Without naming Majithia, the chief minister said he will not show any mercy in the matter of drugs no matter how politically strong or influential a person may be.
Mann's reaction comes a day after Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday for allegedly laundering more than ₹ 540 crore of "drug money".
The senior SAD leader was sent to a seven-day vigilance remand on Thursday.

Mann, while addressing reporters in Chandigarh, said his government has been running an anti-drugs drive campaign in the state, which has now turned into a public movement, news agency PTI reported.
He also took on opposition parties for condemning the vigilance action against Majithia.
"No matter how politically strong or influential one may be, I will not have mercy in the matter of drugs. I am accountable to Punjabis and I am indebted to them," Bhagwant Mann said.
Referring to the case, Mann said that the vigilance department followed due procedure and made a proper case.
"Those who have so far been sent to jail in connection with drugs, 80-90 per cent of them could not secure bail", the CM said.
Mann also warned those who are on the wrong side of the law and 'have the misconception' that they cannot be caught, saying action will also be taken against them.
Reacting to the opposition parties condemning the action against Majithia, he said these are the same leaders who used to question the government for not taking action against big smugglers.
"It shows that it is the AAP versus all. Those responsible for destroying (the future of) youngsters will face the strictest punishment. Be it anyone. Even if they want to harm me," Mann said. What are the charges against Majithia?
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau arrested Majithia alleging that the former minister was involved in laundering more than ₹ 540 crore of "drug money".
Majithia's arrest came after a raid was conducted at his Amritsar residence on Wednesday. He has been booked in a disproportionate assets case.

The preliminary investigations have revealed that more than ₹ 540 crore of "drug money" has been laundered through several ways and it was allegedly facilitated by Majithia, the authorities said.
Majithia, the brother-in-law of SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, is already facing a probe in a 2021 drugs case.

Kejriwal, Mann ‘weaponising agencies' to arrest Majithia: BJP leader Chugh

Chandigarh: BJP national General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday slammed former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for 'weaponising state agencies' to arrest Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia. 'This is pure political vendetta. Kejriwal apologised to Majithia in 2018 for levelling baseless and unfounded charges on drugs, if that apology was genuine, how is it that Majithia has become an accused today? That exposes Kejriwal's hypocrisy,' Chugh said in a statement. After a Delhi court has prima facie found Kejriwal guilty of corruption and told him that he does not deserve to occupy the Chief Minister's chair, Kejriwal 'is now running his 'danda tantra' in Punjab'. He said Punjab 'is sliding into a full-blown police state. On the 50th anniversary of Indira Gandhi's Emergency, Kejriwal has revived its very spirit, crushing dissent on the diktats of one authoritarian mind'. He accused the Mann government of 'net-casting for small fish' and opposition voices while letting the real drug kingpins roam free. Calling the much-hyped 'Yuddh Nashiyan Virudh' drive a 'PR stunt designed to muzzle the opposition', Chugh asserted that whatever the truth in the Majithia case, it must be placed before the public transparently, without abusing the machinery of the state. He urged all opposition leaders in Punjab to speak out against this tyranny and appealed to the people of Punjab to 'rise and uproot such unconstitutional, dictatorial forces'. 'This land once defied the Emergency,' Chugh said. 'It must do so again.' The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Wednesday arrested Akali Dal leader and former Minister Bikram Singh Majithia from his residence in a posh locality in Amritsar city on charges of laundering more than Rs 540-crore drug money. Investigations by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the police probing the first information report (FIR) of 2021 and the Vigilance Bureau revealed massive laundering of drug money facilitated by Majithia, the government said. Preliminary investigations revealed that more than Rs 540 crore drug money has been laundered through several ways, including a huge unaccounted cash of Rs 161 crore deposited in bank accounts of companies controlled by Majithia, channelisation of Rs 141 crore through suspected foreign entities and excess deposition of Rs 236 crore without disclosure or explanation in company financial statements.

"AAP govt not just talking, we are taking strong action to make Punjab drug-free": Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): Stressing that the Punjab government is fighting the drug problem at its roots, Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said on Thursday that the AAP government is making every effort to protect the youth and their future. In a post on X, on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Kejriwal said, 'Today is the International Day Against Drug Abuse. In Punjab, the AAP government is not just talking - we are taking strong action to make the state drug-free. We're fighting the problem at its root to protect our youth and their future. Let's salute every honest officer, volunteer, and citizen who stands with us in this real battle.' Earlier today, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasised that their war against drugs has now transformed into a mass movement. 'The campaign we launched from Punjab to eradicate drugs, 'War Against Drugs', has now transformed into a mass movement. Those who ruin families and use the ill-got gains of this sin to build palaces and host lavish parties will not be spared,' CM Mann said while speaking to the media. 'We have improved law and order in Punjab and provided people with a safe environment. By taking the strictest action against drug traffickers, we have forced them to flee Punjab,' he said. Further, the Punjab CM asserted that those who have entrenched drugs in Punjab and are destroying the youth of the state will not be spared under any circumstances. 'No matter how influential they may be. Very soon, this mafia will be completely wiped out from Punjab. The responsibility the people of Punjab entrusted to us, we are fulfilling it with true intent and utmost honesty. We are fully committed to uprooting the drug menace from Punjab,' CM Bhagwant Mann said. Slamming the opposition in the state, CM Mann said, 'The love of the opposition parties for drug traffickers has now become evident to all. As soon as we started catching the big fish, the opposition began speaking in their favour and defending them.' (ANI)

SAD calls Majithia case political vendetta, says charges rejected by Supreme Court

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Wednesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab of misusing state machinery to target senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia by registering a disproportionate assets case against him without any preliminary or regular inquiry. At a press conference in Amritsar, senior SAD leaders Balwinder Singh Bhundar, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, and Daljit Singh Cheema alleged that the case was politically motivated and aimed at silencing Majithia, while also distracting public attention from what they called the state's failed anti-drug campaign, Yudh Nashean Virudh. Maheshinder Singh Grewal said, 'The government is misleading the people by alleging Majithia was arrested in a Rs 540 crore drug case. This is a bundle of lies. The government has not presented a single complaint to justify the figure mentioned.' Drawing a comparison with the Delhi liquor policy case, Grewal pointed out that there were specific complaints from liquor contractors against AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. In contrast, he said, there was no evidence against Majithia in the NDPS case, in which he is already on bail. 'The High Court found no recovery, no drug money, and no related transactions,' he said. Grewal also dismissed the disproportionate assets allegations as baseless. 'The properties listed in the complaint existed in the Majithia family even before Mr Majithia was born. The family has a long history of land ownership,' he said. He added that Majithia had resigned as a director of Saraya Industries in 2007 and was no longer involved in its decisions. Daljit Singh Cheema said all the current allegations had already been placed before the Supreme Court during a plea seeking cancellation of Majithia's bail in the NDPS case, and the court had not taken cognizance. He also alleged that during Majithia's court appearance in Mohali, a curfew-like situation was created, causing hardship to other litigants. Veteran SAD leader Balwinder Singh Bhundar compared the government's actions to the Emergency era. 'This is a case of political revenge,' he said, claiming the AAP government had formed multiple SITs and suspended officers over the past three years to pursue Majithia. Bhundar also thanked opposition parties for what he called their support and solidarity.
