Bruce Springsteen calls Donald Trump 'corrupt, incompetent and treasonous' at UK concert
Bruce Springsteen isn't pulling any punches in 'dangerous times.'
The Boss opened the first show of the E Steet Band's European tour on Wednesday, May 14, at the Co-op Live in Manchester, U.K., with a call to raise voices against authoritarianism. Springsteen's fiery salvo was a spirited takedown of President Donald Trump.
'The mighty E Street Band is here tonight to call upon the righteous power of art, of music, of rock n' roll in dangerous times,' said Springsteen before the night's first song, 'The Land of Hope and Dreams,' according to live streams. 'In my home, the America I love, the America I've written about that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration. Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American spirit to rise with us, raise your voices against authoritarianism and let freedom ring. This is 'Land of Hope and Dreams.' '
Later, Springsteen dedicated the live debut of 'Rainmaker,' from 2020's 'Letter to You,' to 'Our dear leader.' The track tells a story of a people in a drought with 'parched crops' who are desperate for relief.
'Rainmaker take everything you have, sometimes folks need to bеlieve in something so bad, so bad, so bad,' sang Springsteen.
The show featured a new setlist compared to the concerts of 2024 and 2023, including 'Death to My Hometown,' 'Murder Incorporated,' 'House of Thousand Guitars' and 'Born in the U.S.A.'
A cover of Bob Dylan's 'Chimes of Freedom' closed the show.
'Take this home with you,' Springsteen said.
Howard Bloom of Ottawa was at the show.
'As a Canadian I often wonder if the world understands how they see America today, not just your President but as a direct result your country,' said Bloom via email prior to the show. 'That may not be fair, but the world is very upset (as I know are many Americans).'
The 16-date tour is the final leg of the critically acclaimed E Street tour that began Feb. 1, 2023, at the Amalie Arena in Tampa. Springsteen dubbed the run 'The Land of Hope and Dreams Tour,' and suggested that a set list, and thematic, change-up was in the works.
Springsteen had refrained from speaking about political issues from the stage of E Street Band shows for the majority of his career.
'One of the artists' jobs to make sense of existence and to make sense of the current times that you live in, and to contextualize those times,' said Springsteen previously to Variety. 'Every artist does it in a different way. So I've got that on my mind, and I'm sure it'll be reflected in our next leg of the tour.'
The next show is Saturday, May 17, back at the Co-op Live in Manchester.

Mary Fowler dream shattered as Panthers handed huge news about Nathan Cleary
Mary Fowler's dream about starting a big family has been dealt a blow, with reports her boyfriend Nathan Cleary has no interest in quitting the NRL to move overseas. The Penrith Panthers star has consistently been linked with a move to play in Europe to be closer to the Matildas fan favourite, who is based in England and plays for Manchester City. Rumours have been rife for months that Cleary might switch to the English Super League in the near future to be closer to Fowler. And Wallabies legend Tim Horan suggested Cleary was considering a switch to rugby union after hearing whispers that the four-time premiership winner was "quite keen" to leave the NRL for the 15-man game. Another former Wallaby, Morgan Turinui, appeared to add credence to the story by insisting "there is interest on both sides". But veteran sports journalist Andrew Webster revealed on his 'Off the Record' Podcast with Phil 'Buzz' Rothfield, that Cleary's father and coach Ivan, plus manager George Mimis, both dismissed the reports as 'bulls**t'. "I spoke to George Mimis (Cleary's manager) and Ivan Cleary and Ivan told me he'd spoken to Nathan and they both said it's absolute bulls**t," Webster declared. "Nathan had said to Ivan 'there's nothing in it' and Ivan said to me he's been getting text messages and calls about this sort of stuff around Nathan leaving for about six months. "I spoke to Mimis and he says he hasn't had a discussion with any rugby union club, anywhere in the world." Rothfield said he also found the speculation around Cleary's future ridiculous, amid warnings about interest from overseas rugby clubs and suggestions Fowler wanted Cleary to be closer to her in England. "People that are saying that clearly have no idea what Nathan Cleary is about," Webster continued. "They clearly don't understand what a competitor he is and how professional he is. He's not about to go and cash a cheque in French rugby, which is basically a part-time comp in comparison to rugby league. "Everyone thinks that he's going to move over and be closer to Mary Fowler so he's been linked to the English Super League, to Perth, now to French rugby or European rugby. It's all bulls**t. That said though, if I'm (Rugby Australia CEO) Phil Waugh I'm having a crack to get him. He'd be the perfect convert." RELATED: Rival NRL club responds as Craig Bellamy tipped for shock switch Knights urged to backflip on brutal call to part ways Origin hero Door ajar for Reece Walsh as Ponga on cusp of State of Origin ban The latest development around Cleary would appear to put Fowler's dreams of starting a family firmly on the backburner. Fowler and Cleary both have three siblings each and speaking on the 'Keegan and Company' podcast with former NRL player Keegan Hipgrave this week, the Matildas star said she has a burning desire to start "a big family" of her own one day. 'The only dream I have at the moment is to be a mum and have heaps of kids and be in a space where they can play outside a lot," she said. "We can do the gardening and feed the animals together and to be able to run wild in the place; be in the mud. If I had the set-up for that, it would be a dream. 'I would love to have two or three kids of my own and then adopt. I don't know how many I would adopt, it's a long process. But in an ideal world I would like to adopt siblings. I would bring all of them into the home. 'The dream would definitely have a lot of outdoor space because I would love to have lots of animals... I really want to have a whole range of animals. It's very random and I'm trying to convince Nath that it would be a good idea. I really want to get a cow, some little goats, maybe a pig, some geese and I also really want to get a Great Dane.'

Truly pioneering Southampton cruise ship celebrates 10th anniversary
It's hard to believe it's been a decade since Anthem of the Seas first graced the waters, a true titan of the seas that quickly became synonymous with groundbreaking innovation and unforgettable voyages. Calling Southampton her cherished home, this second jewel of Royal Caribbean International's esteemed Quantum Class has continually pushed the boundaries of what a cruise experience can be. Codenamed "Project Sunshine," Royal Caribbean's ambitious vision for a new class of ships started to take shape in February 2011 with an order placed with Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The excitement with the subsequent order for a second ship, and finally, in January 2013, the world learned the official names: Quantum of the Seas and her sister, Anthem of the Seas. The keel of Anthem was laid on a crisp November day in 2013, marking the physical commencement of what would become a truly extraordinary vessel. A momentous day arrived on April 10, 2015, when Anthem of the Seas was officially delivered to Royal Caribbean. Just five days later, she sailed into her first homeport of Southampton, ready to embark on her maiden European summer season. The city embraced her with open arms, and it was in Southampton that a truly unique christening ceremony unfolded on April 20, 2015. Read more: Photos show night club that later became a strip club and then Junk Robbers threatened to set pub landlord and wife alight in terrifying ordeal Forgotten Southampton star who shunned the club in search of fame Breaking from tradition, Royal Caribbean sought a godmother who embodied grace, beauty, social consciousness, and an adventurous spirit, ultimately selecting Emma Wilby, a British travel agent and military wife known for her singing prowess in the Military Wives Choir. The christening itself was a spectacle befitting a ship of Anthem's stature. Held in the vessel's Royal Theatre before 1,300 distinguished guests, the ceremony was a vibrant tapestry of tradition and modern flair. It began with a captivating procession, followed by stirring performances from the Reading Scottish Pipe Band and the enchanting Welsh boys' choir, Only Boys Aloud. The highlight, however, was Emma Wilby's powerful rendition of Katy Perry's "Firework," culminating in her pressing a button that sent a bottle of Perrier-Jouët champagne soaring down a zipline from the ship's iconic North Star gondola, smashing against a wall bearing the ship's name. From her very inception, Anthem of the Seas was designed to be a pioneer. Boasting 16 passenger-accessible decks and an impressive 2090 passenger cabins, her facilities were, and still are, revolutionary. Her towering rock-climbing wall offered panoramic views, while the RipCord by iFLY skydiving simulator provided an exhilarating taste of flight. Huge crowds descended on Southampton park for major youth festival One of its most iconic features is the "North Star," a jewel-shaped glass capsule that rises over 300 feet above sea level, offering stunning panoramic views, which have provided unique perspectives of Southampton and the Solent many times. She also boasts a bar where robots mix cocktails. Passengers order their drinks via tablets, selecting from a menu of classic cocktails or getting creative with their own designs or concoctions from a wide selection of spirits and mixers. Robotic arms get to work. They can select ingredients from the inverted bottles above them, muddle, stir, shake, and strain drinks with impressive precision. Beyond these adrenaline-pumping attractions, Anthem offers an array of swimming pools, a tranquil solarium, a state-of-the-art Spa and Fitness Centre, a grand theatre for world-class entertainment, and a casino. Over her ten years of service, Anthem of the Seas has navigated both serene waters and challenging conditions. While the vast majority of her voyages have been seamless, she has encountered a few notable incidents that have only highlighted the robust design and safety protocols in place. In February 2016, she faced extreme wind and sea conditions off Cape Hatteras, North Carolina. Despite the severity of the storm, which caused damage and minor injuries, the ship and crew admirably managed the situation, prioritising passenger safety. More recently, in February 2020, Anthem of the Seas was part of a global conversation when a coronavirus-related quarantine was implemented as a precautionary measure. Swift action by Royal Caribbean, in collaboration with health authorities, ensured the safety and well-being of all onboard. The situation was quickly resolved, with guests testing negative and the ship cleared to sail. As Anthem of the Seas celebrates her tenth anniversary, her legacy as a trailblazer is firmly cemented. She continues to be a beloved home away from home for countless travellers, embarking on incredible journeys from Southampton among other places.

Shuttered auction house faces million-dollar comic book lawsuit
CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Cranston auction house has been tied up in a lawsuit for years after a Canadian comic book collector says thousands of his valuable collectibles seemingly disappeared without fair compensation. In 2020, Bernie Arsenault filed a lawsuit in federal court that names Kevin Bruneau, Travis Landry and Ashle Tortolani from Bruneau & Co. Auctioneers as defendants. Arsenault says he hired the auction house to sell 42,400 of his comic books in 2018, after Landry's multiple appearances on 'Antiques Roadshow' as an expert appraiser convinced him of Bruneau & Co.'s prominent reputation. According to Arsenault, Bruneau told him it would take three or four years to sell the entire collection. 'He said, 'You know, this would be like an annuity,'' explained Arsenault. He told Target 12 he was planning on using the money for his retirement. The lawsuit alleges Arsenault entered into a consignment contract with the company under which they would sell his comic books and keep 25% of the profit, while the remaining money after fees and costs would go back to Arsenault. For a while, he said, 'Everything seemed to be good.' Court documents show that Arsenault received more than $10,000 in checks from the auction house between 2018 and 2020. But the collector became suspicious when some of the checks didn't have any information about which specific comic books were sold and for what price. At first, he sent a letter to Bruneau & Co. asking the company to terminate their contract and send the remaining comic books back to him. When that didn't work out, he decided to file the lawsuit. 'At first it was the monetary, but at this stage of the game, it's now just about justice,' he said. Bruneau's attorney, Stephen Levesque, disputes the allegations made against his client and says Bruneau followed the terms of the agreement. Levesque says the company sold some of the books at a handful of auctions and sent the remaining books back to Arsenault. Levesque also claims that the collection was not worth $1 million as Arsenault claims, valuing it instead around $20,000. The lawsuit was scheduled to go to trial this year, but Bruneau filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in February, which put the trial on hold. Target 12 found more than 50 creditors listed on the filing, which claims Bruneau owes more than $700,000 — mainly to people who consigned with him. READ THE STORY: Local auctioneer files for bankruptcy, still owes consignors around $700K In a recent interview, Sheldon Stowe said he hired the auction company to sell 20 of his father's antique guns, but was never paid. 'It's a sad thing. I know that I didn't lose as much as other people,' Stowe said. Linda Bowers also relied on the auction house to sell her father's antique guns last summer and didn't receive the $3,200 payment that she was owed. 'It's time-consuming and it's frustrating,' she said. Target 12 reached out to Landry and Tortolani for a comment, but hasn't heard back. The bankruptcy case is still ongoing, but those typically take months. Once Bruneau & Co.'s bankruptcy is finalized, Arsenault's case will likely go to trial.
