Al-Sudani targets price gouging amid stable USD
Shafaq News/ On Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani ordered official agencies to crack down on price manipulators, targeting food, medicine, bakeries, and flour mills.
Highlighting the stable dollar-to-dinar exchange rate, he accused some companies and traders of exploiting prices or refusing to adjust them despite market stability.
Al-Sudani urged regulators to work closely with the ministries of Commerce, Agriculture, and Health to enforce steady pricing on essential goods critical to everyday life.
The US dollar has seen a gradual decline in recent weeks. As of Monday, it traded at 142,750 IQD per $100 on local currency exchanges.

It added, "The new contract includes equipping the national system with 300 MW as a first phase via the Jazara-Kask 400 kV interconnection line in Nineveh Governorate, with the line's capacity to be increased to 600 MW within less than one month." It indicated that "the ministry's companies have already completed all technical requirements for the interconnection, including the necessary stations and lines, in addition to fulfilling all contractual obligations." The ministry explained that "this project will directly contribute to increasing the hours of supply to the northern regions. The Iraq-Turkey interconnection line also offers numerous strategic advantages, most notably linking the Iraqi grid to the European energy grid, of which Turkey is a prominent member." She noted that "one of the important aspects of this contract is that its provisions stipulate supply according to the "Take and Pay" system, which means payment for the amount consumed, which provides economic flexibility for Iraq and ensures optimal use of imported energy without financial waste." The ministry also added explained that "this project is part of the Ministry of Electricity's strategy within the government's program to diversify energy sources and reduce dependence on a single source, as well as opening new horizons for cooperation with neighboring countries and the European Union."

China, India continue to be Iraq's largest oil importers
Baghdad ( – China and India continue to be major importers of Iraqi oil during May, according to customs data analysis from the two countries. China's imports of Iraqi oil grew by more than 22,000 barrels per day on an annual basis, to 1.11 million barrels per day, compared to 1.08 million barrels per day in the same month in 2024, Shafaq News reported. India's imports of Iraqi oil fell by 28,000 barrels per day, to 931,000 barrels per day, compared to 959,000 barrels per day in May 2024. Iraq primarily exports its oil shipments by sea, sending approximately 400,000 to 450,000 barrels per day to Jordan. This volume includes a stipulated rate of 15,000 barrels per day, as outlined in an agreement signed between the two countries. According to recent reports, the volume of crude oil that Iraq exported by sea declined to 3.27 million barrels per day in May 2025 compared to 3.30 million barrels per day in April 2025. Additionally, government sources indicated that Iraq's oil exports in May and June 2025 are expected to be less than 3.2 million barrels per day to meet its OPEC+ production quota, according to Attaqa News. During the first five months of 2025, Iraq's crude oil exports averaged approximately 3.33 million barrels per day, compared to 3.45 million barrels per day during the same period in 2024. Iraq's total seaborne exports of oil decreased to 3.66 million barrels per day during May 2025, compared to 3.87 million barrels per day in May 2024.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) stated that "The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Ankara, Majid Al-Lajmawi, received the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Afghanistan to the Republic of Turkey, Muhammad Zubair Wadan, in his office at the Iraqi Embassy building in the Turkish capital, Ankara." "The meeting discussed bilateral relations between Iraq and Afghanistan and ways to strengthen them to serve the common interests of the two countries. The possibility of reopening the Iraqi and Afghan embassies in each country was also discussed, which would contribute to the resumption of full diplomatic representation between them and the consolidation of official relations between the two sides."
