Dundee United's spirit in Vienna means plenty to Jim Goodwin
The Australian earlier created a first-half equaliser for a United side who saw Isaac Pappoe carried off on a stretcher with a knee problem early in the game after being hit with bad news about the hamstring injuries of Ryan Strain and Kristijan Trapanovski in the build-up to the game.
United survived some late scares – including a disallowed goal in stoppage-time – to keep the tie level against Rapid, who reached the quarter-finals of the same tournament last season.
Goodwin told BBC Scotland: 'It was very nervy at the end. The team was running on empty.
'Given the situation with the squad, we don't have the options available to us to freshen things up, but I thought it was a really gutsy performance from the team.
'We showed real courage and togetherness within the group to just put bodies on the line and try and take a positive result back to Dundee with us.
'It was a really enjoyable performance, I really enjoyed the occasion. The Dundee United supporters were excellent and I'm pleased we were able to put on a performance they can be proud of.'

United striker Sapsford facing up to four weeks out
Dundee United striker Zac Sapsford is facing up to four weeks on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury against Rapid Vienna. The forward won his side a penalty in their Conference League defeat at Tannadice on Thursday night but strained an ankle ligament in the been replaced by Amar Fatah in the squad for Sunday's League Cup game against Kilmarnock, manager Jim Goodwin confirmed the extent of Sapsford's injury. "Fatah is in the team today because of the injury to Zac Sapsford that he picked up in the build-up to the penalty where he got wiped out," Goodwin said. "That's a major disappointment for us because he's been a real key player for us up until now."It's a strained ankle ligament injury so those types of injuries can take anything from two to four weeks. "He's a young lad, he'll heal quickly. Majorly disappointed not to have him in a really important game today."

The north London club signed off pre-season with a 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao, where Martin Zubimendi was very impressive at the heart of midfield. Sesko was linked with Arsenal repeatedly, so the fortunes of the two centre-forwards promises to be one of the theme's of the game even if neither is certain to start. Sesko was a late arrival while Arteta loves to pick Kai Havertz in the biggest matches. Both squads look stronger than the second half of last season, but even the most one-eyed United fans are realistic enough to know the teams have different aspirations. There is pressure on Arteta and Arsenal to get over the line and win the title, while United need to convince people they are a coherent team who can challenge for Europe.
