Dundee United's spirit in Vienna means plenty to Jim Goodwin
The Australian earlier created a first-half equaliser for a United side who saw Isaac Pappoe carried off on a stretcher with a knee problem early in the game after being hit with bad news about the hamstring injuries of Ryan Strain and Kristijan Trapanovski in the build-up to the game.
United survived some late scares – including a disallowed goal in stoppage-time – to keep the tie level against Rapid, who reached the quarter-finals of the same tournament last season.
Goodwin told BBC Scotland: 'It was very nervy at the end. The team was running on empty.
'Given the situation with the squad, we don't have the options available to us to freshen things up, but I thought it was a really gutsy performance from the team.
'We showed real courage and togetherness within the group to just put bodies on the line and try and take a positive result back to Dundee with us.
'It was a really enjoyable performance, I really enjoyed the occasion. The Dundee United supporters were excellent and I'm pleased we were able to put on a performance they can be proud of.'

The forward won his side a penalty in their Conference League defeat at Tannadice on Thursday night but strained an ankle ligament in the been replaced by Amar Fatah in the squad for Sunday's League Cup game against Kilmarnock, manager Jim Goodwin confirmed the extent of Sapsford's injury. "Fatah is in the team today because of the injury to Zac Sapsford that he picked up in the build-up to the penalty where he got wiped out," Goodwin said. "That's a major disappointment for us because he's been a real key player for us up until now."It's a strained ankle ligament injury so those types of injuries can take anything from two to four weeks. Manchester United vs Arsenal: Lineups and latest Premier League updates
2:44PM The new pop up pub is doing a good trade United home this area behind the Stretford End can become like a fanzone at tournaments. Not sure how many pints fans need to drink to raise the funds for Carlos Baleba, but they will have fun trying. It looks a well received initiative, with fans decked out in new gear and excited for the season. When the electric heaters are broken in November amid a run of one win in five, we'll see. 2:40PM Fancy a bet? Advertisement | GambleAware | 18+ Betting on the football today? Take a look at these best betting sites chosen by Telegraph Media Group. 2:36PM Read Jamie Carragher's column on Amorim, United and Arsenal Arteta, meanwhile, finds himself in the same territory as a year ago, with the demand to make the final step from second to first intensifying. For Arsenal, it feels like any early setback has the potential to cause an implosion as the frustrations of the past few years spill over. The immediate expectation upon Arteta is to prove he can be a Premier League winner; the immediate expectation upon Amorim is to prove he is a Premier League-standard manager. 2:32PM 2:30PM Amorim and Arteta under the microscope for different reasons Good afternoon and welcome to our live coverage of Manchester United vs Arsenal, a Premier League opening weekend fixture neither club would have chosen but neutrals will welcome. That said, both league meetings between Ruben Amorim and Mikel Arteta's teams last season were fairly drab contests with both clubs focused on European commitments. Arsenal claimed four points, but had David Raya to thank for scraping a draw at Old Trafford while United dumped them out of the FA Cup on penalties. Amorim adopted a conservative approach to those games, defending deep in a 5-4-1 with Arsenal struggling to create much from open play. With the summer additions of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, United should be more menacing in attack and there is surely an onus on them to demonstrate progress with a more expansive plan. That carries a risk though, with Arsenal's signings Viktor Gyokeres (a former Amorim player at Sporting) and Noni Madueke offering greater running power and speed in transition. The north London club signed off pre-season with a 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, where Martin Zubimendi was very impressive at the heart of midfield. Sesko was linked with Arsenal repeatedly, so the fortunes of the two centre-forwards promises to be one of the theme's of the game even if neither is certain to start. Sesko was a late arrival while Arteta loves to pick Kai Havertz in the biggest matches. Both squads look stronger than the second half of last season, but even the most one-eyed United fans are realistic enough to know the teams have different aspirations. There is pressure on Arteta and Arsenal to get over the line and win the title, while United need to convince people they are a coherent team who can challenge for Europe.
