Mexico star Ovalle reportedly heading for Orlando Pride in world-record transfer
Reports out of Mexico on Monday stated that the 25-year-old was heading to the NWSL champions in a deal worth as much as $2 million.
That would smash the current world record of £1 million ($1.3m), which was set when Canada international Olivia Smith joined Arsenal from Liverpool last month.
ESPN later reported that Ovalle was joining for a fee of $1.5m, which would still be a world record.
According to AS Mexico, Orlando managed to outbid the Washington Spirit and Barcelona to secure Ovalle's services.
Ovalle has spent her entire career with Tigres, where she has won six Liga MX Femenil titles. She is the club's all-time leading scorer with 136 goals.
The midfielder went viral earlier this year after she scored an absurd reverse scorpion kick that many have tipped as a Puskás Award candidate.
Ovalle has earned more than 50 caps with Mexico, scoring a memorable goal against the U.S. women's national team in a 2-0 win in last year's W Gold Cup.
The midfielder will be a major boost for a Pride side that has faltered some in 2025 after winning a NWSL Shield and NWSL championship double last year.
Orlando is currently third in the NWSL table with a 8W-4D-4L record, 12 points back of first-place Kansas City.

With Lionel Messi out, Luis Suarez's 2 goals lifts Inter Miami over Tigres UANL
Luis Suarez scored twice on penalty kicks and Inter Miami overcame Lionel Messi's absence to beat Tigres UANL from Mexico 2-1 in a Leagues Cup quarterfinal Wednesday night. After leading his team to victory over the LA Galaxy, Messi did not train ahead of the game Wednesday. Suarez converted his first penalty after Jordi Alba's cross hit the arm of sliding Tigres defender Javier Aquino. Angel Correa scored for Tigres, slicing through the defense for the equalizer. Then, the ball once again hit Aquino's arm in the box and Suarez scored the winner from the penalty spot. A late header from Tigres' Edgar Lopez ricocheted off both posts. Miami coach Javier Mascherano was given a red card before the second half began. Mascherano was seen talking on the phone and giving instructions after being sent off, which is prohibited per Leagues Cup rules. Inter Miami's Jordi Alba left early in the second half after hurting his lower leg in a collision late in the first half. Reporting by The Associated Press. Suarez scores twice, Inter Miami overcomes Messi's absence to beat Tigres 2-1 in Leagues Cup
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Luis Suarez scored twice on penalty kicks and Inter Miami overcame Lionel Messi's absence to beat Tigres UANL from Mexico 2-1 in a Leagues Cup quarterfinal Wednesday night. After leading his team to victory over the LA Galaxy, Messi did not train ahead of the game Wednesday. 'We all go off what Messi is feeling. Today, Javier (Mascherano) spoke with him and he wasn't feeling the best. We preferred to not risk him and take a step back,' Inter Miami assistant coach Javier Morales told reporters postgame. Suarez converted his first penalty after Jordi Alba's cross hit the arm of sliding Tigres defender Javier Aquino. Ángel Correa scored for Tigres, slicing through the defense for the equalizer. Then, the ball once again hit Aquino's arm in the box and Suarez scored the winner from the penalty spot. A late header from Tigres' Edgar Lopez ricocheted off both posts. Mascherano was given a red card before the second half began. Mascherano was seen talking on the phone and giving instructions after being sent off, which is prohibited per Leagues Cup rules. 'We were complaining about the time. They said four minutes (off added time) and we ended up playing like six,' Morales said. 'I didn't see what was going on. To be honest, a lot of things happened on the bench,' Morales said when asked about Mascherano giving instructions by phone. Inter Miami's Jordi Alba left early in the second half after hurting his lower leg in a collision late in the first half. 'We don't have the medical report yet, but from what I understand, he took a hit to the knee.' ___

Suárez proves age can't stop him with match-winning performance
By Ravi Kumar Jha Published on August 21, 2025, 10:09 IST Luis Suárez continues to defy age and expectations with a sensational run of form for Inter Miami, proving that class is indeed permanent. The 38-year-old striker bagged a brace against Tigres in the League Cup, adding yet another chapter to his remarkable career in the United States. Suárez's performance was more than just two goals—it was a statement. Despite nearing 40, the Uruguayan remains one of the deadliest forwards on the pitch, showcasing his sharp instincts, intelligent movement, and clinical finishing. The veteran now boasts six goal contributions in his last four games for Miami, underlining his importance to the squad. With Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets alongside him, Suárez has found a system that plays to his strengths, and he is thriving. So far this season, the numbers speak for themselves: 20 goal contributions in 24 matches. For any striker, that would be impressive. For a player in the twilight of his career, it is nothing short of extraordinary. Suárez's ability to adapt his game has been key to his longevity. No longer relying purely on pace, he uses experience, positioning, and raw finishing ability to devastating effect.
