MADANI Communities need to understand 3R issues, tackle slander, fake news
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said to realise this, MADANI Communities - multiracial volunteer bodies managed by the Information Department (Japen) - are reminded to verify information before spreading it publicly, and to play their role as proper delivery channels.
'Don't normalise, copy information and then spread without verifying beforehand. Spreading fake news can land you in prison, spreading untrue things can result in hefty fines, so we have to issue reminders.
'Tell the public not to be easily deceived by information they get, we want to spread what's true,' he said during the 2025 Sabah Zone Series 1 MADANI Community Retreat Programme Discussion Session here today.
Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Japen director-general Julina Johan, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj and Sabah Japen director Jainisah Mohd Noor also attended the session, along with about 500 participants from 109 MADANI Communities throughout Sabah.
Fahmi also reminded everyone to be careful with the newest tactics of using links that look like wedding invitations employed by scammers.
'There are individuals who sent links that seem to be their children's banquet invitation, but when I asked for the screenshot of the invitation, they asked me to click the link.
'I have asked the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to look for the individual, and they immediately deleted the link... so I advise everyone to please be cautious, scammers are very shrewd,' he added.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has requested to remove nearly 38,000 false contents and 8,000 posts related to race, religion and royalty (3R) from social media platforms in a three year period. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said th ministry takes the issue of the spread of false information on social media seriously, especially when it involves attempts to manipulate sentiments related to the race, religion, and royalty (3R) by irresponsible parties, including political troll accounts. "From Jan 1, 2022 to July 1, 2025, a total of 7,846 3R-related contents and 37,845 false contents were removed by platform providers at MCMC's request under Section 233 (for improper use of network facilities or services) of the Communications and Multimedia Act. "Each removal action is carried out based on existing legislation, regardless of the political background or beliefs of the individual, to ensure that freedom of speech is not abused. "The final assessment is also subject to the platform providers according to their community guidelines," he said in a written reply to Kampar member of Parliament Chong Zhemin. He said the MCMC works closely with the police to enforce the Communications and Multimedia Act and other existing laws. "Action can be taken against any individual under Section 233 under the Communications and Multimedia Act who misuses application services, including social media, to create and disseminate false or extremely offensive content with the intent, among others, to hurt, harass, or disturb others. "To further strengthen online safety, Fahmi said MCMC had introduced licensing requirements for internet messaging and social media service providers to obtain the Application Service Provider Class License, effective Jan 1, 2025," he said. Fahmi also said to mitigate online harms, service providers are encouraged to adopt the Code of Conduct (Best Practices) for Internet Messaging and Social Media Service Providers, which was issued by MCMC on Dec 20, 2024.

Fahmi Prays For Rafizi's Son Swift Recovery
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has prayed for the speedy recovery of the son of former Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who was assaulted at a shopping mall this afternoon. In a post on X, Fahmi, who is also PKR Information Chief, expressed sadness, shock and anger over the news. 'As a father with children around the same age as Rafizi Ramli's son, I am also deeply concerned about my family's safety. 'I pray for Ben's speedy recovery, may Allah grant safety to Rafizi and his family, and may the attackers be swiftly apprehended and brought to justice,' he said. Earlier, Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the assault on the boy is believed to have occurred at 2 pm at the mall's pick-up and drop-off area while he was with his mother and their driver. Meanwhile, Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister and PKR secretary-general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said in a statement that PKR strongly condemns the assault on the Pandan MP's son, urging authorities to take immediate and firm action to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety and protection of all citizens, especially children. 'I pray for his son's full and speedy recovery, and that his family remains strong in facing this ordeal. Children must never be made victims under any circumstances. Such actions are cruel, inhumane, and must be strongly condemned by all,' said Fuziah. Ex-head of civil division in AGC among 23 individuals appointed Judicial Commissioners
PUTRAJAYA: Former head of the Civil Division in the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC), Datuk Donald Joseph Franklin, was among 23 individuals appointed as Judicial Commissioners (JC) on Wednesday (Aug 13). Also appointed was Kumar, the lawyer who previously defended former chief inspector Azilah Hadri, one of two individuals convicted of the 2006 murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu. Kuldeep, 55, was also involved in Azilah's review application last year to commute his death sentence to a 40-year prison term. Meanwhile, Donald, 59, had previously held various posts, including deputy head of the Research Division and deputy head of Division I of the Civil Division in the AGC, before he was appointed as head of the Civil Division. Others included Datin Asmah Musa, head of the Trials Unit in the AGC's Appellate and Trials Division; former Malaysian Bar president (2019 and 2020) Datuk Abdul Fareed Gafoor and deputy head II of the prosecution division at the AGC, Syed Faisal Syed Amir. A total of 13 lawyers, including Kuldeep and Abdul Fareed, were appointed as Judicial Commissioners. They are Isa Aziz Ibrahim, Dr Seow Hock Peng, Shahriza Zalina Abdul Shukor, Helmi Hamzah, Rajes Raghavji, Datuk Mohd Aimi Zaini Mohd Azhar, Samry Masri, Moh Kok Wai, Shamsul Bahrin Abdul Manaf, Datuk Muhammad Adam @ Edward Abdullah and Avinder Singh Gill.
