Illegal colonies, kiosks set up for plot sales & boundary walls razed in Gurgaon

Time of India4 days ago
Gurgaon: DTCP has conducted a demolition and sealing drive, targeting unauthorised structures in the urban areas across the city.
Four unauthorised colonies spread over 9.5 acres, 18 boundary walls, an under-construction structure, two Pota cabins used for selling plots and an entire CC road network laid illegally were razed in the drive conducted on Friday.
Even in the licensed colony—Celebrity Homes—in Palam Vihar, an illegally constructed departmental store—Fresh Mart—in the stilt area was sealed. A day earlier, officials demolished a 7-acre illegal colony in Carterpuri with 12 DPCs, five boundary walls, and multiple structures/commercial structures were brought down.

On August 6, two illegal colonies in Mubarikpur (1 acre) and Iqbalpur (2 acres) were also cleared.
The drives were carried out with police support under Palam Vihar and Farrukhnagar jurisdictions, signalling strict action against unauthorised structures.
Meanwhile, DTCP officials highlighted a growing trend of RWAs in the city misusing their authority to carry out illegal constructions in common areas of group housing societies. These unauthorised structures are often used for personal, religious, or social purposes, violating the Haryana Apartment Ownership Act and building bye-laws.
"This office has been receiving multiple complaints from various societies where RWA boards are actively involved in illegal constructions," a senior official said.
"Such actions lead to legal violations, resident disputes, and misuse of community property."
The issue has now been escalated to the deputy commissioner's task force for further deliberation. Authorities are also considering the involvement of the district societies group to implement stricter oversight.
A key proposal under discussion is the appointment of administrators in RWAs repeatedly found violating norms. "If RWAs continue to misuse their powers and encourage encroachments, we may have no option but to regulate their functioning through appointed administrators," the official warned.

Shifted for ‘arguing' with group, SI reinstated after probe finds he's attacked

Agra: A sub-inspector who was transferred to police lines after an altercation with a group of men last Saturday was reinstated to his post at Dadon police station in Aligarh after it was found that he was the victim, not the aggressor, police said on Tuesday. A case has been registered against six individuals – including Sihani Faridpur village pradhan Devendra Yadav – for assaulting SI Rajveer Singh with sticks and rods, and tearing his uniform while he was on duty at Alampur crossroads during Rakshabandhan on Aug 9. CCTV footage of the incident has been widely circulated online. Police said the clash occurred over a challan issued to one of Yadav's associates during a vehicle-checking drive earlier. Before an FIR was even filed against Yadav, Singh was transferred to the police lines. Questions were raised over his shifting, prompting the police authorities to clarify that the transfer was a "clerical error". The order was later revoked. DSP (Chharra) Dhananjay said, "Six people, including the pradhan, were booked under relevant sections, including BNS 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to a public servant to deter them from performing their duty) on Aug 9 for assault and unruly behaviour. Efforts are underway to nab the accused. SI Singh, who was shifted due to a clerical error, has been reinstated." Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). KENDRAPARA: A 15-year-old girl in Odisha's Kendrapara district was gang-raped by five miscreants, including her own uncle, on Saturday night. Police detained all five accused on Tuesday after the incident was reported. According to the police, the victim, a native of a village under Rajnagar police station, lodged an FIR against all five accused, including her 30-year-old uncle. She said that on Saturday evening, which was Raksha Bandhan day, she had gone with her uncle on a motorbike to the nearby market at Ouapada for some purchases. However, on the way, the accused uncle took her by force to a secluded field and, after physically overpowering her, raped her. The victim further stated that four miscreants, who were consuming alcohol near the spot, rushed to the scene after hearing her screams. Instead of helping her, 'all the four drunk persons gang-raped her several times, taking turns after attacking her uncle'.
