‘I just feel lonely all the time:' Young mother slowly coming out of a coma after crash
PLEASANT GROVE, Utah () — A young married couple from Pleasant Grove is experiencing the unimaginable after a car crash put 23-year-old Lissette Taylor in a coma.
The wreck took place on January 17. The young woman was in a coma for a full two weeks. Her husband, Jared Taylor, told ABC4 that while she is improving, she is only responsive some of the time.

'Last Thursday when she started to wake up a little bit she was able to nod and shake her head when I asked her some questions. I asked her if she knew who I was, and she nodded her head,' Jared Taylor told ABC4's Kade Garner. '[That was] the happiest I had felt since the accident.'
Jared said the wreck took place on January 17 and was captured on a dashcam. He added: 'You can see them slow down, get over, and then floor it straight into the back of their car, the tesla, and they were at a complete stop when they got hit.' Lissette was in the back seat of her brother's Tesla with her five-month-old son. Jared wasn't with them.
Jared's brother-in-law called him to let him know about the wreck. According to Jared, by the time he got there his wife had already been taken to the hospital. His son was still in the car. Jared's parents took the baby to the hospital. 'Thankfully,' Jared said, 'He was pretty much unharmed.'
When he got to the hospital, he learned just how bad the crash was for his wife. He said doctors told him she had bleeding on the brain and was unresponsive to everything, including pain. They planned to drill a hole to relieve some of the pressure from the bleeding. However, Jared said about 45 minutes later the surgeon returned to tell him that Lissette was moving a little on her own, so they decided not to drill the hole.

Jared told ABC4 that scans showed that except for the bleeding, everything was okay. Nonetheless, Lissette was in a coma. 'It was really bad,' he added. 'There was a lot of worry that she wasn't going to come out of it at all.'
Then a week passed. 'Things started to look a little better, stated Jared, 'She started to react to pain a little bit.'
Then another week passed. 'She started to wake up a little bit,' he explained. That gave him some hope. 'It's just been up or down from there. Some days she's doing alright, other days it's not good and there's no response.'
The two have been married for a little over a year. They met about two years ago on a dating app called Mutual. Jared told ABC4 that when he first met her she was different from any other girl he had ever met. '[She's] awkward, funny, a little bit of a nerd. She's basically happy all of the time.' Those attributes had him hooked. As someone who describes himself as shy, Lissette seemed to be the perfect ying to his yang, and that is why this situation is so difficult.
'I just feel lonely all the time,' Jared stated. 'I used to always talk to her every day about everything, and now there's just no one there to talk to.'
Over the last few weeks, Jared said it is hard to think about anything else. He tries to focus on work and be there for his son, but his mind drifts back to his best friend. He told ABC4 that sitting at the hospital with her, even though she's usually not responsive, brings him some comfort.
The big moments really help get him through. Jared's aunt works at the hospital where Lissette is being treated. One night she went down to check in on her niece-in-law. She called Jared because Lissette was responsive. That call turned out to be one of the most important in his life. He explained, 'She tried to mumble 'I love you.' That just makes me happy, feels good, adds a little hope.'
Jared said that doctors are optimistic Lissette will make a full recovery, they are just unsure how long it will take.

Notorious Royal India Restaurant Owners Charged With Wage Theft
Last week, the former owners of the Kirkland restaurant Royal India, Mohammad Rashid Bhatti and Aeisha Bhatti, were charged with 10 counts of felony wage theft by state prosecutors, who say the father and daughter duo failed to pay workers nearly $45,000 from 2021 to 2023. The pair pleaded not guilty at an arraignment, according to a release from the state Department of Labor and Industry (L&I). If you've heard of Royal India, it might be because it was in the Seattle Times last year when the paper investigated L&I's failure to collect stolen wages and used the restaurant as an example of a business frequently accused of stealing from workers. According to the Times story, Royal India's two locations in Lynnwood and Kirkland 'have been the subjects of at least 37 wage complaints from workers since 2018,' more than any other non-chain restaurant in Washington State. At the time, L&I 'has collected $42,051 from the Bhattis since 2018 out of $121,662 owed in wages, interest and penalties,' the Times reported. Some Royal India employees contacted a worker's rights group called the Seattle Solidarity Network, which organized a picket line outside the restaurant in 2023 and even created a website devoted to documenting the restaurant's supposed misdeeds, including an alleged rat infestation that spread to other tenants at the strip mall and unpaid taxes. The Times reported that the King and Snohomish county health departments cited both locations for code violations, including 'black mold in the ice machine.' The Kirkland location closed in 2024 after city inspectors shut it down for having an inadequate fire suppression system in its kitchen hood. The Lynnwood location closed before reopening under new ownership with the name Dastoor. In the case of the investigation that led to felony charges, L&I went through Royal India's finances and concluded 'they had the ability to pay their employees but didn't,' according to the agency press release, which continued: 'During the investigation, it was discovered that some complainants were also tasked with doing work for Aeisha Bhatti's other business, Marigold Design House. Additional instances of alleged wage theft were discovered during the investigation, including a nanny hired by Aeisha Bhatti who was allegedly not paid for her work.' Many wage theft cases are settled in civil lawsuits or addressed in the normal L&I process. Felony wage theft cases are 'relatively rare,' an L&I spokesperson told the Times, but the agency can refer cases to the state AG if it finds 'what appears to be a clear intent to withhold wages from workers.' Man kills roommate with AR-15 style gun after ‘cool down' from fight, PA cops say
Two roommates got into a fight about their living arrangements when things turned physical, then deadly, Pennsylvania police said. The fight started the night of June 6 when Timothy Pirraglia got home from work, Sandy Township police said. He knocked Christopher Euard, his roommate of one year, to the ground and pushed him into the corner, according to a probable cause affidavit filed June 7. The two went into their separate bedrooms, Euard told police. During the 'cool down' period, Pirraglia decided he wanted to leave the home. With a backpack on, Pirraglia left his room to leave but was confronted by Euard. Police said he was holding an AR-15 style firearm, the affidavit said. A third roommate, who was also trying to leave, overheard the two arguing in the hallway when Pirraglia yelled, 'Do it. You're not going to do it,' the affidavit said. Euard fired one shot, which fatally struck the man in the chest, according to the affidavit. With Pirraglia dead in the hallway, Euard turned to his other roommate. 'He's down,' Euard said, according to court documents. 'What do you mean he's down?' the third roommate replied. 'You know what happened,' Euard said back. 'I just want to leave. I don't want any part of this, why would you put me in this situation? I don't know what to do, what do I do?' the roommate said, then left the residence. Euard said he 'passed out,' then called police the next morning at about 3 a.m., the affidavit said. Euard was charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person, according to court records. Sandy Township is about a 100-mile drive northwest from Pittsburgh.
