Madras High Court refuses interim ban on use of Ilaiyaraaja's Sivarathiri song in 'Mrs & Mr' film
Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, while hearing the civil suits and applications filed by Ilaiyaraaja against the usage of his musical work without authorisation, said, 'At this juncture, I am not granting an interim injunction.'
The judge ordered notice to Vanitha Film Productions, which has produced Mrs & Mr, and directed it to file the counter-affidavit within a week before adjourning the hearing accordingly.
Observing that normally the copyright of a cinematographic film, including the musical work, would be with the producer of the movie, the judge said all the issues relating to the rights have to be examined before deciding on the prayers of Ilaiyaraaja.

SC defers hearing of music composer Ilaiyaraaja's plea to July 18
The Supreme Court on Monday deferred to July 18 the hearing on a plea of legendary music composer Ilaiyaraaja seeking to transfer a copyright dispute involving over 500 of his musical compositions from the Bombay High Court to the Madras High Court. The plea was listed on Monday before a bench comprising Justices K Vinod Chandran and NV Anjaria. The legal case started from a lawsuit initiated by Sony Music Entertainment India in 2022 before the Bombay High Court. Sony has sought an injunction to restrain Ilaiyaraaja Music N Management Pvt Ltd (IMMPL) from using 536 musical works.
