Air India got 9 showcauses in 6 months for safety violations: Minister

Air India NEW DELHI: Nine show-cause notices were issued to Air India during the last six months in connection with five identified safety violations, Union junior aviation minister Murlidhar Mohol said in reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. Enforcement action has been completed in respect of one violation, he added. Regarding the AI Dreamliner that had crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12, the minister said no adverse trend had been reported in reliability reports of Air India for that aircraft in the last six months. Meanwhile, govt admitted in Parliament that there is a shortage in aviation agencies like the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), and Airports Authority of India (AAI), which also provides air traffic services. According to a parliamentary reply, the DGCA as of Monday had 823 vacancies, BCAS had 230 and AAI had 3,238. "Some positions have been created in the last couple of years: 441 posts, including 426 technical posts, have been created between 2022 and 2024, 84 operational posts were created in restructuring of BCAS in 2024, and 840 posts of air traffic controllers have been created recently," Mohol said. "Keeping in view current and future expansion of civil aviation and effective supervision, additional posts have been created in DGCA, BCAS and AAI. The shortfall has not impacted the functioning of these organisations. Further, all methods of recruitment are pursued vigorously in order to ensure timely and continuous availability of requisite manpower," he said. "To meet requirements in the interregnum due to vacancies arising from reasons like inadequate response to advertisements, non-joining of selected candidates, persons with insufficient service in the feeder cadre for promotion, insufficient response to deputation posts, efforts are made to recruit persons through short-term contractual hiring," the minister said.

Will ask Centre to restart Goa-London AI flight: Sawant

Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant said that the five to seven flights shifted to Manohar International Airport, Mopa, from Goa International Airport, Dabolim, had no impact on hotels. He said that he would write to Union govt on Tuesday to restart the Air India flight from Goa to London, which was recently cancelled. Sawant said the shifting of flights is having a small impact on the taxi business. He also said that since the Mopa airport began functioning, Goa has been handling twice the number of flights. Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said that former CM Manohar Parrikar and Sawant assured the House that not a single flight would be shifted from Dabolim to Mopa, and that new airlines would connect Goa to other parts of the country and the world from Mopa. He questioned whether govt carried out any feasibility study to determine if two airports can coexist in the state. The CM also said that over Rs 65 crore in revenue was earned from Mopa airport. He said govt is upgrading infrastructure at the Dabolim airport so that it continues operations and that govt is committed to increasing the number of flights to Dabolim. Sawant also said that even if tourists land at Mopa airport, they travel to the south as they prefer to stay there, and there is no impact on the hotel industry. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo He added that the cruise terminal at Vasco is operational and will bring more tourists to the state. 'Dabolim airport will not close,' said Sawant. His statement on writing to Centre to restart the Air India flight to London came after Lobo raised the issue. The Calangute MLA said that the Air India direct flight was always full, and that the cancellation created inconvenience for people of the state who want to travel to London. He urged govt to immediately take up the matter with Centre.
