Dispersal order in place to stop illegal car meet
Bedfordshire Police said the action had been taken to stop antisocial behaviour after a meeting was posted online, with the order covering the Woodside Link in Houghton Regis and the A6 Barton-le-Clay bypass.
It would be in place until 20:00 BST on Sunday.
The force said there would be a "heightened police presence within Bedfordshire, as well as coordination with local CCTV operators, to deal with those who wish to cause unnecessary disruption".
It comes after there were calls for speed cameras to be installed in the area to deter car meets.
The force said: "If any vehicles are used in a manner causing alarm, distress, annoyance to members of the public or likely to endanger the safety to members of the public, we will deal with the driver/car accordingly and robustly."
Dispersal orders give officers the power to order a group of two or more people to leave an area if they are suspected of committing, or likely to commit, a criminal offence or antisocial behaviour.

Memphis public safety leaders report crime reduction progress at forum
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Public safety leaders addressed crime in Memphis at a forum Tuesday night at the Hickory Hill Community Center. The forum was hosted by tri-state defenders in hopes to inform the community and allow questions to be asked to public safety leaders. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, between 2023 to 2024, crime was down in Tennessee by 19% — despite 250 murders in Memphis. But the Memphis Shelby County Crime Commission said the city is still making progress. Police Chief Davis said major crime comes from domestic violence and gang-related activity. The chief said in most crimes it's between people who know each other. 'Our backup in intake, right now, of this morning, we had 165 intake,' said Sheriff Floyd Bonner of the Shelby County Sheriff's Office when asked how are they taking accountability. Sheriff Bonner said his office is stretched thin because they are taking in about 60 to 70 inmates a day. At 201 Poplar there are nearly 2,800 men which is overcapacity. The Jail East has 335 women and 84 people in juvenile detention. 'We try to help them get their GED, we partner with non-profits like 'The Final Escape', who also helps people with GEDs,' said Sheriff Bonner. 'In other words, ladies and gentlemen, we're trying to make a better person.' 'That means being willing to cooperate with law enforcement in a robust way, that means providing tips, it means reporting crimes, it means being able to serve as witnesses,' said Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy. Woman killed in apartment fire in Pittsburgh's Brighton Heights neighborhood
A woman is dead after a fire at an apartment in Pittsburgh's Brighton Heights neighborhood on Tuesday. Pittsburgh Public Safety said firefighters responded to a fire at Riverview Manor on Letort Street at 8:15 p.m. Officials say a woman was pulled from a unit in cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene. A man also suffered a wrist laceration, Public Safety said. Emergency management officials have been called in to work with building management and help find temporary accommodations for any displaced residents. There's been no word on the cause, but Public Safety said fire investigators are looking into it.
