New jobs, retail expansion and more approved in ‘healthy' new Victorville budget

Yahoo3 days ago
Victorville's budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year went into effect recently and city officials say it looks "healthy."
A good indication of the city's "healthy fiscal position" is how the general fund and Measure P reserves are performing, Deputy City Manager Janelle Davidson said on the latest "What's the Tea VV" city podcast.
The city has a 17% reserve target that it is "far exceeding," meaning it's in the green.
"We've done a good job at watching our dollars and putting our money away to save," Mayor Liz Becerra said on the podcast.
Highlights of the new approved budget include 17 new city positions and major capital projects like enhancements to the Victorville Animal Shelter and millions of dollars allocated to continued road projects.
Davidson said she's most excited for the continuation of the new city library, which is scheduled to be completed at the end of the calendar year thanks to a $9 million grant from California State Library's Building Forward Program.
Here are some other projects and updates that have been approved in the new Victorville FY 2025-26 budget that residents can look forward to.
Major capital projects coming to Victorville
The city plans to invest approximately $45 million in capital improvement projects during the FY 2025-2026 budget cycle. These investments include $3.3 million for major equipment purchases and $2.6 million for vehicle acquisitions.
In addition, the following major capital projects are proposed for the upcoming fiscal year:
Southern California Logistics Airport- Over $1 million is allocated in the new budget to upgrade the airport, including rehabilitation of access roads and parking lots, and roof replacement.
Victorville Animal Shelter- $523,000 is set aside for the next fiscal year to enhance the new city-run Victorville Animal Shelter with ADA updates, air circulation systems, painting, flooring, and more.
Engineering/road improvement projects- Millions of dollars of the Victorville budget will address either new or continued engineering projects, such as $12 million to the Mojave Drive Road Improvement Project and $632,000 for a wrought iron fence around the city hall parking lot.
Major industrial developments
Victorville is on track to welcome three major industrial developments, all currently in the plan review stage. These include American Jerky Company, SCLA Phantom and Turner and The Ottawa Business Center.
American Jerky Company is planning the construction of a 238,798-square-foot industrial manufacturing warehouse on the east side of Hesperia Road, south of Nisqualli.
At SCLA Phantom and Turner, developers have proposed a 1.1 million-square-foot industrial warehouse, marking one of the largest warehouse projects in the area.
The Ottawa Business Center, slated for the north side of Ottawa east of Hesperia Road, will feature a 996,194-square-foot warehouse facility.
Retail expansion, new restaurants
Several retail and commercial developments have recently received permits and are now under construction.
A Pollo Campero restaurant located on Mariposa in front of Vallarta Supermarket has broken ground.

Victorville is expecting its first Raising Cane's restaurant, which is currently under construction at Roy Rogers and Civic Center drives.
Additionally, the northeast corner of Amargosa and Midtown will soon house a 26,355-square-foot, two-story medical office building, and a new ARCO AM/PM service station—with a convenience store, restaurant shell, canopy, and automated car wash—is also under construction.
Hotel growth
The hospitality sector is experiencing ongoing growth in Victorville. A new hotel and fuel station project is currently under plan review.
The proposed development is located at the southeast corner of Dos Palmas and Highway 395, and will feature both a hotel and a convenience store with fueling services. Among the upcoming projects is a 5-story, 119-room Hampton Inn, which is already underway at the intersection of Locust and Mariposa roads.

Understanding ADA Compliance: Essential for Business Success

In today's world, ensuring that your business is ADA compliant is not only a legal requirement but also a moral obligation. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was established to prevent discrimination based on disability and to guarantee that individuals with disabilities have the same opportunities as everyone else. This blog will delve into the importance of ADA compliance, the steps to achieve it, and the benefits it brings to businesses and society. ADA compliance refers to the adherence to the standards set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This federal law mandates that public and private spaces, including businesses, be accessible to individuals with disabilities. The ADA covers a wide range of areas, including employment, public accommodations, transportation, and telecommunications. Physical Accessibility: Ensuring that physical spaces such as entrances, restrooms, and pathways are accessible to individuals with mobility impairments. Communication Accessibility: Providing accessible communication methods, such as sign language interpreters, closed captioning, and accessible websites. Employment Practices: Implementing non-discriminatory hiring practices and providing reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities. Public Services: Making public services and facilities accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities. Businesses that fail to comply with ADA regulations can face significant legal repercussions. Non-compliance can result in lawsuits, fines, and damage to the business's reputation. Therefore, ensuring ADA complaint is crucial to avoid these legal issues. ADA compliance promotes inclusivity and accessibility, allowing individuals with disabilities to participate fully in society. By making your business ADA compliant, you are ensuring that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can access your services and facilities. An ADA-compliant business provides a better customer experience. When customers feel welcomed and accommodated, they are more likely to return and recommend your business to others. This can lead to increased customer loyalty and positive word-of-mouth marketing. Employees with disabilities who work in ADA-compliant environments are more likely to be productive and satisfied with their jobs. Providing reasonable accommodations and an inclusive workplace fosters a positive work culture and boosts employee morale. The first step towards ADA compliance is to conduct a thorough audit of your business premises and practices. This involves assessing physical spaces, communication methods, and employment practices to identify areas that need improvement. Based on the audit results, implement the necessary changes to ensure ADA compliance. This may include modifying physical spaces, updating communication methods, and revising employment policies. It is important to prioritize these changes and address the most critical issues first. Training employees on ADA compliance is essential to create an inclusive and accessible environment. Educate your staff on the importance of ADA Website Compliance and how to interact with individuals with disabilities. Regular training sessions can help reinforce these principles and keep employees informed about any updates or changes. ADA regulations may change over time, so it is important to stay informed about any updates or revisions. Regularly review the ADA guidelines and consult with legal experts to ensure that your business remains compliant. By making your business ADA compliant, you are opening your doors to a larger customer base. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly 1 in 4 Americans has a disability. Ensuring accessibility means that a significant portion of the population can access your services and products. An ADA-compliant business is seen as socially responsible and inclusive. This can enhance your brand reputation and attract customers who value businesses that prioritize accessibility and inclusivity. ADA compliance goes beyond legal obligations; it reflects a commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable society. By making your business accessible to individuals with disabilities, you are contributing to a positive community impact and promoting social justice. Ensuring ADA compliance is not just about following the law; it is about creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all individuals. By understanding the importance of ADA compliance and taking the necessary steps to achieve it, businesses can enhance their customer experience, improve employee morale, and avoid legal issues. Moreover, ADA compliance reflects a commitment to social responsibility and contributes to a more equitable society. ImmunoPrecise Releases New Findings Showing LENSai™ Quickly Flags Anti-Drug-Antibody Risk—Long Before the Clinic

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ImmunoPrecise Antibodies Ltd. (NASDAQ: IPA) ('IPA' or the 'Company'), a Bio-Native AI pioneer operating where TechBio meets true biological intelligence, today announced results of a newly expanded study demonstrating that its LENSai™ Immunogenicity Screening can reliably predict Anti-Drug-Antibody (ADA) risk for therapeutic proteins before they enter animal studies or human trials. The platform can shorten pre‑clinical cycles, cut material costs, and de‑risk downstream development—delivering a speed‑and‑breadth advantage unattainable with traditional methods. Share 'ADA-related failures still derail up to 40 percent of biologics in late development, costing companies billions of dollars,' said Dr. Jennifer Bath, President & CEO, IPA. 'With LENSai, we can now triage candidates against clinical data in hours, not months, giving drug-developers a fast, objective way to de-risk programs early and focus resources on the safest molecules.' Late‑stage ADA failures can wipe out $1–2 billion in projected revenue for a single biologic and push launch timelines back 12‑18 months. Yet many programs still lean on time‑intensive lab assays or first‑generation in‑silico screens that look only at peptide‑to‑MHC II binding across a few dozen HLA alleles—leaving large swaths of immune diversity untested and immunogenic 'self/non‑self' checks largely unaddressed. LENSai's HYFT‑powered, alignment‑free immunogenicity screening compresses that entire workflow into one overnight run. It evaluates nearly 900 HLA variants and performs a whole‑proteome 'humanness' scan at residue resolution, instantly flagging hot‑spots that legacy tools miss. By revealing design‑level fixes before expensive animal studies or repeat GMP production, the platform can shorten pre‑clinical cycles, cut material costs, and de‑risk downstream development—delivering a speed‑and‑breadth advantage unattainable with traditional methods. Study Highlights 217 marketed and clinical-stage antibodies analyzed – the largest public ADA dataset to predict immunogenicity risk – the largest public ADA dataset to predict immunogenicity risk Single composite score tracks clinical reality – enables reliable ADA incidence risk classification; a score ≥ 54 flags high-risk candidates (> 30 % ADA in patients).
