed to have been prompted by Lilibet's fourth birthday to face the spotlight in a very different way by posting a video of herself when she was in the delivery room about to give birth to her daughter. It's hard to know why she wanted to wait so long. She showed us how to twerk and how she could get a nine-month-old bump to bounce up and down. We saw her bending down very low with her dress pushed up. I've had three babies and I couldn't have done anything like that just before birth. Harry, incidentally, did a bit of dancing but mainly kept out of the way. The Duchess joked about the viral video saying "you have to be authentic". "It's also a really great reminder that, with all the noise or whatever people do, there's still a whole life. A real, authentic, fun life that's happening behind the scenes.' But for someone who has yearned for privacy showing herself off as she did was a distasteful surprise. After all she and Harry want the respect and the UK security protection given to working royals. Someone on her behalf has said she couldn't care less about the 'prudish' reaction of Britons to the video. 'Particularly in America and especially with young people, it (the video) has been a huge hit,' the source told the Daily Mail. But some royal aides have told me they found the vision disgusting. It shows that Meghan's image has become more chaotic. This time she didn't hide away when she was criticised. Instead she, Harry and the children went to Disneyland, California for their daughter's birthday – with the little ones' faces covered with heart symbols in a photo posted on Instagram. Certain standards are expected of royalty in what they do and say. But Meghan has always wanted to get the better of the Royal Family and she's done that with her cringeworthy behaviour.
