Chatra: A father had to walk around 5 km on Friday morning, carrying the body of his 8-year-old son, Ajay Kumar, on his shoulders to reach the waiting ambulance. The incident occurred in Kubba village of Yogiyara panchayat under the Pratappur block of Chatra district.
Kubba is home to primitive tribes and is located between dense forests close to Baba Kuti temple of the Yogiyara panchayat. There is no road to the village and no vehicle, including an ambulance, can reach the area even in case of emergencies.
Bhola Ganjhu, a resident of Kubba, lost his son on Thursday evening when he accidentally slipped into a pond while playing near it.
"An ambulance was on the Yogiyara main road to take the body to the Chatra sadar hospital for the post-mortem of my child.
Left with no other option, I carried my son's body on my shoulders for 5 km to the ambulance," he said.
Jahendra Ganjhu, a villager, said the incident was not only heart-wrenching, but it once again exposed the lack of development in remote areas like Kubba. He said they covered the 5 km journey in more than two hours, stopping at a few points. "During the journey, Bhola was silently weeping as he carried the body on his shoulder," he lamented.

After the post-mortem, Bhola was assured of receiving compensation for his son's death under the govt's provisions.
Bhola, however, said this assistance amount cannot reduce the pain which he felt as a father while carrying the body.
Bhola's case is neither the first nor an isolated incident in the Pratappur block. Recently, a pregnant woman died in Bhugada village, just 1km away from the Pratappur block headquarters, because the ambulance could not reach her house. Another similar incident happened in Hindiyakhurd of Siddiqui panchayat, where a tribal woman suffering from labour pain had to be carried on a cot.

In a rare reversal, US NIH reinstates 891 cancelled grants, leaving research teams in disarray

US NIH reinstates 891 cancelled research grants after court ruling. (AI Image) In a major reversal, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) has reinstated 891 biomedical research grants that had previously been cancelled. The move follows a federal court order issued by a judge in Boston, prompting the agency to restore funding to projects that had faced abrupt termination. The grants were initially suspended earlier in the year, affecting hundreds of researchers across the country. Many of these scientists had already enrolled participants, hired staff, or committed resources to long-term studies. The sudden reinstatement, while restoring financial support, has introduced new operational challenges for research teams. Researchers face staffing and operational hurdles One such researcher, Ethan Moitra of Brown University, was among the first to learn that his grant had been cancelled in early February. His study focused on how the Covid-19 pandemic impacted depression and anxiety levels, particularly within LGBTQ+ populations. At the time of cancellation, he had enrolled 240 participants. Although the grant was reinstated in the current month, the short timeline and loss of staffing have made it difficult to resume the study. Moitra noted that only five weeks of funding remain, and that the original team had since disbanded. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Lara Green Is Retiring - Her Final Jewelry Pieces Are 80% Off The Heritage Journal Read More Undo Across the country, similar situations have unfolded. Scientists affected by the initial cancellations had been forced to lay off staff, retract job offers, and pause or completely halt research activities. While the reinstatement has brought a temporary reprieve, many projects are struggling to regain momentum due to administrative and staffing breakdowns. Court order prompts NIH to act The reinstatement of the grants came after a court ruling in Boston, which ordered the NIH to reverse its prior decisions. The ruling affected 891 biomedical research grants, all of which are now back in effect. The NIH has not provided a full statement on the reason for the initial cancellations or the court's findings. Lingering effects on US research infrastructure Although the funding has been restored, the long-term impact on US research programmes remains uncertain. The disruption caused by the grant cancellations has affected ongoing data collection, team structures, and project timelines. Many researchers are now facing compressed schedules, with some left with only a few weeks of funding to complete their studies. The reinstated grants cover a wide range of biomedical topics and were part of ongoing federal research initiatives. The temporary loss of these projects has contributed to wider operational challenges within the US scientific community. TOI Education is on WhatsApp now. Follow us here . 37L govt school children to undergo health screening by Dec: Edu dept

Ranchi: The School Education and Literacy Department has made health check-ups mandatory for all students under the National Child Health Program (RBSK) to ensure early detection and management of health issues among school-going children. The department has issued detailed guidelines to all districts to ensure 100% coverage of students enrolled in govt schools across the state. A comprehensive framework has been established to facilitate the smooth rollout of the initiative. Under this, a team-based structure has been formed, where each health team is assigned a target to conduct health checkups of 1,200 children per quarter. A quarterly plan is already in place, and 23 health check-up camps are scheduled til September. A letter in this regard has been sent to all districts, said sources in the education department. A target of 37 lakh children is set for the full cycle of health check-ups across Jharkhand, covering two key phases: July to September and October to December. Tt is now compulsory for schools to record the height and weight of all students every six months using height and weight measuring machines available at every school. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Lara Green Is Retiring - Her Final Jewelry Pieces Are 80% Off The Heritage Journal Read More Undo Schools must maintain updated registers for monitoring child growth patterns and provide this data during the quarterly health visits. Each school will be supported by a coordinated effort involving the school principal, Bal Sansad (student parliament) members, cook-cum-helpers, the School Management Committee, Block Resource Persons (BRP), Cluster Resource Persons (CRP), Block Education Extension Officers (BEEO), and the District Education Superintendent (DES). The District Education Superintendent will coordinate with the Civil Surgeon to prepare and share a detailed quarterly visit plan to cover all schools under their jurisdiction. The Block Education Extension Officer will supervise the availability of Iron Folic Acid (IFA) and deworming tablets, ensuring that the expiry date of any distributed medicine is not less than six months. Special attention is given to single-teacher schools, where Block Resource Persons will support the lone educator in organising and managing the health camps. In the event of medicine shortages, BRPs are instructed to coordinate with the nearest Block Health Center to secure an adequate supply. The district-wise target for school children's health checkups during the ongoing quarter includes Giridih with the highest target of 5,47,569 children, followed by Palamu with 3,10,168, West Singhbhum/Chaibasa with 2,28,756, Sahebganj with 2,17,318, and Godda with 2,11,960. Other major districts include Ranchi with 2,00,691, Garhwa with 2,07,191, and Pakur with 1,57,687. Districts like Deoghar, Hazaribagh, Gumla, and East Singhbhum also have substantial targets, while smaller districts such as Simdega, Koderma, Ramgarh, Lohardaga, and Khunti have lower but focused targets to ensure every child is covered under the health initiative. Ranchi district superintendent of education Badal Raj said that they will soon issue directives to all schools in the district to begin testing in next few days. "Through this camp, the education department has reiterated the importance of inter-departmental coordination and community involvement to meet this mammoth health objective. Schools have taken the guidelines seriously and will contribute actively to the health and well-being of the student. 'I've Been to Some Very Dark Places': Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown Candidly Shares Mental Health Struggles

Jaylen Brown comments on his mental health (Image via Imagn) Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has long stood out for his explosive game and thoughtful demeanor, but it's his recent openness about his battle with anxiety and depression that has captured hearts far beyond the basketball court. In a raw and deeply personal interview, Brown shed light on the emotional challenges he's faced behind the scenes - even while achieving the highest honors in the NBA. Jaylen Brown Confronts His Inner Battles Speaking on the 'School of Hard Knocks' podcast, Brown didn't hold back: 'I've dealt with anxiety, even depression. I've been to some very dark places. But I feel like those dark places have allowed my light to shine.' In a world where athletes are often expected to be stoic, Brown's honesty is both rare and powerful. He joins a growing list of NBA players - like DeMar DeRozan and Kevin Love - who've publicly addressed mental health, helping dismantle the stigma around vulnerability in sports. Success Doesn't Shield You From Struggle Despite winning Finals MVP honors, earning multiple All-Star selections, and signing one of the most lucrative contracts in league history, Brown still wrestles with internal pressures and outside expectations. From swirling trade rumors to the responsibilities of leadership, he acknowledges that the journey hasn't always been easy. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ternali: Unsold Sofas Prices May Surprise You (Prices May Surprise You) Sofas | Search Ads Search Now Undo 'Naysayers? It's simply part of the game. Statues aren't erected for naysayers. They are built for individuals who achieve greatness, you know?' Even with the spotlight on him, Jaylen Brown reminds fans that mental and emotional battles don't discriminate - success doesn't make one immune. Jaylen Brown's Lessons From Pain - and a Message of Strength Jaylen Brown offers words of encouragement to those facing their own emotional struggles: 'It's OK. Never let anything break your spirit. Everybody's gonna deal with adversity at some point - even plants struggle to get sunlight.' He also highlighted how faith and resilience helped him through his darkest times: 'There were nights I didn't want to get up - but I always did. That's where my faith came in. Anytime I've ever been alone, I've filled that space with the Most High.' Jaylen Brown's reflections go beyond inspiration - they're a call to stay true to oneself and never confuse borrowed confidence for genuine self-worth: 'The moon borrows light from the sun. Yet, people never mistake the two… While the moon may borrow light from the sun, the sun remains the sun, shining every day.' Embracing a Leadership Role in Boston's New Era With Jayson Tatum sidelined and veteran players moving on, Brown now shoulders more responsibility than ever before. He's expected to be more than just a scorer or defender - he's the emotional backbone of a reconfigured Celtics team entering a transitional phase. 'I want the city to feel excited… This is not the end. Looking forward to what's next.' This next chapter isn't just about winning games. It's about how Brown leads with authenticity and transparency, setting the tone both on the court and in the community. Changing the Conversation on Mental Health in Sports Jaylen Brown's revelations contribute to a broader cultural shift: that mental health isn't a weakness to hide, but a challenge to face. His message dismantles outdated ideas about toughness in professional sports and redefines what strength truly looks like. His story is a reminder that even those who appear to have it all are still human - and that speaking up, seeking help, and embracing your vulnerability can be the most courageous move of all.
