Several of the state's top schools received better rankings this year than last, with a handful breaking into the top 10 statewide.
Among the top five public high schools in Massachusetts this year, Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School (ranked No. 2 in the state), Lexington High School (No. 3), Sturgis Charter Public School (No. 4), and O'Bryant School of Math & Science (No. 5) moved up in the nationwide rankings.
Boston Latin fell slightly in the national ranking, from 27th to 46th best public high school in the US.

The 2025-2026 national public high school rankings were based on data points such as student achievement on state tests, graduation rates, and college readiness measures, US News & World Report said.
As with all school and college rankings, experts warn to interpret results with a
US News & World Report said its nationwide high school rankings use data to provide families with information needed to make informed education decisions.
'Students and families need data to help them make one of the most important decisions of their academic journey,' said LaMont Jones, managing editor for education at US News & World Report, in a release. 'Our Best High Schools rankings provide the insights to help them identify schools that will prepare students for college success.'
The news outlet also said that schools were evaluated on how effectively they serve all students — including underserved populations — for college readiness, specifically measured through student participation and performance on Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams. The rankings consider curriculum breadth and overall student outcomes as well, the news outlet said.

WEST LAFAYETTE, IN — West Lafayette Junior/Senior High School is the fourth best public high school in Indiana and the 295th best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report's recently released rankings. West Lafayette Junior/Senior High School ranked No. 1 in the Lafayette Metro Area, according to U.S. News & World Report. Also close to home, Rossville High School ranked 20th in the state, 1,310th in the nation and No. 1 in the Frankfort Metro area. The rankings are based on data from more than 24,000 high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia, according to the U.S. News & World Report's website. "Nearly 18,000 schools were ranked on six factors based on their performance on state assessments and how well they prepare students for college," the website states. "We rank high schools across the country to give an unbiased look at how well schools serve their students and help you make informed decisions about your child's education," U.S. News & World Report's website states. "We also want to recognize high-performing schools and inspire educators and municipalities to do better. "The top-ranked schools have a high rate of students who scored above expectations in math, science and reading state assessments, passed an array of college-level exams, and graduated in four years. The state, metro area and district rankings show how schools fare against others in a geographic location." Twin Lakes ranks No. 85; Attica ranked No. 112; Crawfordsville High School ranked No. 129; McCutcheon High School ranked No. 190; Lafayette Jeff ranked No. 201; North Montgomery High School is at No. 203; and Frankfort High School was listed at No. 229. Bucks and eastern Montgomery counties have some of the best high schools in Pennsylvania and most of the country, according to U.S. News & World Report. Ten area high schools landed among the top 100 schools in the commonwealth, with New Hope-Solebury High School ranked fourth highest in Pennsylvania and 308th in the country based on several factors, like advanced placement test results. The list includes schools from other districts including Central Bucks, Council Rock and North Penn. U.S. News & World Report's 2025-2026 Best High Schools rankings are made in coordination with North Carolina-based RTI International, a global nonprofit social science research firm. The news organization ranked 18,000 public high schools out of 24,000 reviewed across the country with a 12th grade enrollment of at least 15 students. Each school was given a score of 0 to 100 based on performance metrics, including graduation rates. Scores are reflective of how well that school did on a national percentile basis. A school with a score of 60 scored in the top 60th percentile. Every local school in the top 100 had an overall score between 87 and 99. Below is a breakdown of every school in the top 100 from Bucks and eastern Montgomery counties. New Hope-Solebury High School: scored 98.28, 4th highest in PA and 308th highest in U.S. Central Bucks High School-East: scored 96.65, 14th highest in PA and 600th highest in U.S. Council Rock High School North: scored 96, 22nd highest in PA and 717th highest in U.S. Central Bucks High School-West: scored 91.98, 43rd highest in PA and 1,436th highest in U.S. Central Bucks High School-South: scored 90.54, 61st highest in PA and 1,693rd highest in U.S. Council Rock High School South: scored 89.2, 75th highest in PA and 1,933rd highest in U.S. Souderton Area High School: scored 88.57, 78th highest in PA and 2,046th in U.S. North Penn High School: scored 88.5, 79th highest in PA and 2,059th highest in U.S. Abington High School: scored 87.6, 87th highest in PA and 2,220th highest in U.S. Two Philadelphia City School District high schools, Julia R. Masterman Secondary School and Central High School, received the first and third highest scores in the state and the eighth and 208th highest in the nation, respectively. Julia R. Masterman Secondary School is a public magnet school located in the city of Philadelphia that serves students in grades 5 through 12. The school has a 9-12 enrollment of 465 students and is considered one of the most difficult schools to get into in the country, with a high school acceptance rate of approximately 3%. The Julia R. Masterman Secondary School, which has a highly selective admissions process, finished fourth in the 2024 rankings.
