Aruna Irani reveals why she was never close to cousin Bindu: ‘We kept our distance... they didn't like us asking for money'
Aruna Irani
, one of Indian cinema's most prolific actresses with over 500 films to her credit, recently opened up about her distant relationship with cousin and fellow actress
Bindu
. In a recent interview, the veteran actress revealed how complicated family ties and financial struggles contributed to their lack of closeness.
'She is my step-massi's (aunt's) daughter,'
Aruna
explained. 'My maternal grandfather had two wives—one was my mother's mother, and the other was someone else. Bindu was from the second wife. We were never close as cousins,' she told Lehren Retro.
Aruna on early financial struggles
Sharing how financial strain created a divide, Aruna recalled, 'Her father was a director, Nanubhai Desai, and they always kept their distance. What used to happen was that we didn't have much money, so my mother would often borrow from Jyoti Maasi because she couldn't let her children go hungry, right?'
The actress added that she was often sent to ask for small amounts of money, which didn't sit well with the other side of the family.
'Unse baar baar Rs 50 de do, Rs 30 de do aise karke mujhe bhejte the lene ke liye. Toh unko pasand nahi tha,' she said. 'There was nothing wrong in it, but it was like, 'Why do you keep asking for money all the time?' So a distance remained between us because we felt something unpleasant might come of it.
'
Aruna Irani: Mehmood made my career and he was also responsible for my downfall
No professional overlap kept the gap intact
Aruna also noted that despite both finding success in the same industry, they never collaborated onscreen. 'After we both became actors, we never grew close because we never worked together. People would either cast her or me—so we never got the chance to meet.'
Both Aruna Irani and Bindu became household names in Hindi cinema through the 70s and 80s—often playing strong character roles, comic parts, or vamps.

How GTA 5's map made its way into a 2017 Indian action movie
Source: Rockstar Games Back in 2017, keen-eyed fans spotted something bizarre in the Tamil-language action movie Singam 3: a background shot included none other than GTA 5's legendary map. Although the incident went quietly round gaming circles back then, it never received major coverage. With curiosity about such pop culture interfaces increasing in 2025, it's well worth revisiting how a fragment of Los Santos found its way onto the cinema screen. The GTA 5 map cameo in an Indian movie In one of Singam 3's scenes set inside a tactical command room, a digital map appears on a wall monitor. Upon closer inspection, fans recognized the layout, not of an Indian city, but of Los Santos, the fictional city from Rockstar Games' GTA 5. The hilly terrain, road layout, and design were clearly lifted straight from the game. While not widely reported, gaming forums and YouTube comments at the time did talk about the unusual decision. Several thought the special effects team of the movie could have utilized publicly available game resources or just did not anticipate such niceties being examined so closely. For GTA 5 fans, however, the visual was remarkable right off the bat. Why it happened and why it still matters Although no official word came from the filmmakers, the map's appearance was probably due to the use of placeholder images during post-production. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Our one of a kind Patented Cold Water Extraction Process Superior Ginseng Undo Such a creative liberty is not uncommon, particularly when time and money constraints are tight. Game maps, because they are so rich in design and ubiquitous online, sometimes find their way into films without going unnoticed by mainstream moviegoers. What makes this occasion significant in 2025 is the way it illustrates the increasing overlap between games and film. The unintended incorporation of a top video game asset in a broad Indian movie illustrates the extent to which video game imagery has become part of digital society. It also points towards the keen eye for observation by gaming communities, who tend to notice such confluences much before they become generic trivia. The surprise cameo of GTA 5's map in Singam 3 could have been an accident during production, but it is an interesting indicator of how gaming culture seeps into film. Years on, it is a brief but interesting moment that still makes people wonder, and reminds us all that no detail is too minor to spot for fans. Abhishek Bachchan's actress who was critised of not having fuller lips 'Was asked to get nose job, lip fillers', she will be now seen in...
Hindi and Telugu actress Saiyami Kher, who will be seen reprising her role of agent Juhi in the second season of Neeraj Pandey's 'Special Ops', has once shared how she was advised to get lip fillers and a nose job done because people in the industry didn't find her face appropriate. Kher has faced criticism for not undergoing cosmetic procedures. Saiyami seems like a strong-headed actress who refused to undergo the knife. She said in an interview, 'Only on actresses? No, I feel it's actors, actresses – everyone. I feel if someone is not comfortable or happy with the way they look, and they are okay with doing something [to change that, by all means, they should do it if it's going to make them feel like a better, happier person. But you can't be so affected by what the world thinks—that's my opinion. Some people told me I needed to get a lip job done because my lips weren't full enough. They also said I should get a nose job.' Saiyami Kher will be seen in Special Ops 2 On donning an action-packed role, Saiyami at the show's trailer launch in Mumbai on Monday, June 16, said, 'For women, there are certain roles which people don't write and you wonder why. But even before Special Ops, what Neeraj sir did with Taapsee Pannu in Baby stood out for me. I hadn't seen anything like that in Indian cinema before. I love doing action. I love beating up guys. That's what women feel like on the inside when guys tease them on the streets. I'm just happy he gave me that opportunity.' Directed by Shivam Nair, 'Special Ops 2' also stars Kay Kay Menon, Prakash Raj, Vinay Pathak, Karan Tacker, Saiyami Kher, Muzammil Ibrahim, Gautami Kapoor, Parmeet Sethi, and Kali Prasad Mukherjee. Saiyami was also seen with Abhishek Bachchan in 2023's Ghoomer, Jaat, Sharmajee Ki Beti and Agni .
