SA Cup: It's all business in playoff bun fight
Seven teams are still in the running for a semi-finals spot of the SA Cup this weekend, with only two rounds of league action remaining.
However, several of these sides will need help from others to qualify for the playoffs, as all five games in round 8 have an influence on the final standings.
The action kicks off tonight in George, where the SWD Eagles host the defending champion Griquas. Tomorrow, the Boland Kavaliers welcome log-leaders Pumas; the Valke travel to Potchefstroom to take on the Leopards; the Cheetahs host the Border Bulldogs in Bloemfontein; and Eastern Province face the Griffons in Gqeberha.

Jimmy Stonehouse's Pumas are sitting pretty at the top of the standings on a perfect 35 points, three more than Griquas. Both teams are assured of their places in the semis.
The chasing pack of five teams have their work cut out for them. The Cheetahs are third on 27 points, followed by the Kavaliers (25 pts) in fourth, while the Griffons are fifth on the same amount of log points.
The Valke, in sixth on 20 points, can't afford to slip up, while seventh-placed EP (17 pts) have to hope on favours from other teams if they are going to sneak into the top four. The Eagles (eighth, 7 pts), Leopards (ninth, 4 pts) and Border (10th, 2 pts) bring up the rear.

Pirates to announce new captain, while chasing Mother City star
Orlando Pirates have arguably the most testing offseason in the PSL. Not only do the Soweto giants have the complex task of picking Jose Riveiro's successor, a manager with whom they shared three transformative years with, but they're also simultaneously trying to lure top talent that will ensure they don't fall further behind from Mamelodi Sundowns. Fighting for the title is a must for Orlando Pirates, and that requires a ferocious, calm and tactical captain – another current void in their system having released Innocent Maela. Star defender Nkosinathi Sibisi is one of the favourites to take over the reigns. The Buccaneers have restored their interest in January target Jaedin Rhodes, a player Orlando Pirates have long admired. 'One of those reinforcements could be a long-time target, Jaedin Rhodes. Although the 22-year-old has endured an underwhelming season with Cape Town City, he remains a high priority on the Buccaneers' list,' a source said. 'The club [Orlando Pirates] has been met with resistance by City in previous attempts to lure Rhodes to Gauteng, but according to sources, will try once more in the upcoming window. Complicating matters will be the Citizens' peculiar situation.' Meanwhile, the club have signed Baroka FC defender Tshepho Moshiloane. 'We still got to pay Mashiloane until the end of June, but Orlando Pirates have purchased Mashiloane for the coming season, not this season,' Baroka' FC's chairman Khurishi Mphahlele informed iDiski Times . 'But if Pirates want Mashiloane earlier there's no problem we've got an agreement with Pirates. We can always make provision for that, but we are going to pay Mashiloane at the end of June because his contract ends at the end of June and the Pirates contract begins on the first of July. 'From the first of July he is an Orlando Pirates player, until then he's still our player and we pay him.' Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. PSL transfer news: Tau, Moremi, Mthethwa, Mosimane, Nzengeli
From players to coaches, the PSL is expected to welcome a myriad of personnel as clubs prepare for next season. Several star players are poised to arrive in South Africa, which is often the formula needed for a competitive season as the rest of the league tries to dethrone Mamelodi Sundowns, who have won the league title for a record eight consecutive years. Percy Tau has publicly confirmed that he is willing to take a substantial pay cut to join Kaizer Chiefs. However, the club is reluctant to sign more veteran players. has publicly confirmed that he is willing to take a substantial pay cut to join Kaizer Chiefs. Kaizer Chiefs are eyeing Tanzanian baller Maxi Mpia Nzengeli, a player they have tried to sign before. The PSL needs players like Mthethwa, and it appears Kaizer Chiefs feel the same. 'The club has already taken the initiative to keep the midfielder for two more years,' a source said. 'The talks are believed to have started before the end of the season. But apparently things are looking good. It will all now depend on what both parties are looking at. But the talks are open.' Another source confirmed AmaKhosi's intentions, saying, 'Yes, he didn't start well under coach Nasreddine Nabi. We think he didn't understand him. But now they [Kaizer Chiefs] are happy with him and that's why they are offering him a two-year deal.' 'If all goes well and they agree on new terms it will start from next year until June 2028.' Confirmed: When Springboks will cut squad
Earlier this month the Springboks revealed a squad of 55 players as part of an extended training group ahead of the new season, which kicks off with a 'friendly' of sorts against the Barbarians on 28 June. Erasmus named nine uncapped players in his 55-man squad for that clash against the Barbarians, and although it enabled the coach to have a look at a wider group of players, a 'first-choice' squad will soon be named ahead of the July Tests. The Springbok boss confirmed that he would reduce the size of his squad after taking stock of any further injuries suffered in the United Rugby Championship final between the Bulls and Leinster at Croke Park in Dublin on Saturday evening. 'We will wait to see if there are any injuries from the URC final and then announce the group of players on Sunday that will get together next week,' he said. 'That said, it doesn't mean that those players are the only ones who will be in the mix this year. There are players who are returning from injury within the next few weeks and months, and we would definitely like to see some of the players who have been playing well get a chance this season.' With their opening match of the season against the Barbarians a little over two weeks away, Erasmus said the focus in the next two weeks and in the match itself will be to get their own structures in place as they prepare for a challenging international season. 'It's difficult to plan around the Barbarians because they are a team consisting of players from many different countries, so our focus in that match will be our game and what we want to achieve,' he said. 'It will serve as a good opportunity for the players who have returned from Japan to get back into the swing of things, and perhaps to give a few players who have not played Test rugby a feel of what it is to play at this level.'
