MCIT opens nominations for 9th edition of Qatar Digital Business Award 2025

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has announced the opening of nominations for the 9th edition of the Qatar Digital Business Award (QDBA) 2025.
Submissions will be accepted until August 24, 2025.
In a press statement on Thursday, MCIT said that the award aims to recognise and foster innovation and creativity in digital projects, thereby strengthening Qatar's leading position in the telecommunications, information technology, and digital innovation sectors.
The 9th edition continues to focus on fostering innovation within advanced digital fields by highlighting notable achievements and best practices across several categories, including the 'Best Digital Transformation – Corporate; Best AI Solution – Corporate; Best Digital Experience – Corporate; Best ICT Service Provider – Corporate; Best Digital Transformation – SME; Best Digital Experience – SME; Best AI Solution – SME; Best Startup of the Year; Best Scale-Up of the Year; Research and Development Excellence; Best Smart Solution; Best Cybersecurity Solution; and Entrepreneur of the Year.
Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Industry Affairs at MCIT HE Reem Al Mansoori said, 'The 9th edition of the Qatar Digital Business Award reflects our continued commitment to building a diverse and innovative digital economy. This award stands as a pioneering national initiative designed to stimulate digital innovation and promote a culture of excellence within the nation's digital business landscape.
'This latest edition forms part of the ministry's strategic objectives and aligns with the Digital Agenda 2030, which seeks to advance the national digital economy and strengthen the digital industries ecosystem by encouraging innovative projects and fostering a competitive environment driven by creativity and innovation.'
Al Mansoori added, 'QDBA is a key initiative for implementing the Digital Agenda 2030. Through it, we not only celebrate achievements but also accelerate the pace of digital transformation across various sectors and enhance integration between the public and private sectors in developing and adopting digital solutions with a real economic impact. With our diverse award categories, we are prioritising support for companies and digital innovators as part of our commitment to building a stimulating and enabling ecosystem for digital entrepreneurship.'
This year, QDBA will honour 13 winners; one for each category following a rigorous evaluation process by an independent judging panel comprising leading experts and specialists in the digital field. The evaluation is based on clear and specific criteria to ensure fairness and transparency.
Five finalists from each category will be shortlisted to present to the judging panel before the winners are announced and honoured at the official awards ceremony.

Qatar ranks 12th globally in 2024 in FDI performance index, says fDi Intelligence
QNA Doha The State of Qatar has achieved a significant leap in the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Performance Index report issued in 2025, ranking 12th globally in 2024, advancing 21 positions compared to the previous year. This confirms the country's growing competitiveness, its favorable regulatory environment for business, and its increasing openness to international partnerships. According to the FDI report recently published by fDi Intelligence, in terms of project growth, the number of foreign direct investment projects nearly doubled in 2024 compared to the previous year. Qatar also scored 4.70 on the index, indicating that its share of global greenfield FDI projects in 2024 far exceeded its share of global GDP. Sector trends highlighted in the report showed that the business services and technology sectors maintained the lead, with notable growth in FDI projects in consumer products and textiles. According to data from the FDI Projects Observatory under the Investment Promotion Agency Qatar, the first half of 2025 witnessed strong performance, with Qatar recording a significant increase in total capital expenditure, along with a year-on-year rise in both the number of projects and new job opportunities. The number of projects increased by 44.5 percent year-on-year, while job opportunities rose by 75 percent, reflecting continued investor interest in the country and their confidence in the Qatari market. In his remarks on the report, Investment Promotion Agency Qatar CEO Sheikh Ali bin Waleed Al Thani said that Qatar's significant advancement in the Global Foreign Direct Investment Performance Index strengthens its position as a leading investment destination. It reaffirms the country's appeal in attracting high-value strategic investments that contribute to economic diversification and sustainable growth. The Investment Promotion Agency remains firmly committed to supporting investments across various sectors and invites global partners to join us in shaping Qatar's prosperous future. Meanwhile, the Qatar Free Zones Authority highlighted that Qatar recorded a notable increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into new projects during 2024, with the volume of incoming investments nearly doubling compared to the previous year, according to the recent FDI report by fDi Intelligence. In a post on its X account today, the authority noted that the number of inbound investment projects in Qatar grew significantly in 2024, nearly doubling from the previous year. This surge contributed to the country's 21-place jump in the global ranking, placing Qatar among the top 15 countries in terms of FDI performance improvement.

MoCI grants grace period for cars not compliant with Gulf specifications
QNA Doha The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has announced a grace period extending until December 31, 2025, to regularise the status of vehicles that do not comply with approved Gulf specifications. This grace period is part of the MoCI commitment to regulating the local market and ensuring consumer rights, in response to individuals' requests, showroom owners, and online platforms specializing in car sales. In a statement on Wednesday, the MoCI indicated that during this grace period, non-compliant vehicles may be displayed and sold via showrooms or online platforms, provided the vehicle is registered before Dec. 31, 2025. This includes both new and used vehicles. The MoCI emphasized that displaying or selling any vehicle registered after this date, without it conforming to Gulf specifications, constitutes a clear violation of the law and requires the necessary action to be taken against the violating party. This directive is based on Circular No. (02) of 2025, issued by the MoCI, which obliges providers of electronic platforms and car showrooms not to display or advertise cars that do not conform to the specifications approved in the State of Qatar. The ministry stressed the need for all relevant parties to completely cease selling, displaying, or advertising non-compliant vehicles after the deadline, and to ensure strict implementation of the circular to avoid any violations or legal repercussions. The MoCI indicated that these measures aim to create a safe and organized commercial environment and enhance trust between consumers and suppliers, urging all exhibitions and online platforms to fully adhere to the announced instructions.
