MANCHESTER UNITED have a long history of youth development that includes a remarkable record that goes back 88 years... and counting.
They have included at least one youth academy player in every single senior matchday squad since 1937.

Ever since then, they have boasted the likes of Duncan Edwards, George Best, Bobby Charlton, Paul Scholes, David Beckham and Ryan Giggs.
And that proud run continues, with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo getting their chance in the first team.
This season manager Ruben Amorim has used the likes of Harry Amass, a left-back with considerable potential, and Chido Obi, a goal-scoring striker they signed away from the Arsenal academy.
There is an expectation that next season, which will be the first full season for Amorim at the club, will be more successful with United expected to push up the table to at the very least compete for Champions League qualification.
In order to achieve this, however, they are going to have to recruit heavily to improve their squad in key positions.
But they also need to promote the best of their academy stars, to fill out the squad and offer real competition for places.
Only the very best will succeed at Old Trafford so the stakes are high.
We have identified three of the young players that Amorim and his coaching staff could turn to next season to supplement the squad.

Jack Fletcher -- 18, midfielder
The first player that we have picked out is a young midfielder who has a name that will be very familiar to fans of the club.
Jack Fletcher is the son of the former United and Scotland midfielder Darren Fletcher and along with his twin brother Tyler, he moved across to the United academy from rivals Manchester City.
Gary Neville reveals fear with Liverpool to become most successful English team ever
Now, Jack Fletcher finds himself on the fringes of the United first team and in a position where he can aim to break through next season.
As a midfield player Fletcher has a little bit of everything around his game.
Capable of playing deep or in more advanced midfield positions, he is very intelligent with his positioning and his reading of the game.
His technical level and receiving skills are very high and he showcases the ability to take possession in tight areas when opposition players are looking to press.
10
This is a typical position where Fletcher will receive the ball. He scans and checks his shoulder consistently allowing him to shift his position to receive with a cushion of space

Fletcher is a young player with the ability to bring composure and calm to the midfield unit for United.
If Amorim wants to continue with a two-man midfield then Fletcher is the type of player that could play beside a Manuel Ugarte in order to bring real balance.
While Ugarte could act as the ball winner, Fletcher could get on the ball and really dictate and progress the ball through the thirds.
10
The opposition gain position and United are caught out of shape but Fletcher reacts first to close down the space and manages to regain possession
Fletcher is a young midfielder who has the ability to both get on the ball and combine and play but also work to break opposition attacks up.
He would be expecting to get exposure at first-team football next season.
Sekou Kone -- 19, midfielder
The second player is one who United signed to feature in their upper age academy teams with a view to having him fast-tracked to first-team football.
Sekou Kone is a 19-year-old Malian youth international who moved to United in August 2024 from Guidars FC of Mali.
It is a mark of the belief that United have in the player that they were willing to sign the young midfielder for £1.2m.
Kone is a midfielder with a different profile to Jack Fletcher.
While Fletcher is a clear product of academy football in the way that he moves and receives the ball from a technical standpoint, Kone is perhaps the more naturally gifted player but one who is more unpredictable and chaotic in the positions that he takes and his actions in possession.

Kone is an energetic player who covers a lot of ground but his reading of the game and ability to play through all thirds really brings a lot of value to his team.
Ideally, he would be able to play as an 8 in a three-man midfield but his profile also works in a two-man midfield because he has the ability to cover large spaces both in the attacking and defensive phases of the game.
In possession of the ball, he can pass and break lines to move the ball forward and through the thirds but he can also drive forward with the ball at his feet while beating opposition players and effectively moving his team towards the final third.
10
Here Kone receives the ball in a tight space but his positive first touch moves the ball our of his feet and drives into space. From here, he burst forward and hit the post from outside the area
Kone is a midfielder with a rare profile.
He has the physical and technical level to be able to play at Premier League level and he can make a genuine impact for United next season.
What really makes him stand out as different to other prospects though is his capacity to receive the ball and break a game open by doing the unexpected.
Tyler Fredricson -- 20, defender
Tyler Fredricson is a young central defender who has come through the academy at United.
He also came into the team for last weekend's match against Wolves and played for the full 90 minutes.
Given that under Amorim we are likely to see United continue to play in a back three system, that means that there will be opportunities for young defenders to gain game time.
They already have Ayden Heaven, another young player signed from Arsenal, as a left-sided centre back in their system.
But it is clear that Fredricson has caught the eye of the first-team coaching staff and against Wolves, despite the result, he certainly looked as though he has the ability to play at that level.
Combative and committed against the ball in the defensive phase it is also notable that Fredricson has the ability to progress the ball and play forward passes, something that is missing around United's other central defenders.
10
Against Wolves, Fredricson was keen to take possession in tight areas but instead of playing a panicked long pass he was able to play short and through the press
10
Fredricson is naturally right-footed but in the match against Wolves, he showed his versatility to play from the left of the back three.
This versatility will likely lead him to get more exposure at the first-team level.
The fact that he can play comfortably as any of the three positions in the back three makes him valuable as a squad option.
His passing through lines was consistently impressive in the match against Wolves but he has built a reputation at youth level for being a dominant defensive player who is very strong in duels and in the challenge.
It remains to be seen whether he can translate this to senior level and in the Premier League but it is likely that he will get the chance.
10
Fredricson takes the ball on his weaker left foot on the left of the back three. He is being pressed aggressively but he has the composure to fire a progressive pass into the midfield
Going into next season, there is every chance that a player with the profile of Fredricson will get the chance to be around the first-team squad at United.
Conclusion
There is no doubt that Man United are a team that have consistently prioritised youth development and the integration of youth team players into the first team.
While the team does need a lot of work in terms of recruitment, they will also have room within their squad to develop these three outstanding young players.

‘Threats and blackmail don't work' – Sporting chief hits back at Man Utd target Gyokeres and reveals fee he won't accept

Man Utd legend has urged his old club NOT to sign the star RES IS HISTORY 'Threats and blackmail don't work' – Sporting chief hits back at Man Utd target Gyokeres and reveals fee he won't accept SPORTING'S president has furiously hit back at Manchester United target Victor Gyokeres saying: "Threats and blackmail don't work." The Sweden striker is considering going on strike to force through a dream move to United or Arsenal. 3 Sporting chief Frederico Varandas has hit back at Viktor Gyokeres Credit: Alamy 3 Gyokeres is said to be considering strike action to force an exit Credit: AFP Gyokeres, 27, is furious with Sporting for going back on their word over a transfer promise to him and plans not to play for the club again. He believes he had a gentleman's agreement to leave the Portuguese giants for £50million with a further £8million in add-ons but that claim has been rubbished by president Frederico Varandas. And the Sporting chief insists he will not be bullied into letting the ex-Coventry forward move to the Prem on the cheap this summer. Varandas said: 'Sporting will not accept blackmail and insults – you should know me better by now. READ MORE IN FOOTBALL MIC SWAP Carrick takes up new offer alongside Man Utd icon O'Shea just days after Boro axe 'One thing is certain, we will not accept £50m plus £8m. As of now, Sporting has not received any bids for Gyokeres. "He is a fantastic professional, to this day he has had zero offers. He has a three-year contract with Sporting.' Responding to claims they have changed their stance, Varandas gave his version of the meetings they had last summer. He says the only guarantee he gave to the forward was that he would not ask for the full £85m of his release clause. JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS He said: "It was agreed that Sporting would not demand the release clause at the end of the season, especially because he was going to be 27. "We knew about Viktor's dream of going to a club where he could fight for the Champions League and we have common sense. "We guaranteed that we would not demand £85m. Sporting has common sense, it keeps its word. "The president of Sporting said that the club would not demand the clause and that we would adjust the value to Viktor's performance. 'But he was one of the best players ever to step on the pitch in Portugal with 63 goals and ten assists. Now I see the agent is releasing information to the press.' United boss Ruben Amorim has made Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo his top priority after signing Matheus Cunha earlier in the window. 3 Ruben Amorim could look for a reunion with Gyokeres Credit: Getty But he worked with Gyokeres at Sporting and could yet firm up the interest if the Red Devils can shift some of their existing forwards this summer. United legend Rio Ferdinand is not convinced by the striker and said: "I don't think he's the guy. I've not watched him loads but I've watched him probably three times really, really closely. "And three times I've gone, 'He ain't getting that opportunity in the Prem'. "When I see him physically matched, what else is there? Is there enough - after he's physically matched - to get him a goal?' Arsenal remain in the frame for him too with new director of football Andrea Berta a big fan from his days at Atletico Madrid. The Gunners are working on a deal for RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko but are currently unwilling to meet the German club's asking price. Should that move reach a stalemate, they could go back for Gyokeres if they felt he gave better value for money and could make more of an instant impact. However Sporting are not willing to let their prized asset go without a fight. Join SUN CLUB for the Man Utd Files every Thursday plus in-depth coverage and exclusives from Old Trafford

Jadon Sancho at centre of three-way Premier League transfer battle with Man Utd misfit not part of Ruben Amorim's plans

The former Borussia Dortmund winger is back at Manchester United after Chelsea rejected the chance to make his move permanent. And SunSport understands Aston Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle are all monitoring developments. Villa are thought to be keen on a loan deal for the player, but United would prefer cash to free up funds for a rebuild. Newcastle and Tottenham both see Sancho as a strong option as they look to build squads that can compete in the League and the Champions League. READ MORE ON FOOTBALL FROZEN OUT Island nation 9 times larger than UK banned from World Cup as statement released Borussia Dortmund were also tracking Sancho, but they've now opted for Jobe Bellingham. Despite netting in the 4-1 Europa Conference League final win over Real Betis, Sancho couldn't seal a £25million switch to Chelsea. Chelsea had initially loaned Sancho from United and had agreed to buy him for £25million, unless they dropped below 14th or coughed up a £5m penalty clause. JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS After the Blues finished fourth and lifted the Conference League trophy, they opted to pay the £5m penalty. Now, Chelsea's eyes are set on a range of wingers, including Jamie Byroe-Gittens and Nico Williams of Borussia Dortmund and Athletic Bilbao, respectively. Jadon Sancho shares his Chelsea highlights reel as he says goodbye to fans ahead of Man Utd return 4 They are still linked with Sancho's team-mate Alejandro Garnacho, who looks to have been banished to the wilderness by Ruben Amorim in a similar fallout to the one Sancho had with Erik ten Hag. United have set a staggering £70m asking price on the Argentine winger. Garnacho is viewed as one of United's sellable assets this summer as he is considered homegrown, although he does have three years remaining on his contract. Chelsea today confirmed Sancho's return to Man Utd in a 92-word statement on the club website. It said: "Sancho, 25, joined on a season-long loan on August 31 2024 and went on to make a total of 41 appearances for the club. "The winger registered five goals during his time at Stamford Bridge, with his final strike coming in the Blues' UEFA Conference League Final victory against Real Betis on May 28. "Everyone at Chelsea would like to thank Jadon for his efforts and we wish him every success for the future."
