Elon Musk discusses human evolution and energy needs: ‘What I'm saying is…'

Elon Musk
has shared his perspective regarding the immense
energy harnessing
potential that could become available to advanced civilizations in the long term. His contemplation of future energy needs is particularly relevant as the rapid growth of technology today is fueling a constantly rising demand for energy to operate vast digital and physical systems.
Musk, on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), made a reference to the theoretical
Kardashev Scale
, introduced by
Nikolai Kardashev
in 1964.
What is Kardashev Scale that Elon Musk is talking about
The Kardashev Scale classifies civilisations by energy use. A
Type I civilization
can harness all the energy available on its home planet, a Type II can harness all the energy of its star, and a Type III can harness all the energy of its galaxy.

In his post, Musk projected significant increases in energy harnessing as humanity progresses along this scale. He stated that as we approach a Type I civilization level on Earth, "energy harnessed on Earth will increase a hundredfold and will mostly be solar aka fusion aka starlight."
'Then energy harnessed will increase perhaps a billionfold if we make it to Kardashev II, with space solar power, and another billionfold if we harness the energy of our galaxy,' Musk added.
'What I'm saying is that there is a lot of upside potential!!!' he explained.
Musk, who is also the founder of
SpaceX
, often discusses themes related to the long-term future of human civilisation, space exploration, and technological advancement, framing energy harnessing on a cosmic scale as a key aspect of future progress.
He has been a staunch supporter of establishing human colonies on Mars and has said that humans will soon be able to travel to the Red Planet.

Tesla Shares Crash By Nearly 10% Amid War Of Words Between Elon Musk, Donald Trump

Last Updated: Tesla Shares Crash By Nearly 10% Amid War Of Words Between Elon Musk, Donald Trump Shares of Tesla slid more than 8% on Thursday after US President Donald Trump and CEO Elon Musk traded barbs over the White House's $4 trillion spending and tax bill. Trump expressed disappointment with Musk's criticism of the legislation while Tesla boss accused the US president of 'ingratitude". The feud between the close allies began over Trump's 'big, beautiful bill", which Musk called a 'disgusting abomination", sparking a rift between the two. As Musk's criticism grew, Trump made his frustration apparent today. The Tesla boss took to X to call on Americans to contact their lawmakers, writing, 'Call your Senator, Call your Congressman, Bankrupting America is NOT ok! KILL the BILL." Responding to Musk's sharp criticism, Trump said, 'Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore. I was surprised." Trump alleged that Musk was upset because the bill takes away tax benefits for electric vehicle purchases, while investors feared their souring relationship could hurt Musk's sprawling business empire. 'Whatever," Musk fired back as the president spoke. 'Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate," he posted on X. Earlier this week, Musk warned, 'America is in the fast lane to debt slavery. A new spending bill should be drafted that doesn't massively grow the deficit and increase the debt ceiling by 5 TRILLION DOLLARS." The fall in shares comes after the EV maker saw a 22% rally in May despite weak sales numbers, with Musk wrapping up his time as head of Trump's so-called Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE. Shares are down 12% this week as Musk has spoken out about the budget bill. This year, shares are down more than 20% and well off the high of $488.54 reached December 18. Tesla shares fall 8%: Investors rattled after Musk criticises Trump's tax bill; spat turns ugly

Tesla shares plunged over 8% on Thursday as tensions between US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk escalated, leaving investors concerned about the future of Musk's vast business empire. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The sharp decline was triggered instead by a bitter public spat between the two high-profile figures. Musk criticised the president's recent tax bill, describing it on his social media platform X as a 'disgusting abomination' that undermines cost-cutting efforts led by the department of government efficiency (DOGE), a team Musk has been closely involved with. Trump retaliated by suggesting Musk's anger stemmed from the bill's removal of tax incentives for electric vehicle (EV) purchases, accusing Musk of souring their previously friendly relationship. 'Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don't know if we will anymore,' Trump said, quoted by Reuters. 'He said the most beautiful things about me. And he hasn't said bad about me personally. That'll be next. But I'm very disappointed." Musk, who is also the largest Republican donor in the 2024 election campaign, has been gradually distancing himself from White House activities, focusing more on his companies after facing backlash and protests related to Tesla. The fallout has impacted Tesla's sales in key markets including Europe, China and California, despite growing overall demand for EVs. 'Elon's politics continue to harm the stock. First he aligned himself with Trump which upset many potential Democratic buyers. Now he has turned on the Trump administration,' said Tesla shareholder Dennis Dick, chief strategist at Stock Trader Network. Beyond Tesla, Musk's other ventures such as SpaceX and Starlink, dominant players in commercial launches and satellite internet, have also come under scrutiny due to his political entanglements. This volatility followed a roller-coaster ride after Musk endorsed Trump in July 2024, when the stock surged 169% before tumbling 54% amid a wave of protests and market uncertainty. Despite the turmoil, Tesla remains the world's most valuable automaker, valued at around $1 trillion — far ahead of Toyota's $290 billion market cap. However, its shares now trade at a staggering 140 times projected profits, a steep premium compared to other tech giants such as Nvidia. Tesla shares are down 22% so far this year, reflecting investor jitters over the company's political entanglements and looming regulatory changes that threaten its bottom line.

‘Such ingratitude': Musk says Trump would have lost elections without him

Elon Musk has sharply escalated his war of words with US President Donald Trump, claiming in a series of posts on X that 'without me, Trump would have lost the election'. Musk said Democrats would have taken control of the House and Republicans would be '51-49 in the Senate' without his backing, adding bluntly: 'Such ingratitude.' The remarks follow Trump's recent swipe, saying he was 'very disappointed' in Musk and that he had 'helped Elon out a lot.' The fallout began after Musk publicly slammed Trump's massive tax and spending bill as a 'disgusting abomination,' after exiting his role as DOGE chief. Such ingratitude — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025 Trump responded by claiming Musk had full knowledge of the bill and 'never had a problem with it' until after it passed, hinting that the world's richest man's criticism came due to the cut in EV subsidies. Trump also suggested that Musk opposed his domestic policy bill for self-interested reasons rather than Musk's stated reason that the bill blows out the deficit and cancels out the savings Musk achieved through his cuts. Musk's rebuttal was swift: 'False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!' In the weeks prior to his DOGE exit, Musk's once-robust relationship with Trump started crumbling amid growing policy clash. Musk on Tuesday strongly criticised the major tax and spending bill backed by Trump, calling it a 'disgusting abomination' in a post on X. Musk's comments come as Trump urges Senate Republicans to pass the legislation, which he has called the 'big, beautiful bill'. The bill has already been approved by the House of Representatives. 'I'm sorry, but I just can't stand it anymore,' Musk wrote . 'This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.'
