Nuggets Could Acquire Dalton Knecht In Three-Team Deal With Lakers

The Denver Nuggets were eliminated in the Conference Semifinals in seven games for the second straight year, losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder this time around. The Nuggets are expected to make moves this offseason, and Bleacher Report's Greg Swartz has listed Los Angeles Lakers' Dalton Knecht as one of their dream targets.

"Knecht is the perfect catch-and-shoot option to put on the court next to Jokic, with the Nuggets possibly jumping in as a third team if the Lakers attempt to trade for a new starting center."
The Nuggets certainly could do with having a shooter like Knecht. The 24-year-old averaged 9.1 points, 2.8 rebounds, 0.8 steals, and 0.3 blocks per game as a rookie while shooting 37.6% from beyond the arc.
Now, that percentage does seem underwhelming, but it was really dragged down by one awful stretch. Knecht shot 15.6% from beyond the arc in December 2024, as he hit the rookie wall. He rebounded well from that and was drilling shots at an excellent clip at the end of the regular season, shooting 42.0% in March and 45.5% in April.
Despite Knecht finding his shooting stroke, head coach JJ Redick didn't have him in the rotation in the playoffs. It was clear when the Lakers included him in the Mark Williams trade, which later got rescinded, that they didn't mind parting with him, and his role in the playoffs only made that all the more apparent.

Knecht's shooting didn't outweigh his struggles on defense for the Lakers, and you'd expect him to be elsewhere at the start of next season. His being included in a trade that lands them a center is the most likely outcome, and the Nuggets might try to get involved in that deal.
A big reason the Nuggets lost to the Thunder was their inability to score from beyond the arc. They shot 31.4% from three in the series, with Aaron Gordon (44.1%) being their only reliable shooter.
That allowed the Thunder to key in on Nikola Jokic, as most of his teammates failed to make them pay for being left open. Knecht would help in that regard.
The big question, though, would be whether the Lakers want to help a contender in the West. They don't necessarily have to include a third team in a deal to land a center and could just decide against doing the Nuggets a favor.

So, who would they target then? Well, Swartz has Phoenix Suns' Royce O'Neal and Sacramento Kings' Keon Ellis as two other options.
O'Neal averaged 9.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game for the Suns in 2024-25 while shooting 40.6% from beyond the arc. Ellis, meanwhile, averaged 8.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 0.8 blocks per game for the Kings while shooting 43.3% from three.
O'Neal and Ellis are pretty good defenders, too, unlike Knecht. Defense was also a bit of a problem for the Nuggets this season, and so, these two would help address two of their concerns.
It will be interesting to see what moves they end up making this summer, as the Nuggets are reportedly hesitant to break up their championship core. Jokic was obviously never going to be on the table, but Gordon, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., and Christian Braun aren't either.

Lakers Eyeing Perfect Match at Center Position: Report

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Heading into the 2025 NBA offseason, the Los Angeles Lakers have a lot of work to do. They have Luka Doncic and LeBron James leading the way, but they need to add more help for their two superstar players. During the NBA Playoffs against the Minnesota Timberwolves, two clear needs became obvious. The Lakers will need to add more defense, and they badly need to upgrade the center position. However, making those additions might prove to be difficult. Los Angeles doesn't have a lot of financial wiggle room and Rob Pelinka will have to get creative if he wants to keep Austin Reaves around long-term. Photo byWith that being said, the Lakers have now been connected to an intriguing name in NBA free agency who could be a perfect fit for the team. Read more: Lakers' LeBron James Teases Retirement in Cryptic Ad According to a report from NBA insider Jake Fischer, Los Angeles could look to pursue Milwaukee Bucks' impending free agent center Brook Lopez. "The Lakers have long been fans of Lopez, sources say. That doesn't guarantee they will pursue him again. But the Lakers are indeed expected to be a player in the center market this summer," Fischer wrote. Lopez may be an aging center, but he can still defend the rim and rebound well. He can also space the floor and knock down the three-point shot. Those are all very important things that the Lakers badly need in their center. During the 2024-25 NBA season with the Bucks, Lopez played in 80 games. He averaged 13 points per game to go along with five rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 1.8 assists, while shooting 50.9 percent from the floor and 37.3 percent from three-point distance. At 37 years old, Los Angeles would likely be able to land Lopez on a team-friendly deal. That would check all of the boxes the Lakers have in the need department. Read more: New Blockbuster Trade Idea Has 76ers Land Kevin Durant More than likely, there will be other teams with interest in signing Lopez as well. He's still a quality big man at this stage of his career. Los Angeles does have the pull of being a big market and one of the most stories franchises in the NBA. That draw would be tough for a player like Lopez to turn down, especially with the added bonus of playing alongside Doncic and James. While it's not a guarantee that the Lakers will pursue Lopez, he seems to be a name worth keeping a very close eye on. Lakers Fans Upset After $39 Million NBA News on Saturday

Lakers Fans Upset After $39 Million NBA News on Saturday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Lakers entered the NBA offseason knowing their biggest priority is adding a dependable big man for next season. Because they lacked precisely that during the 2025 NBA Playoffs, the Minnesota Timberwolves relentlessly exploited it. Advertisement Multiple big men were slated for free agency, but one who caught the fanbase's eye was Houston Rockets center Steven Adams. In his return after a year-long absence, Adams had himself a bit of a mini-renaissance in his first healthy season with the Rockets. Adams' regular season numbers won't jump off the page, but averaging 5.6 rebounds in only 13.7 minutes a game made him quite the presence low, and that only continued in the playoffs. In 22.1 minutes per game, Adams averaged 6.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks while proving to be a problem for the Golden State Warriors. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green (23) and Houston Rockets center Steven Adams (12)© Cary Edmondson-Imagn Images Even though the Rockets were eliminated by the Warriors anyway, Adams certainly proved that the Lakers would be right to pursue him when they got the chance, but unfortunately for them, it wasn't meant to be. Advertisement ESPN's Shams Charania reported that Adams and the Rockets have agreed to a three-year contract extension worth $39 million, which negates the possibility of the Lakers signing him in free agency. Lakers fans were none too pleased about this, as many believed Adams should have joined the team. "Nooooo," one wrote in response to Charania. "Supposed to be a Laker 💔," one added "HES WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A LAKER," said another "SHOULD'VE BEEN A LAKER," stated one "Lakers sold," added one. With Adams off the board, the Lakers could try other veterans who will be on the free agent market, like Clint Capela or Al Horford.
