Two workers burnt alive in container fire

Raipur, May 12 (UNI) Two workers were burnt alive in a container fire on Sunday night while cooking food in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh.
Sources said a fire was reported when three workers were cooking food around 7 pm. The workers were part of the Bharat Mala project in Abhanpur, sources added.
One worker managed to escape, they said. The fire initially started at the main door of the container. Soon the container was filled with smoke. The lone survivor managed to escape with the help of other workers, sources added.
Many workers are engaged for the project and a few of tem live in containers in Urla village, near Abhanpur.
Nava Raipur Additional Superintendent of Police (Additional SP) Vivek Shukla said the deceased workers were residents of Amroha in Uttar Pradesh.
The deceased have been identified as Parman Ali (25) and Shadab Ali (22).

He made the remarks while reviewing the security scenario in the border district of Kupwara and assessing the preparedness of forces on the counter-terrorism front. During the visit, DIG Zaman inspected various operational units and held detailed interactions with SSP Kupwara, Ghulam Jeelani, other officers, and personnel. At J&K Police's Special Operation Group (SOG) camp in Lolab, the DIG chaired a Darbar with the forces to listen to their issues and grievances. 'Several matters related to welfare and operational needs were resolved on the spot, while directions were issued for early redressal of remaining concerns,' police said. On counter-terrorism preparedness, the DIG carried out a comprehensive on-ground assessment to ensure smooth operational functioning. ASP Kupwara, Syed Javid, gave a detailed power point presentation highlighting recent threat perceptions, operational strategies, and area domination plans. 'The session involved threadbare discussions, with emphasis laid on maintaining high operational alertness, intelligence sharing, and coordination among all security stakeholders,' a police statement said. Later, the DIG visited TOB (Temporary Operating Base) at Dardpora Lolab, where he reviewed field deployments in sensitive areas and interacted with officers and jawans. He appreciated their dedication and commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the region. Addressing the officers, DIG Zaman underscored the importance of people-friendly policing alongside firm action against anti-peace elements. He also highlighted the role of community engagement, confidence-building measures, and continuous training of personnel to meet evolving security challenges. New Delhi Aug 20 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two persons, including a Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), from Warangal, Telangana, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 to permit a man run his restaurant along the Highway. The CBI said that they registered this case yesterday against the accused Project Director identified as Golla Durga Prasad and his aide Venu Yadav. The FIR was lodged based on allegations that the accused demanded an undue advantage of Rs.1,00,000 for not causing any hindrance in the operation of the complainant's restaurant located near Gudur Toll Plaza on the Hyderabad highway. The demand of undue advantage was initiated through the accused private person. After negotiations, the accused Project Director agreed to receive Rs.60,000 promising that during his tenure of five years as Project Director there would not be any problem for the Complainant. The CBI laid a trap and caught both the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting undue advantage. Searches were conducted at three places belonging to the accused. Two inter-state drug traffickers arrested in Meghalaya

Shillong, Aug 19 (UNI) Two inter-state drug traffickers were arrested and seized a huge consignment of illegal drugs in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district in the wee hours of today. Based on credible intelligence input, sleuths of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Meghalaya Police intercepted a Meghalaya Transport Corporation (MTC) bus on the way to Shillong from Silchar in Barak Valley of Assam. 'During the search of the bus, the ANTF recovered 10.35 Kg of Marijuana. 2,736 Tramadol Hydrocholoride capsules, 6000 Nitrazapem tablets from the bus,' Vikash Kumar, the district police chief of East Jaintia Hills, said. Following the seizure, he said the ANTF arrested drug suppliers identified as Amol Nath of Silchar and Radika Ranjan Das of Tripura's Dholai district. Preliminary investigations indicated that the duo are part of an interstate crime syndicate, involved in narcotics smuggling, Kumar said. Meanwhile, police have booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and investigation is on to establish backward and forward linkages. UNI RRK BM
