Son of a PGA Tour winner, Canadian teen and investment banker qualify for RBC Canadian Open
The 29-year-old son of three-time PGA Tour winner and former U.S. Ryder Cupper Chris DiMarco, carded five birdies and two bogeys and shot 3-under 68 at The Pulpit Club on Sunday to take medalist honors at the RBC Canadian Open qualifier. In doing so, he earned one of four open spots into the field of 156 and secured his first start at a PGA Tour event. DiMarco, who played his college golf at University of South Florida and remains a Tampa resident, previously played on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica in 2019 and 2022, making just one cut each year, and PGA Tour Canada in 2023, where he also managed to make just one cut in five starts. But he recently Monday qualified for the KFT's AdventHealth Championship and made the cut, finishing T-45.
A southpaw who putts right-handed, DiMarco earned a spot in the field at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley (North Course) in Caledon, Ontario. DiMarco's father, 56, who lost to Tiger Woods in a playoff at the 2005 Masters and to Vijay Singh at the 2004 PGA Championship, played in the RBC Canadian Open 17 times, including recording a T-9 in 1998.
Yi Cao and Josh Goldenberg both made five birdies and three bogeys and tied for second at 2-under 69. Like DiMarco, Goldenberg had never made a start even in a KFT event and started a job in March at investment bank Goldman Sachs. But with the qualifier being held on Sunday, he decided to give it a go. 'A dream come true,' he told Moday Q Info's Ryan French.
Eighteen-year-old Canadian amateur Matthew Javier, a Team Canada NextGen member, overcame a double bogey to shoot 70 and won a two-for-one playoff for the final spot over Toronto's Mark Hoffman.

The RBC Canadian Open begins on Thursday. Robert MacIntyre is the defending champion.

Kurt Kitayama's three-shot victory Sunday at the 3M Open marked his second career PGA Tour win. It was his first alongside his older brother, Daniel. Daniel Kitayama, who has caddied off and on for his brother over the years, picked up the bag for the first time this season at last week's Barracuda Championship, which was Kurt's first event after splitting with his previous caddie, Tim Tucker. And as Tucker worked spot duty for his old boss, Bryson DeChambeau, at this week's LIV U.K. event, Daniel was looping a second straight week for little bro. 'You know, the caddie change wasn't my choice actually,' Kitayama said Sunday evening, 'and so I had to find someone that I knew, I had to find someone that I trusted, and my brother's been on the bag before. We won twice in Europe. He's always been around me at tournaments and whenever he can, so I figured that was going to be the best fit to finish the season.' Kurt Kitayama was T-4 at the John Deere Classic, his last tournament with Tucker on the bag, before tying for 14th in Tahoe. Tucker was filling in for DeChambeau's regular caddie, Greg Bodine, and told Golfweek that after this week, 'I will see what opportunities there are in the caddie world.' DeChambeau was T-11 on Sunday. Said Kurt of Daniel: 'He helped me stay calm out there, make good decisions, and yeah, just helps having family on the bag.' Kitayama's win moved him to No. 53 in FedExCup points, so with one regular-season tournament left, he's guaranteed to qualify for the playoff opener, the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.

BLAINE, Minn. (AP) — Kurt Kitayama finished a sizzling weekend with a 6-under 65 to win the 3M Open on Sunday by one shot over Sam Stevens for his second PGA Tour victory. Kitayama, who tied the tournament record with a career-best 60 on Saturday to enter the final round within one of the lead, birdied six of the first eight holes to take control on a 91-degree afternoon at the TPC Twin Cities. Kitayama led by one playing the par-5 18th when he hit 5-iron onto the back slope of a bunker. He blasted out to about 18 feet and took two putts for par to finish at 23-under 261. Matt Wallace, David Lipsky, Pierceson Coody and Jake Knapp tied for third, three strokes back. Kitayama, whose only other PGA Tour win was the Arnold Palmer Invitational in 2023, moved to No. 53 in the FedEx Cup with one week remaining for the top 70 to qualify for the postseason. He also earned a two-year exemption and a spot in the Masters next year.
