NFL on the verge of selling media assets to ESPN for an equity stake in the network, AP source says
The NFL and ESPN are expected to announce an agreement next week under which most of the league's significant media holdings will go to the sports network. People familiar with the transaction said the multibillion-dollar deal would give the NFL an equity stake in ESPN. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been finalized. It was first reported by The Athletic. The NFL and ESPN had no comment. The NFL has been trying to sell its media properties for nearly five years. ESPN and the league have been involved in on-again, off-again talks for the past three years. The proposed move comes as ESPN is expected to soon launch its direct-to-consumer service, likely before the end of August. The service would give cord cutters access to all of ESPN's programs and networks for $29.99 per month. Most cable, satellite and viewers who have streaming services will receive the service for free as part of their subscription. ESPN would get access to the popular RedZone channel, as well as NFL Network and an additional seven regular-season games (six international and a Saturday afternoon late-season contest). A couple of weeks ago, ESPN announced that NFL Network host Rich Eisen's three-hour program would air on ESPN Radio as well as stream on Disney+ and ESPN+. 'The Rich Eisen Show' is not affiliated with NFL Network. ESPN has carried NFL games since 1987 and 'Monday Night Football' since 2006. Under the current TV contract, it will have the 2027 and 2031 Super Bowls for the first time. NFL Network started in November 2003 and was the second major pro league to have its own network. NBA TV started in 1999, MLB Network in 2009 and NHL Network in the United States in 2007. ___ AP NFL:

Gildan Activewear Inc (GIL) Q2 2025 Earnings Call Highlights: Record Sales and Strategic Growth ...
Release Date: July 31, 2025 For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript. Positive Points Gildan Activewear Inc (NYSE:GIL) reported record second quarter sales of $919 million, up 6.5% year-over-year, driven by strong activewear sales growth of 12%. The company achieved a record adjusted diluted EPS of $0.97, marking a 31% increase year-over-year, reflecting a focus on profitable growth. Gildan Activewear Inc (NYSE:GIL) continues to gain market share in key growth categories, supported by strong demand for existing brands and new brand offerings. The company's Bangladesh facility is fully ramped up, contributing to operational efficiency and cost advantages. Gildan Activewear Inc (NYSE:GIL) has been recognized for its commitment to sustainable practices, being named one of Canada's best 50 corporate citizens and featured among Time's world's most sustainable companies. Negative Points International sales were down by 14% year-over-year due to moderated demand in Europe and persistent softness in Asia. Hosiery and underwear sales decreased by 23% compared to the prior year, impacted by broad-based market demand softness and program resets. Operating cash flow decreased to $46 million in the first half of 2025 from $113 million in the first half of 2024, primarily due to higher working capital investments. The company faces challenges from tariffs, although it has implemented pricing actions to mitigate the impact. There is ongoing uncertainty in the macroeconomic environment, which could affect future performance and market conditions. Q & A Highlights Warning! GuruFocus has detected 5 Warning Sign with ELMTY. Q: Can you quantify the shifts in sales from Q3 to Q4 and discuss the impact on the underwear and hosiery business, including the Nike sock pause and the exit from Under Armour? A: (CFO) The second quarter was strong, with activewear sales up 12% year over year. Some sales shifted from Q3 to Q4 due to pricing actions. We expect mid-single-digit growth when combining Q2 and Q3. The underwear and hosiery segment faced headwinds like delayed store sets and market softness, but we anticipate improvement throughout the year. The shifts are not structural and should resolve over time. Q: What changes in the industry landscape are driving momentum in the activewear business, and what opportunities do you see going forward? A: (COO) The industry is experiencing changes due to tariffs and economic conditions, leading customers to seek stable suppliers. Our vertically integrated manufacturing provides stability. We are gaining market share in key categories like ringspun and Comfort Colors. Our US cotton and yarn content offer a competitive advantage against tariffs, and we are adding capacity in Central America to capitalize on future opportunities. Q: How much can you increase throughput in Honduras, and what is the timing and magnitude of this opportunity? A: (CEO) We are adding capacity within existing facilities, expecting a 10% increase overall. This expansion will be completed this year, allowing us to handle future demand and take advantage of tariff-related opportunities. Q: Is the Bangladesh facility running at optimal efficiency, and how do you view its cost savings in various tariff scenarios? A: (CEO) The Bangladesh facility is fully ramped up, contributing to operating margin expansion. We are using US cotton to offset tariff impacts and have flexibility in our supply chain to mitigate tariffs. We are well-positioned to leverage our low-cost manufacturing and innovation pipeline. Q: Can you expand on the pricing actions taken in response to tariff pressures and how competitors have responded? A: (CEO) Pricing varies by customer and product category, with sequential rollouts. The impact is not substantial due to our cost structure. Competitors face similar issues, and we have a competitive advantage with our vertically integrated manufacturing. Price increases are minimal compared to the overall value chain, and we are well-positioned to navigate these challenges. Riot Rides Bitcoin To Profit, But Market Frets Over Slow Data Center Growth
Riot Platforms, Inc. (NASDAQ:RIOT) shares are trading lower on Friday. Riot reported second-quarter revenue of $152.99 million, beating analyst estimates of $147.65 million. The firm reported second-quarter earnings of 57 cents per share, beating estimates for a loss of 10 cents per the earnings release, JP Morgan analyst Reginald L. Smith reiterated the Neutral rating on the company. Smith notes that Riot's second-quarter results were largely in line with JP Morgan's expectations, with a modest sequential dip in revenue and cash operating profit due to seasonal curtailment that reduced bitcoin output. During the earnings call, management highlighted their long-term strategy to monetize Riot's power infrastructure through high-performance computing (HPC) data centers, starting with 600 MW at the upcoming Corsicana site set to launch in 2026. In the short term, Riot intends to continue leveraging its energy assets primarily for bitcoin mining while gradually preparing its 1.8 GW portfolio to cater to HPC clients. Smith believes Riot's infrastructure is well-positioned to support low-latency HPC workloads and sees promise in recent team expansions and site upgrades. However, he cautions that investors awaiting near-term colocation deals may need to stay patient, as Riot was relatively late to embrace the HPC model and such agreements typically require over nine months to finalize. Smith observes that management continues to see robust interest in power from hyperscalers, especially in key markets like Dallas, and is actively in discussions with potential partners. Riot's top focus is securing a tenant for its planned 600 MW build-to-suit data center at the Corsicana site, with 400 MW expected to be available in the first half of 2026 and the remaining 200 MW in the second half. The company has also made site-specific upgrades to support high-performance computing needs, including acquiring adjacent land and obtaining approval for a new water line. Smith notes that location is a key factor for hyperscalers evaluating new data center builds, and he believes Riot is well-positioned to meet the requirements of large-scale, low-latency HPC operations. However, since Riot only began seriously pursuing the HPC strategy in late 2024 and such deals typically require nine months or more to finalize, Smith does not anticipate a near-term colocation announcement.
