LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida nurse may lose her eyesight after a patient brutally attacked her at Palms West Hospital, breaking nearly every bone in her face, according to an arrest affidavit.
Palm Beach County deputies responded to the incident in Loxahatchee on Tuesday around 1:20 p.m. after the patient, 33-year-old Stephen Scantlebury, committed 'aggravated battery against a nurse' in a third-floor patient room.

According to the affidavit, the patient, who was at the hospital under Florida's Baker Act, jumped onto his bed and then jumped onto the nurse.
One witness in the room ran out and called for help, while a second witness yelled at Scantlebury to stop as he drilled his fists into the patient's face. The affidavit said the suspect then stopped attacking the nurse and ran out of the hospital and into traffic on Southern Boulevard, where he was taken into custody.
The nurse, whose identity is unknown, was taken to St. Mary's Hospital with critical injuries. The report detailed that 'essentially every bone' in the nurse's face was broken and that she is likely to 'lose the use of both eyes.'
HCA Florida Healthcare released a statement, obtained by NBC affiliate WPTV, saying the following:
'Our primary concern is with our beloved colleague and we are praying for her recovery. We are also providing support to our hospital staff who are understandably shaken by this incident. The attack on our nursing colleague happened within a matter of seconds and was witnessed by multiple people who came to assist. We are grateful to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office who acted to detain the suspect and we are assisting law enforcement in their investigation.'
Scantlebury was arrested and is undergoing medical clearance. The sheriff's office said he is facing charges of second-degree attempted murder.

Nearly 80 Afghans, including children dead after bus crash via Iran

Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Nearly 80 Afghan nationals, including more than a dozen children, died in a fiery bus crash on its way out of Iran to Afghanistan in Iran's ongoing push to rid millions of foreigners. The Kabul-bound bus crashed late Tuesday night during a long ride on treacherous Afghani terrain after colliding with another vehicle and a motorbike near the Iranian border in the western Afghan province of Herat. According to officials, 78 people died that included 17 children. "The car was carrying fuel and it caught fire after a head-on collision with the bus, fully loaded with passengers," according to Ahmadullah Muttaqi, a government communications official in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, told NBC and The New York Times. Muttaqi added the bus also caught fire and "the majority of people on the bus died of burn injuries." On Wednesday, the bodies were transferred to Afghanistan's capital Kabul. Video footage by Afghan news outlet Etilaatroz depicted the large bus engulfed in flames as firefighters battled the blaze and Afghans joined in to aid and its charred remain later hauled away by a larger truck. "These Afghan refugees were returning home after spending a long time in Iran, but they could not reach their destination as their bus met with a tragic accident," Muttaqi stated. The Iranian regime has cracked down on undocumented nationals. It comes as Iran has moved to expel nearly 2 million Afghan nationals from within its border, some who have lived in Iran for decades. More than 1.2 million since June have forcibly been returned to troubled Afghanistan as Iranian officials have accused Afghans of spying for Israel following its brief military conflict around spring. Jillian Michaels Slams ‘Biggest Loser' Documentary—Reportedly May Sue

Jillian Michaels, a former trainer on the NBC reality show 'The Biggest Loser,' told TMZ she may sue over a new Netflix docuseries highlighting what former contestants say was cruel treatment, specifically refuting an allegation that trainers on the show broke rules by giving contestants caffeine supplements to lose weight, since she claimed that was never actually one of the show's rules. Former "The Biggest Loser" trainer Jillian Michaels slammed a new Netflix docuseries about the reality show on Tuesday. (Photo by) Getty Images Michaels, who did not participate in the documentary, told TMZ on Tuesday morning she is meeting with lawyers about filing a lawsuit against Netflix, producers of the documentary, former trainer Bob Harper and a doctor who appeared on the show for making what she says are false claims. Michaels said in an Instagram post Tuesday morning caffeine was 'NEVER banned on 'The Biggest Loser,'' refuting an allegation made in the docuseries that trainers gave contestants caffeine pills despite being against the show's rules. Michaels shared emails from 2009 on Instagram, which appear to show the trainers and producers coordinating to provide contestants caffeine supplements. TMZ reported Michaels is meeting on Tuesday with Bryan Freedman, an entertainment lawyer also representing Justin Baldoni in his legal battle against Blake Lively (Forbes has reached out to Freedman for comment). This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
