Happy birthday, Erie! Friday marks 230 years since city's founding
The City of Erie is celebrating a birthday this week.
Mayor Joe Schember announced on Thursday at his press conference that Friday, April 18, marks 230 years since the city's founding in 1795.
Erie Insurance plants 100th tree to celebrate 100th anniversary
Mayor Schember said Colonel Seth Reed and his family were the first Europeans to settle here in June of that year.
Just celebrate your life here in Erie. Erie is a wonderful city. We're blessed with it. We have so much to go on. Even just looking out over the lake at night, watching sunsets. We have some of the best sunsets in the world. It's a tremendous place to be. I encourage everyone to enjoy it and really take advantage of it,' said Mayor Schember.
The mayor hopes city residents will take a moment on Thursday to be thankful for all their city has to offer.

Storms pours eight inches of rain in St. Martin Parish
ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KLFY)- According to meteorologists, some areas in St. Martin Parish received nearly eight inches of rain from Friday morning's storms. The flooding rains come following several hours of constant rain bands. Saint Martin Parish President Pete Delcambre told News 10 many areas saw road closures due to high water. 'We had an inundation of rain that just continued on this band, and it gave four inches, six inches, and up to eight inches, I was seeing in some areas that just can't handle that amount of water,' said Delcambre. With high water on roadways, this forced many drivers to turn around. News 10 spoke with one driver, Carey Lewis, who said he hopes officials will fix the drainage issues in the parish. 'That's what we're doing right now, you know we're in the process of preparation, praying, praying that nothing occurs, hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and that's what we're doing as we do every year and just trying to improve our systems.' Storms and muggy for Father's Day Weekend
COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- We are tracking storms moving into the region this evening. One or two could be strong, but the best chance for severe weather remains to our west. Saturday: Storms will enter the forecast again tomorrow. The rain will move in a little quicker than today, just after midday. Any storm that develop could bring heavy rainfall. Father's Day: Scattered storms remain in the First Alert Forecast for Father's Day afternoon. Temperatures will sit in the lower 90s, but feel-like readings will reach into the upper 90s. Next Week: We have one more day of high rain chances on Monday, and then the area slowly begins to dry out. There will still be a chance for rain each afternoon, but widespread showers are not expected next week. This is thanks to an area of high pressure building over the East Coast. Despite the calmer weather, we will still be tracking hot and humid conditions. Afternoon highs will sit in the lower 90s, but heat index readings will be close to 100 degrees all next week. Warren's Chalk on the Walk postponed
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Because of the rain expected Saturday, the Chalk on Walk at the Courthouse Square in Warren is now postponed. It has been rescheduled for July 12. The event is sponsored by the Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County and has been a tradition for around 30 years. There's also face painting, a scavenger hunt and lots of vendors.
