Sounders put unbeaten streak on line against Dynamo

Mint09-05-2025

The Houston Dynamo will honor several of their past legends, including Dwayne De Rosario, as part of their 20th anniversary celebration Saturday night when they play host to the Seattle Sounders.
What will make the occasion even more special for De Rosario is that his son Osaze is expected to be in uniform for the Sounders.
The younger De Rosario had eight goals in five matches for the Sounders' MLS Next Pro club, the Tacoma Defiance, this season. He came off the bench and nearly scored in his MLS debut last weekend in a 4-1 victory against St. Louis City SC.
Forward Danny Musovski has scored in four consecutive matches in place of the injured Jordan Morris (hamstring) for the Sounders (4-3-4, 16 points), who are riding a four-match unbeaten streak (3-0-1).
De Rosario gives the Sounders some depth up front.
"Jordan's re-injury had something to do with it, but Osaze has been on an upward trajectory," Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer said. "He's got good starting points, that's what I would say. In our (St. Louis game), some of his hold-up play, his ability to be physical. He missed the goal, which everybody sees, but I liked what I saw in all of the other important parts of the game."
The elder De Rosario played with the Dynamo from 2006 to 2008 and was named the MVP of the 2007 MLS Cup when Houston won the second of its consecutive titles. In addition to Osaze, Dwayne's other son Adisa signed a homegrown contract with Toronto FC in February as a goalkeeper.
"It's amazing," De Rosario told MLSsoccer.com. "I'm very blessed and thankful to have kids that, first, are healthy, that are driving and going after their goals and their dreams. I'm very proud of where they are.
"I steered them in the direction of soccer hoping they'd be soccer players. Thankfully it worked out accordingly. I can only give them what I know, and all I knew was soccer."
The Dynamo (2-5-4, 10 points), who defeated Phoenix Rising FC in the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, suffered a 2-0 loss last weekend at Los Angeles FC in which they failed to record a shot on goal. Houston goalkeeper Jonathan Bond made eight saves to prevent a blowout.
"We're toothless right now," Dynamo coach Ben Olsen said.
This will be the second meeting of the season between the Western Conference rivals after a scoreless draw March 22 in Seattle.

15 years later, Dwyane Wade fans threw shade at LeBron James after Miami Heat legend's wild response to historic MVP snub

About one and a half decades later, NBA fans are still finding it hard to swallow the hard Dwyane Wade MVP snub pill. While Wade has responded to the historic snub 15 years later on his Instagram story, fans rushed to social media to reignite the debate once again, although this has been a reminder for almost every year that Wade and fans were heartbroken as secured the NBA's one of the most valued honor to his name. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Dwyane Wade responds to his 2009 MVP snub NBA legend Dwyane Wade still hasn't forgotten the season that could've been his MVP moment. The 2009 campaign saw Wade dominate on both ends of the court and carry a struggling Miami Heat roster to playoff contention. But despite leading the league in scoring and turning in one of the most complete seasons of his career, the MVP award ultimately went to LeBron James. It was a decision that continues to stir conversation among fans and now, from Wade himself. In a recent Instagram story, Dwyane Wade didn't hold back his thoughts on what many consider one of the biggest MVP snubs in modern NBA history. Reflecting on his 2009 season, Wade shared a pointed reminder of how he performed despite his team's limitations, "Even with a 43 win team! That's how you know the boy was hooping," he wrote. That statement wasn't just a flex, it was backed by facts. Wade led the entire NBA in scoring that season with 30.2 points per game and earned spots on both the All-NBA and All-Defensive teams. He was also in the conversation for Defensive Player of the Year, making him one of the most well-rounded contributors that season. While Wade's individual brilliance was unquestioned, his Miami Heat squad lacked depth and consistency. The team managed to squeeze into the playoffs with a 43–39 record before falling in a tightly contested seven-game series against the Atlanta Hawks. Without Wade's heroics, the Heat's season could've easily derailed. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now NBA fans reacted to Dwyane Wade's 2009 MVP race Dwyane Wade's reaction to 2009 MVP snub. Image via: @dwyanewade/Instagram. Wade's performance that year still resonates with fans, particularly given that he finished third in MVP voting, behind Kobe Bryant and eventual winner LeBron James, the same LeBron who would join forces with Wade just two seasons later in Miami. Together, they would go on to claim two NBA championships, but for Wade, 2009 remains a year of personal vindication. As teh debate resurfaced, fans took to X to share their thoughts. 'DWade should've won,' one fan declared. 'Wade got robbed,' another asserted. One fan claimed that 'Wade was the best player that season.' One user gave an analytical take, 'D-Wade robbed. Not that it's any direct correlation at all, but he averaged more ppg and apg than the other three and was on by far the worst team. Woulda been dead last without him, got the 5 seed. Always said Wade deserved 09, and Lebron deserved 2011 and 2018.' 'The only player in NBA History. Yup NBA History! with 2000 points, 500 assists, 100 steals, and 100 blocks in a season. He did it all. Dwyane Wade had a statistically impossible season (after being an NBA champ a few years prior) and they still didn't give him the MVP. Robbed,' another user shared. Wade retired in 2019 after playing 15 of his 16 seasons with the Miami Heat, with brief stops in Chicago and Cleveland.

Colton Gordon's electric debut fuels Astros' victory over Guardians

Colton Gordon (Image Source: Getty) Rookie starter Colton Gordon earned his first career win Friday night at Progressive Field while the Houston Astros took down the Cleveland Guardians 4-2. Gordon's steady outing, along with the timely hitting and sparkling defense, helped the Astros to their ninth win in 12 games. Colton Gordon shines in first MLB win The 26-year-old southpaw Colton Gordon demonstrated his poise, making his fifth career start and throwing five innings while allowing only one run. Gordon did not walk a batter and struck out five while allowing seven hits. His teammates celebrated the achievement with a clubhouse ritual, pouring hot sauce, mustard, and other condiments on him. In the fifth inning, the Astros' offense broke loose after Cleveland's José Ramírez made an error on a ground ball. Jeremy Peña scored from second on a throwing error, and a two-run double by Christian Walker made it a 3-0 Houston lead. In the sixth, Brendan Rodgers hit his first home run and first hit since May 11, a solo shot. In the bottom of the fifth, the Guardians added a run when Daniel Schneemann, Nolan Jones, and Will Wilson all hit singles. Josh Hader pitched a perfect ninth for his 17th save, earning the win for Houston. Astros' defense and baserunning make the difference The defense was critical in the win for Houston. LFF Mauricio Dubón made two outfield assists in the first inning, cutting down both Angel Martínez and José Ramírez trying to stretch singles into doubles. Jacob Melton, in right field, helped keep the Guardians from getting back in the game with a diving catch in the fifth. NBA's talks about new league in Europe are continuing, though the process remains in early stages

OKLAHOMA CITY — The NBA's talks with FIBA and other entities about the process of adding a new league in Europe are continuing, Commissioner Adam Silver said, though he noted that it may take at least a couple more years to turn the ideas into reality. Silver spoke at a league event to unveil a refurbished Boys & Girls Club in Oklahoma City on Friday — an off day for the NBA Finals — and said it's difficult to put a specific timeline on the Europe plans. 'I will say it's measured in years, not months,' Silver said. 'So, we're at least a couple years away from launching. It would be an enormous undertaking. And while we want to move forward at a deliberate pace, we also want to make sure that we're consulting with all the appropriate stakeholders, meaning the existing league, its teams, European players, media companies, marketing partners. There's a lot of work to be done.' Silver and FIBA secretary general Andreas Zagklis announced in March that the league and the game's governing body are finally taking long-awaited steps to form a new league, with an initial target of 16 teams. It had been talked about for years, and decades even on some levels. And since the NBA and FIBA went public with their idea to move forward, talks have gotten more constructive, Silver said. Silver said the NBA has been talking directly with the EuroLeague and with some member clubs about a partnership. It's his preference that the NBA work with the existing league on some level, though it's still too early to say exactly what that means. 'Either way, we continue to feel there are an enormous number of underserved basketball fans in Europe and that there's a strong opportunity to have another league styled after the NBA,' Silver said. About one in every six current NBA players hails from Europe, including Denver's Nikola Jokic and Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo — who have combined for five of the last seven MVP awards — along with the Los Angeles Lakers' Luka Doncic and San Antonio's Victor Wembanyama . The NBA's board of governors will talk more about next steps with the European plans in July at their scheduled meeting in Las Vegas, Silver said. It's possible that the European venture could be unveiled in some way — or possibly start — around the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, just given how much attention will be on international basketball at that time. 'That might be a good launching pad for an announcement around a new competition,' Silver said. Some of the cities that are expected to have interest in being part of the new venture include London, Manchester, Rome and Munich. There will be others, of course. 'We haven't had direct conversations yet,' Silver said. "But there have been several organizations that have come forward and said they would be interested and potential owners in operating in those major markets in Europe.' NBA: /nba
