Glastonbury Festival condemns chants of ‘free Palestine' and ‘death to the IDF'
Palestinian flags waved amid the crowd at the Glastonbury Festival on Saturday as several performers led the audience in chants criticizing Israel's continued military campaign in Gaza.
English punk duo Bob Vylan came under fire after appearing to encourage tens of thousands of audience members to call for 'death' to the Israeli Defense Forces during their set. Following chants of 'Free, free Palestine,' singer Bobby Vylan appeared to switch to a different line: 'Death, death to the IDF.'
'From the river to the sea,' Vylan could be seen saying on video shared across social media, 'Palestine must be, will be, inshallah, it will be free.'
Emily Eavis, co-organizer of the Glastonbury Festival in southwestern England, shared in a statement Sunday that the festival is 'appalled' by Vylan's statements.
'Their chants very much crossed a line and we are urgently reminding everyone involved in the production of the Festival that there is no place at Glastonbury for antisemitism, hate speech or incitement to violence,' Eavis wrote.
She wrote that the organizers stand against 'all forms of war and terrorism' and will always advocate for 'hope, unity, peace and love.'
'With almost 4,000 performances at Glastonbury 2025, there will inevitably be artists and speakers appearing on our stages whose views we do not share,' Eavis added, 'and a performer's presence here should never be seen as a tacit endorsement of their opinions and beliefs.'
The incident comes as criticism of Israel grows louder around the world, with many in the U.K., U.S. and elsewhere protesting the state's continual bombardment of the Gaza Strip, where the death toll has surpassed 55,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Israel has also been accused of war crimes by the U.N. Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
On Saturday afternoon, the Avon and Somerset Police were quick to announce in an X post that officers are assessing video evidence to 'determine whether any offences may have been committed that would require a criminal investigation.'
The BBC, which aired the festival, also said that some of Vylan's comments onstage were 'deeply offensive.'
'During this live stream on iPlayer, which reflected what was happening on stage, a warning was issued on screen about the very strong and discriminatory language,' a spokesperson wrote in an email. 'We have no plans to make the performance available on demand.'
And in a statement issued by the Israeli Embassy in the United Kingdom, officials denounced speech that they said 'crosses into incitement, hatred, and advocacy of ethnic cleansing.' The embassy wrote that chants like 'Death to the IDF,' and 'From the river to the sea' are phrases that 'advocate for the dismantling of the State of Israel and implicitly call for the elimination of Jewish self-determination.'
'When such messages are delivered before tens of thousands of festivalgoers and met with applause, it raises serious concerns about the normalization of extremist language and the glorification of violence,' the embassy wrote.
Bob Vylan did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
But the punk group wasn't the only act to land in hot water for its conduct at the festival. Northern Irish rap trio Kneecap — which has stirred controversy before for its vocally pro-Palestinian views — also criticized Israel during its set while encouraging chants of 'Free, free Palestine.'
Last month, British authorities charged Kneecap rapper Mo Chara, whose real name is Liam O'Hanna (or Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh), with a terrorism offense after he was accused of displaying the flag of the Hezbollah militant group. He appeared in court earlier this month.
On Saturday, the band appeared to kick off its set with a video compilation highlighting the terror charge as well as politicians criticizing Glastonbury's decision to allow Kneecap to play, according to clips that circulated online.
'I don't have to lecture you people. Israel are war criminals. It's a f-----g genocide,' O'Hanna told the crowd. He also called attention to the number of Palestinian flags in the audience, adding, 'The BBC editors are gonna have some job.'
He then called on the crowd to join him in the chant, emphasizing the 'difference it makes to people in Palestine when they see people from the other side of the world.'
The band also drew backlash earlier this year when it included pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel messaging at Coachella, where it displayed a screen with the words: 'F--- Israel, Free Palestine.'
'The Irish not so long ago were persecuted at the hands of the Brits, but we were never bombed from the ... skies with nowhere to go,' O'Hanna said at Coachella during the band's second weekend performance. 'The Palestinians have nowhere to go.'

Charli XCX crowns Gracie Abrams as her 'Apple girl' as she performs headline slot at Glastonbury
Charli XCX crowned Gracie Abrams as her 'Apple girl' during her Glastonbury headline slot on Saturday. The Dance The Night hitmaker, 32, has made it a tradition to have a special surprise guest perform the viral TikTok dance to her track Apple. While performing on The Other Stage, Charli clutched a glass of white wine as she said: 'You know what time it is, now who the f**k is going to be 'Apple girl' at Glastonbury? 'Who did you find out there? Someone cute?' The camera then panned to singer Gracie, 25 - the daughter of director J. J. Abrams - who was quick to showcase the dance that made the 'under-appreciated' song on Charli's 2024 album Brat a viral sensation. Created by TikTok star Kelley Heyer, the simple dance features several moves including, famously, pretending to hold an apple. Gracie threw herself into the challenge, playfully performing the moves and miming along to the track. The That's So True hitmaker previously took to the Glastonbury stage herself on Friday night as a headliner at The West Holts Stage, with Charli in attendance in the crowd. Previous 'Apple girls' have included Chappell Roan, Charli's fiancé The 1975 drummer George Daniel, Rosé from Blackpink and Chicken Shop Date podcaster Amelia Dimoldenberg. Reactions to Charli's choice of Apple girl at this weekend's festival were mixed on social media, with one commentator even making a viral meme to imply that Gracie's director father had paid for her to get the position. Others remarked: 'GRACIE ABRAMS WAS THE APPLE GIRL AT GLASTONBURY OH MY F**KING GOD SHES INSANE.'; 'I wasn't Charli xcx's Apple girl at Glastonbury so I blocked Gracie Abrams #glastonbury.' But many had positive reactions such as: 'gracie as the apple girl shut up this is everything to me.'; 'U WERE LEGENDARY TY FOR BEING APPLE GIRL TOO BTW MADE MY NIGHT [sic].' Reactions to Charli's choice of an Apple girl were mixed - one commentator even made a viral meme implying that Gracie's director father had paid for her to get the position Many had positive reactions such as: 'gracie as the apple girl shut up this is everything to me' Following the performance, Charli hit back on social media at claims she is a 'fraud' after being criticised for her headline Glastonbury set. The singer performed to a packed crowd at Worthy Farm but came under fire after many said they were convinced she was miming or using autotune. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Charli referenced the 'boomer vibe' comments as she hit back at claims. She wrote: 'Like the idea that singing with deliberate autotune makes you a fraud or that not having a traditional band suddenly means you must not be a 'real artist' is like, the most boring take ever. yawn sorry just fell asleep xx 'But to be honest… I enjoy the discourse. imo the best art is divisive and confrontational and often evolves into truly interesting culture rather than being like kind of ok, easily understood and sort of forgettable.' She added: 'Really enjoying these boomer vibe comments on my Glastonbury performance. It's super fascinating to me,' before thanking those who gave her five star reviews. It comes after viewers called the energetic performance 'truly terrible' and claimed she was the 'worst headline act' at the festival. Charlie xcx is truly truly terrible? This is not actual music is it? Who is listening to this on a playlist seriously it's torture sounds. Gotta be one of the worst headline acts ever at Glastonbury'; 'This Charlie xcx thing is the worst headline act in Glastonbury history. There may be headliners that you don't like. 'But at least they try and fkn sing. Her fee should be withheld, as tbh, you could have put a stripper on stage with a Spotify speaker and got the same results'; 'This Glastonbury set by Charli XCX is one of the worst things I've ever seen in my life. Barely singing, autotune in the rare moments she does sing a bit and horrendous dancing. Be fuming if you spent ages getting into that crowd only to see that'. During her performance, Charli put on a very racy display showing off her toned figure in tiny black leather hot pants and a mesh skull crop top. Charli accessorised with a floaty Alexander McQueen scarf, and hid her eyes behind oversized dark sunglasses. As well as playing Apple, the crowd went wild as she performed hits including Party 4 U, Speed Drive, Sympathy Is a Knife, and 360.

Glastonbury headliner ‘had to use cheat sheet on stage to remember lyrics of most famous songs'
NEIL Young reportedly had to use a cheat sheet during his Glastonbury headline set to remember the lyrics to some of his most famous songs. Rock legend Neil, 79, is believed to have been seen glancing at a printed song sheet during the final 25 minutes of his 110-minute Pyramid Stage performance on Saturday night. 3 Audience members say they saw the musician checking the lyrics during renditions of Old Man and Name of Love as the show drew to a close. One festivalgoer told MailOnline: 'You'd think he would know the words by now, he has been singing these songs for years. 'But maybe it's difficult to play the piano and remember the lyrics.' Neil - one of the oldest artists ever to headline Glastonbury - performed a set packed with hits including Rockin' in the Free World and Throw Your Hatred Down. However, the performance appeared to attract a smaller crowd than previous Saturday night headliners, with some attendees noting that the field in front of the Pyramid Stage was unusually sparse. One wrote on social media: 'So empty at Neil Young," while another added: Pyramid stage field isn't even a quarter full by the looks of it.' The appearance marked his first Glastonbury performance since 2009. Neil had initially turned down this year's offer, criticising the BBC's involvement with the festival and claiming it was 'under corporate control'. Representatives for Neil and Glastonbury have been contacted for comment. But that wasn't Neil's only trouble during the gig. The Canadian rock veteran also had difficulties with his microphone throughout the set. He opened his show with Sugar Mountain, saying, 'Thank you folks," to the crowd as the song ended. But those watching it were not impressed, with one person commenting: 'Someone tell Neil Young to sing into a microphone.' A second moaned: 'Sound needs turning up like ffs, he's shredding that axe and you can hardly hear it.' While a third said: 'Neil young with 48 microphones and none of them able to make his voice sound much beyond a grumble. Glastonbury has had a real hard time with the headliners the last couple of years…' And a fourth added: 'Watched a few minutes of this Neil Young man, this is like the worst thing I've ever seen and heard. 'It's a no from me! Neil Young should not be headlining!Terrible!' raged another. The star's set was shown live on the BBC after the broadcaster had previously said it would not be transmitted live"at the artist's request". Earlier on Saturday, a BBC statement said: "We are delighted to confirm that Neil Young's headline set from Glastonbury on Saturday will be broadcast live to audiences across the UK on the BBC." Neil's performance was not guaranteed as earlier in the year he temporarily pulled out of, claiming it is a "corporate turn-off" due to its broadcast deal with the BBC. He said on his website: "We were told that BBC was now a partner in Glastonbury and wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in. "It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being." But just days later he did a surprise U-turn, the singer confirmed his slot blaming "an error in the information I received" for him initially turning down the offer. A statement on his website read: "Due to an error in the information received, I had decided to not play the Glastonbury Festival, which I always have loved. "Happily, the festival is now back on our itinerary and we look forward to playing. Hope to see you there." The Sun first reported that the singer was booked to headline Glastonbury, 16 years after he last played on the Pyramid Stage. Glastonbury 2025 - confirmed acts so far TICKETS to the 2025 festival sold out in just minutes before some of the acts were even confirmed. Here is who has been confirmed so far. Confirmed headliners: The 1975 will take to the Pyramid Stage on Friday. Neil Young will headline the festival for the second time after his last set in 2009 on Saturday after RAYE makes her return. Charli xcx will headline the Other Stage on Saturday night. On Sunday, Olivia Rodrigo is due to belt out her hits for her first appearance while Rod Stewart will perform in the legends slot. More acts to appear on the Other Stage include Loyle Carner and The Prodigy. Doechii will make her Glastonbury debut on the West Holts Stage on Saturday night. Other names confirmed include Noah Kahan, Alanis Morissette, Gracie Abrams, Busta Rhymes, Lola Young, Brandi Carlile, Myles Smith, En Vogue, Amaarae, Cymande, Shaboozey, Osees and Gary Numan. 3 3

Beckham goes boujee! Youngest son Cruz, 20, and girlfriend Jackie Apostel, 30, share glimpse of their VERY lavish Glastonbury experience staying in luxury campsite with jacuzzi, 24/7 staff, IV drips and breakfast in bed
Cruz Beckham has shown off a glimpse inside his extravagant Glastonbury experience, which he spent at an opulent accommodation complete with its own boutique spa and fully equipped gym. The youngest son of David and Victoria, 20, and his girlfriend Jackie Apostel, 30, spent the festival at Camp Kerala, where a five-night stay begins at an eye-watering £8,225 per-person, with The Telegraph reporting it can go up to £24,000. The couple wasted no time in taking to their Instagrams on Monday to share a look at the luxury campsite - where each tent comes equipped with sheepskin rugs, heating, electricity and fresh flowers, in a far cry from the regular festival-goer's experience. Cruz posted snaps of him and Jackie lounging on their king-sized bed with Egyptian cotton sheets, as he serenaded her on his guitar. While she revealed more glimpses inside their spacious star-patterned tent, flaunting her toned figure as she posed up a storm in the full-length mirror in the vanity area. The singer also put on a leggy display in another mirror selfie taken in what appeared to be taken from inside the site's pamper room, salon, or beauty room. Both Cruz and Jackie shared a shot of their car arriving to the campsite as part of the chauffeur service that transports guests directly to the festival, with Jackie snapping a pouting selfie from the backseat. While Cruz could also be seen indulging in the accommodation's breakfast in bed perk, tucking into a full English breakfast. He also took to his Stories to share a snap of him enjoying the jacuzzi at the campsite - which also has a sauna, plunge baths and hot tubs. And as if they hadn't inspired enough jealousy from fans, Jackie also shared a snap of her and Cruz cuddling with adorable puppy during what appeared to be a puppy therapy event onsite. Captioning his post, Cruz said: 'Glastonbury wouldn't have been so good without @campkerala', while Jackie simply wrote: 'A VERY WHOLESOME GLASTO'. Camp Kerala describes itself as a 'sanctuary' that offers 'a restful retreat that allows you to unwind amidst any festival's vibrant energy.' Included in its hefty price tag is access to the spa, cocoon, energy area, bakery and coffee area, cocktail and Champagne bars, All Saints shop and two restaurants. While guests can also enjoy daily IV drips, hair braiding, their own live music shows, a fully-stocked fancy dress cupboard, views of the festival and 24/7 staff service to tend to their every need. Cruz and Jackie's followers were divided over the their display of wealth, with many rushing to the comments to reveal their envy, writing: 'Now that's how you do it!!'; 'Camping goals'; 'It's great if you can afford it'. However, others criticised the ostentation, claiming it was far removed from what Glastonbury was all about and what made it so enjoyable. They wrote: 'Hardly the Glastonbury experience; 'I feel like a proper bed in a tent, is missing the real experience!; 'Missing True Spirit'. It comes after Cruz seemed to issue yet another swipe at his elder brother Brooklyn amid the family's bitter fallout, as he hit back at trolls on social media. Last week, he took to TikTok a to upload a video of himself playing the guitar, which soon attracted several negative comments. One said: 'Are you going to stick with this job or going to become a race car driver next or something?' However, Cruz, seemingly throwing shade at his brother Brooklyn's many career paths, was quick to respond: 'Wrong brother mate'. Over the years, Brooklyn has tried his hand at several different careers from modelling, to photography to becoming a chef and most recently training as a Formula E driver. In a final blow, one follower penned: 'He has the talent of an average teenage boy that just recently started learning guitar', to which he shot back: 'It's easy to comment on TikTok isn't it u think I care what you think darling x' Cruz's sassy comments came shortly after he took to Instagram to show his support for his parents David and Victoria, who are in the midst of an escalating rift with Brooklyn, 26, and his actress wife, Nicola. The budding musician shared pointed lyrics from a 1969 song by The Beatles with the tentative title of The End to his Stories on Saturday, captioned: 'The truth will unfold'. The lyrics read: 'Love you, I love you / Love you, I love you / Love you, I love you / Love you, I love you / And in the end / The love you take / Is equal to the love you make' . Last month, Cruz used music again to weigh into he feud as he reflected on one of his mother Victoria's 2001 songs with rather poignant lyrics. In what could be interpreted as a coded message to Brooklyn he took to Instagram Stories to urge his army of followers to listen to Posh's early noughties song Every Part Of Me. The lyrics to the song - a track from Victoria's self-titled debut album - include declarations of love in the wake of adversity and state 'I promise I'll be here if someone ever breaks your heart'. The former Spice Girls singer turned fashion designer, 51, declares 'I'll always be a part of you' and states 'when I look at you I see me from my heart to your soul I'll always love you so'. With the lyrics taking on a whole new meaning in light of the 'devastating' feud rippling through the Beckham family, Victoria sings 'I've seen how easy things can change. And people never stay the same... 'I think you should know that people gonna come and go. Be assured of this one thing, I will still remain. 'I know that there will come a day when you have to go away. But you have no reason to fear, I promise I'll be here if someone ever breaks your heart. 'And you feel your world is torn apart. My love for you will bring you through hard times. I'll help you be strong.' The song somewhat heartbreakingly concludes: 'I'll always love you so... You'll always be my baby.'
