The new entry in the "Jurassic World" franchise has brought in some heavy hitters. On top of A-list talent leading the cast like Scarlett Johansson and
Mahershala Ali, the new franchise chapter, also boasts action director Gareth Edwards.

The film takes a dramatic turn into showcasing an island where more experimental dinosaurs live.
The initial trailers not only showcased these new dinosaurs, but the internet was set ablaze by a giant T Rex that looked like it had been mashed together with a Xenomorph from the "Aliens" franchise.
Either way, the new film is set for a theatrical release on July 2, and the early reviews are starting to pour in.

"#JurassicWorldRebirth had a solid concept—mutated dinosaurs on a new island. I was intrigued. But the movie just feels blah. It's a string of forgettable scenes that go nowhere. One river sequence stood out, but the rest blurs together. The characters are dull, there's zero chemistry, and I found myself rooting for the dinosaurs just to feel something. The story plays out like a studio checklist—nothing gets explored, and there's no heart in it. Some of the dino designs bring back that old monster-movie vibe, but the film barely uses them. It just ends, with no momentum, no setup, and no excitement for where this franchise is headed. It's not as awful as the last few, but still feels empty."

#JurassicWorldRebirth is a winner! Gareth Edwards knew just how to bring a Jurassic story to screen. I adore the practical movie magic of the original film. "#JurassicWorldRebirth is a winner! Gareth Edwards knew just how to bring a Jurassic story to screen. I adore the practical movie magic of the original film. Over the years, the franchise has embraced more CGI. Rebirth is indeed loaded with effects-heavy set pieces, but those digital elements work especially well here because Edwards knew exactly how to ensure the film still had that reach-out-and-touch-it texture — particularly by choosing to film in real locations and shoot the movie on film."
I've just watched Jurassic World Rebirth, and I have 2 things to say:
1) It's not good
2) Scarlett Johansson has never looked better — Seth (@sethsfilmreview) June 19, 2025
Seth has a far simpler review:
"I've just watched Jurassic World Rebirth, and I have 2 things to say:
1) It's not good
2) Scarlett Johansson has never looked better."
#JurassicWorldRebirth is a fantastic addition to the franchise, delivering everything you want and MORE! From the action to the cinematography, Gareth Edwards knows how to craft a great dinosaur movie. This one captures the spirit of the originals and pulls you right back in. pic.twitter.com/LJ9D1cQMMQ — Draven (@DravenReacts) June 19, 2025

One thing is certain from the early reviews, they all seem to be down the middle in terms of showcasing critics that absolutely loved the entry, or those who simply did not care for it.
"Jurassic World: Rebirth" being made was not a shock at all, considering the last three entries made well over $3 billion at the box office collectively. However, time will tell if the franchise will continue.

First Reactions to ‘Jurassic World Rebirth' Are Chaotically All Over the Place

Universal Pictures' Jurassic World Rebirth has finally screened for critics and pop culture commentators, and the first reactions are in. The Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey-starring franchise installment aims to revitalize the series since the release of Jurassic World: Dominion in 2022. Director Gareth Edwards teams up with original Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp for Jurassic World Rebirth. The film serves as a departure from the main ensemble of the Jurassic World films as a side story centering on a secret mission to utilize dino-DNA for a life-saving cure. So naturally, things go awry because the secluded island they have to go to ends up being filed with failed mutated dinosaur rejects like some island of misfit InGen toys. Here is a social media round-up of what critics and film content creators thought of the film and well… the results are decidedly mixed. Welp…#JurassicWorldRebirth is a movie. It has that going for it. — Clayton Davis (@ByClaytonDavis) June 18, 2025 #JurassicWorldRebirth hits every note you'd want a Jurassic film to hit, with engaging characters, a great score, great cinematography direction and incredible VFX work by @ILMVFX . The film is gorgeous, the dinosaurs are AWESOME, and Jonathan Bailey may be one of my new favorite actors. My heart was racing and there was a moment where I was so happy I wanted to cheer. 🥲 — TheConnorWebb (@TheConnorWeb) June 19, 2025 #JurassicWorldRebirth had a solid concept—mutated dinosaurs on a new island. The action and the cool cinematic shots doesn't help the film overcome the GLARING flaws within its characters and the bland narrative that will leave audiences feeling empty in the end. — Bill 🙂 (@BilliamSan) June 19, 2025 #JurassicWorldRebirth is a roaring triumph and perfect entry into the franchise. Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek's network of contributors The red band trailer for "The Toxic Avenger" reboot is here and it gives us our best look yet at Peter Dinklage as Toxie, the eponymous hero. It also delivers plenty of dark laughs and gore. You can watch the trailer below. "Now, Toxie must rise from outcast to savior, taking on ruthless corporate overlords and corrupt forces who threaten his son, his friends, and his community. In a world where greed runs rampant... justice is best served radioactive." Toxie in "The Toxic Avenger". Toxie in "The Toxic Avenger". Troma Entertainment Inc. While Dinklage provides the voice for Toxie, Luisa Guerreiro does the body work for the toxic superhero. Speaking about the new Toxie suit, filmmaker Macon Blair said, "The goal was to try to stay true to the vibe of Lloyd's original Jennifer Aspinall/Mitch Cohen creature, with some influence from the 'Toxic Crusaders' cartoon's look, while also trying to do something new and weird and lovable with Toxie's design. I love what Millenium FX did with it — part human, part mutant, all heart." Taylour Paige plays JJ Doherty in the film, an investigative journalist who is looking to expose the company Gooze works for and bring them to justice. Jacob Tremblay plays Winston's stepson, Wade. Kevin Bacon plays chemical industrialist Bob Garbinger while Elijah Wood plays his younger brother, Fritz. Macon Blair, who wrote and directed "The Toxic Avenger" reboot, previously collaborated with Wood on his feature directorial debut, 2017's "I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore." The reboot has been in the works for over a decade, but thankfully for Troma fans, things have changed since development began. The plan was originally to turn the "Toxic Avenger" reboot into a PG-13 action comedy. Blair has instead stuck to the splatter spirit of the original. "The Toxic Avenger" hits theaters on August 29. The film is written and directed by Macon Blair. "The Toxic Avenger" stars Peter Dinklage, Luisa Guerreiro, Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood and Jane Levy. Scarlett Johansson Says Jurassic World Rebirth Is a 'Love Letter' to Spielberg: 'Fans Will Feel the DNA of the Original' — GeekTyrant

At the world premiere of Jurassic World: Rebirth in London's Leicester Square, Scarlett Johansson took a moment to speak directly to fans of the original Jurassic Park , promising the latest chapter captures the soul of what made Spielberg's 1993 classic so iconic. 'So I think it really is a love letter to Steven's work. Fans of the Jurassic universe can expect to really feel the DNA of the original Jurassic Park in this film.' As a huige fan of the original film, that's great to hear! The film is directed by Rogue One 's Gareth Edwards, who Johansson described as an 'enormous fan' of Spielberg, and it's also written by David Koepp, the screenwriter who helped launch the franchise with Jurassic Park . This connection to the original creative team is what's giving fans hope that Rebirth is more than just another sequel, it's a return to form. Jonathan Bailey, also in attendance, described the experience as surreal. 'It's beyond a dream. Jurassic Park was the first film I saw with my family when I was five years old, and they're all inside so we're going to sit and watch it today.' Bailey revealed he also contributed musically, performing on the soundtrack with a full 105-piece orchestra. 'Going to Abbey Road… playing the John Williams score but also Alexandre Desplat's score was incredible, it was completely out of body.' Meanwhile, Edwards recalled how the project came to him not through industry buzz but via a text from his girlfriend. 'She sent me a text which was a news article about Universal looking for a director for Jurassic and as I carried on the call I just copied and pasted it and sent it to my agent and wrote 'Is this stupid?' And we're going to find out the answer tonight.' Set five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion , Rebirth explores a planet still adjusting to the aftermath of dinosaurs re-entering the ecosystem. With most of the surviving creatures isolated in tropical zones, the plot follows a breakthrough involving three genetically unique dinosaurs whose DNA might be the key to a world-changing cure. With the creative team leaning hard into Spielberg-era nostalgia, Jurassic World: Rebirth looks ready to claw its way back into the hearts of fans. The film hits theaters July 2.
