Crypto.com Arena, Peacock Theater and AEG Offices at L.A. LIVE Achieve Prestigious WELL Health-Safety Rating

February 12, 2025 /3BL/ - AEG, the owner and operator of L.A. LIVE, and the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), the global authority for advancing health in buildings, organizations and communities, announced today that Crypto.com Arena, home to Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings, and Los Angeles Sparks, the Peacock Theater and the AEG offices at L.A. LIVE earned major WELL achievements.
'Being awarded the WELL Health-Safety Rating for a second consecutive year at Crypto.com Arena, and extending that to Peacock Theater and the AEG offices at L.A. LIVE, further demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that L.A. LIVE strives to be not only one of the safest sports and entertainment destination in the world, but one that continues to promote the health and well-being of our guests and employees,' said Lee Zeidman, President of Crypto.com Arena, Peacock Theater and L.A. LIVE.
To achieve the WELL Health-Safety Rating for the facilities at the complex, AEG met rigorous requirements related to its operational policies, maintenance protocols and emergency plans. The WELL Health-Safety Rating includes more than 20 features designed to help organizations keep spaces clean against spreadable diseases; provide essential health benefits and services; communicate health and safety efforts; ensure they have adequate emergency preparations and programs; and assess the facility's air and water quality.
The rating was awarded following the successful completion of a third-party documentation review to confirm that the facilities met the feature-specific requirements for supporting the long-term health and safety needs of everyone who is working at or visiting the venue.
'Crypto.com Arena and Peacock theater are iconic destinations that bring people together to celebrate sports, entertainment and community,' said Rachel Hodgdon, IWBI CEO. 'By achieving the WELL Health-Safety Rating, owner and operator AEG has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to prioritizing the health, safety and well-being of all who work or gather at L.A. LIVE. Congratulations to AEG for setting a high bar for how venues can lead with health.'
The WELL Health-Safety Rating is designed to empower owners and operators across large and small businesses alike to take the necessary steps to prioritize the health and safety of their staff, visitors and other stakeholders. Informed by the WELL Building Standard and a wide range of building and health scientists, practitioners, representatives from the business community and other experts, the WELL Health-Safety Rating is a roadmap for driving resilience across both business policies and operational plans. The WELL Health-Safety seal communicates a sense of confidence that a venue is maintaining the most effective and up-to-date practices for safety and wellness.
'The Green Sports Alliance congratulates AEG for receiving the WELL Health-Safety Rating for Peacock Theater and AEG offices at the L.A. Live campus, in addition to maintaining this designation at the Crypto.com Arena,' said Roger McClendon, Executive Director of the Green Sports Alliance. 'This achievement demonstrates AEG's continued commitment to prioritizing the health and safety of everyone at its venues and its position as a leader in sustainability in the sports and entertainment sector. AEG sets a positive example for the industry globally by creating safe and healthy environments for employees, spectators, athletes, and performers. AIM raises $50M to retrofit bulldozers and excavators to operate autonomously

(Photo via AIM) AIM Intelligent Machines (AIM), a Seattle-area startup that retrofits heavy earthmoving machinery to operate autonomously, raised $50 million in new funding, the company announced Tuesday. Investors include Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst, Human Capital, Ironspring Ventures, Mantis, DCVC, and Elad Gil, among others. AIM's technology platform accommodates heavy equipment such as bulldozers and excavators, regardless of make, model, size or age. The intent is to improve safety and productivity in extreme working conditions, such as mining. Semafor reported that AIM attaches the same sensors that power many self-driving cars to machinery to build a real-time, three-dimensional map of the equipment's surroundings. An edge compute system then takes over the controls to dig, haul, plow, fill, and level the ground without a human in the driver's seat. One person can remotely manage an entire site of working vehicles. The Bellevue, Wash.-based startup, which employs about 40 people, was founded in 2021 and built by engineers with experience at Waymo, SpaceX, Google, Stripe, Tesla and Apple. 'Everything is either mined or grown, and efficient earthmoving is required for both,' CEO Adam Sadilek said in a statement. 'Since the introduction of hydraulic machines like excavators in the 1800s, mining and construction have seen little of the automation that's transformed other industries. These are still among the most dangerous jobs in the world, and outcomes aren't getting better fast enough. AIM is changing that.' Driving by labor shortages and demand for efficiency, the autonomous construction equipment market is expected to grow from $4.43 billion in 2024 to $9.86 billion by 2030. Seattle startup Carbon Robotics recently revealed its latest product, the Carbon AutoTractor, an AI-powered, autonomous platform designed to fit on and control existing equipment for farming.

AEG Hosts HBCU Interns at L.A. LIVE During HBCU in LA Summit Week

As part of the Entertainment Industry College Outreach Program's (EICOP) HBCU in LA Summit Week, AEG, the leading sports and live entertainment company, hosted more than 40 interns from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) at its L.A. LIVE campus on May 30, 2025. The event brought industry talent and executives from AEG and across the entertainment sector together and offered students a chance to participate in panel discussions, mentoring sessions and learn first-hand about jobs in the sports and live event industry. The day kicked off with a behind-the-scenes tour of Arena, the L.A. LIVE campus and the GRAMMY Museum. The students then had a chance to speak one-on- one with industry professionals over lunch, including executives from various AEG business units such as Goldenvoice, AEG Presents, AXS, and Arena. The networking lunch was organized by AEG's employee network group Black Equity@AEG. Following lunch, AEG President and CEO, Dan Beckerman spoke to the students about today's increasingly complex workforce needs, and why developing early talent from a variety of institutions is essential for operational and strategic success. Students also participated in a fireside chat moderated by Stacy Milner, EICOP Founder and CEO, and Debra Lee, Chairman and CEO of BET, at Arena's Lexus Club. During the conversation, Lee shared her perspective on leadership, breaking barriers, and shaping the future of media. 'Hosting the HBCU LA event is about giving students exposure and access—two key components that can make all the difference in their careers,' said April Barfield, Sr. Manager – University Relations at AEG. 'It's not only important that these talented students learn about the live event industry but that our workforce also reflects the communities we serve.' The Entertainment Industry College Outreach Program is a non-profit educational arts workforce development organization, dedicated to educating, training, and recruiting the best and brightest student leaders from our nation's Historically Black Colleges, Universities and other Minority Serving Institutions for careers across all aspects of the entertainment, music, sports, gaming and tech industries. This bike helmet inflates when you want to wear it—and can fold into your backpack if you don't

A decade ago, as bike commuting surged in London, three U.K.-based designers started thinking about how to improve safety. What if a helmet could fold flat when it wasn't in use so a cyclist could easily carry it around? 'We knew it was on the edge of impossibility,' says Colin Herperger, an architectural designer who led the project. 'But we had a suspicion that it could exist.' After years of R&D, their new design, the inflatable Ventete aH-1, hit the market in the U.K. last year and sold out within hours. Later this year, it's expected to roll out in the U.S. The helmet, which retails for £350 (about $450), folds down to a tenth of its size to slide into a backpack. When you're ready to jump on a bike, a small USB-C pump attaches to a valve and fills the helmet with air. (Any tire pump can also do the job.) Within 30 seconds, it expands, accordion-style, and the ballistic fabric becomes rigid and strong. In a safety study at Imperial College London, the design outperformed 30 conventional competitors in tests of linear impact absorption. As the designers expected, the development was challenging. The team initially experimented with 3D printing, then pivoted to fabric, partnering with other companies to create custom materials that could meet their complex performance requirements. Because nothing like this had been produced before, the process also involved innovative manufacturing techniques, such as creating new tools for high-frequency welding. The startup went through more than 100 iterations before getting to the design that came to market; the company now holds 26 patents. The final helmet has other advantages beyond its portability and strength. Unlike a foam helmet, it doesn't hold in heat, so it's more comfortable to wear. And while foam helmets become less effective if they're dropped, the Ventete helmet's pressurized air makes the new version more resilient. It arguably also looks better than a typical helmet—making it more likely that riders will actually want to wear it.
