Baker High School students create parody of Severance

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Students at C.W. Baker High School are bringing the hit TV show, Severance, to real life. They created a parody and aired the special episode last month.
'We wanted to do something to kind of put it into a school sense and make it almost relatable, but still a parody,' said Aubrey Leaton, a sophomore at C.W. Baker High School.
The school's news team, Baker News (WBXL), spent an entire month writing, editing, and filming the parody.
'It was a big task. But I was happy to do it, an honor,' said Leif Donhehey, junior at C.W. Baker High School.
The project put their creativity to the test.
'I did a lot of the camera work, cinematography, aligning shots, just figuring out a lot of the physical stuff,' said Evan Beckwith, junior at C.W. Baker High School.
'To get the look we wanted to, I would have to come up with unique ways to get the shots. Taking off the tripod, and like she said, standing up on the table,' said Donhehey.
But it wasn't easy.
'It was difficult to pick a storyline to follow that would tell a congruent story for somebody who hasn't seen the show,' said Joseph DeRocha, senior at C.W. Baker High School.
'At first, the writing was very difficult because we did not know how to go from an office setting to a high school setting, and how to make it work,' said Kamryn Lopez-Smith, senior at C.W. Baker High School.
The students are now hoping to grab the attention of the show's director, Ben Stiller.
'We put a ton of work into this, I think it came out very well, and I definitely think it's deserving of his attention, so fingers crossed, it pulls through,' said Beckwith.
