QAF reveals comprehensive plans for Jetour Doha Diamond League meeting

The Qatar Athletics Federation (QAF) has revealed the comprehensive plans for the much-anticipated Doha Meeting 2025, the third stop on this year's Diamond League calendar.
The event will be held on Friday at Suhaim Bin Hamad showcasing 128 elite athletes, including 45 Olympic and World Championship medalists.
During the official press conference on Wednesday, QAF President Mohammed Issa Al Fadala, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, emphasised the significance of the event.
'Everyone has been working tirelessly to ensure this edition of the Jetour Doha Meeting is a success and continues to reflect Qatar's organizational excellence. Everything is ready to host an unforgettable event,' said Al Fadala.
'We have also renewed our commitment to sustainability this year, building on our federation's ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management obtained in 2023. This responsibility pushes us to deliver an event that lives up to Qatar's reputation.
'The presence of so many world and Olympic medalists is proof of the athletes' desire to compete at the highest level as they prepare for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September. Many are aiming to break personal bests or set new records to test their readiness.'
He added that this year's edition will be exceptional, as four major events will be held on the same day:The Diamond League Meeting; The newly approved West Asia One-Day Championship; The National Teams Championship; and The Schools Championship.
Record prize
For the first time in the competition's history, a $5,000 bonus will be awarded to any athlete who breaks a record in their discipline, on top of the $9.24m prize pool spread across the Diamond League season.
'The presence of so many world and Olympic medalists is proof of the athletes' desire to compete at the highest level,' Al Fadala noted, adding that many will use the meet to test their form ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo this September.
This year's edition is particularly noteworthy, as four major events will be held on the same day: the Doha Meeting, the West Asia One-Day Championship, the National Teams Championship, and the Schools Championship.
'This year's edition will be exceptional,' Al Fadala added.
QAF Secretary General and Tournament Director Essa Al Harami underlined the event's competitive depth.
'The participation of 45 Olympic and World Champions highlights the caliber of the event. We are expecting unprecedented levels of competition.'
Sustainability is also at the heart of this year's planning. Sheikha Al Sahli, Chair of the Sustainability Committee, said: 'Receiving the sustainability certification has increased our responsibility to uphold these international standards. The organizing committee has been fully committed to implementing sustainable practices throughout the event.
'These initiatives include using Jetour electric vehicles for transport, metro trips, tree planting at schools and the athlete hotel, and recycling paper used during the event. We also aim to recycle 50,000 plastic bottles and raise student awareness about the importance of sustainability and its role in protecting the environment.'

Salah Al Saadi, Chair of Venues and Operations Committee, said, 'The Suhail bin Hamad Stadium at Qatar SC is fully prepared to host the Jetour Doha Meeting and the three additional championships. Qatar SC has become the preferred venue for world-class athletes.
We've completed all preparations, including dedicated entrances for spectators, VIPs, VVIPs, and media, and held several meetings with security authorities to refine crowd control plans.
As part of the experience, surrounding restaurants will be converted into a fan zone, offering a complete entertainment package for spectators.'

Al Shaqab Racing's Sahlan strikes in Gr.3 Prix Daphnis at Deauville
Tribune News Network Doha Sahlan (Wootton Bassett), a talented 3-year-old colt, returned to winning ways in style when taking the Gr.3 Prix Daphnis – Samuel Liberman over 1600m at Deauville in France on Sunday. The race, for 3-year-olds only, brought together a competitive field of 12 runners. While things didn't go his way in his next two outings, Sahlan bounced back here to secure a deserved first Group victory. Restrained towards the rear from the start, Sahlan settled in ninth alongside Tito Mo Cen (Uncle Mo), a long way behind the front-runner and race favourite Scoville (Too Darn Hot), who was setting a strong pace. As the field bunched up entering the final bend, the leader kicked clear with Madero (Lope De Vega) in pursuit, while Sahlan was still improving gradually, looking for a gap on the outside. Once in the clear, he quickened smartly, storming past his rivals to take the lead inside the final 100 metres, ultimately winning by a length and a half from Ciaran (Van Beethoven), with Silius (Dubawi) taking third. Bred by Al Shaqab Racing, Sahlan is out of Wasmya (Toronado), a Listed winner over 1400m at three. Wasmya is a daughter of Lamorlaye (Danehill Dancer) and a half-sister to Wahdan (Siyouni), a winner over 1900m at three and third in a Gr.2 over 2000m at the same age. She is also a half-sister to Talbah (Style Vendome), a winner over 1500m and third in a Gr.3 over 1400m at three.

Wathnan Racing's Heredia shines in Gr.2 Yellow Ribbon Handicap at Del Mar
Tribune News Network Doha Heredia (Dark Angel), the classy 6-year-old mare, lit up Del Mar in California with a brilliant front-running victory in the Gr.2 Yellow Ribbon Handicap over 1700m, in the early morning of Sunday. Trained in the USA by H. Graham Motion, owned by Wathnan Racing, and guided to glory by Juan J. Hernandez, she proved too strong for her rivals in a field of eight fillies and mares. A talented performer in the UK when trained by Richard Hannon, Heredia had already won at Gr.3 and Listed level — but this time, she stepped up to claim her first American Group 2 success. Breaking sharply from the gates, Heredia quickly took the lead, with Liguria (War Front) close behind. The mare set a confident pace while a couple of rivals, including Watchtower (Demarchelier) and Musical Rhapsody (Holy Roman Emperor), were left trailing at the rear. Heading into the final bend, Mission Of Joy (Kitten's Joy) tried to put pressure on her, but Heredia had plenty left. She quickened smoothly, pulling clear in the home stretch and crossing the line two and a quarter lengths ahead. Public Assembly (More Than Ready) finished strongly for second, with Watchtower coming from far back to take third. Bred by St Albans Bloodstock LLP, Heredia is out of Nakuti (Mastercraftsman), a Gr.3 winner over 1600m at four and also a Listed winner over the same trip. She is a half-sister to Arch Legend (Camelot), a dual winner over 2400m at three.

Wathnan Racing's RB Mary Lylah breaks through top level at Liwa International Stakes in France
Tribune News Network Doha RB Mary Lylah (Al Mourtajez) secured her first top-level victory in the Gr.1 (PA) Liwa International Stakes – Wathba Stallions, run over 2000m at La Teste in France on Monday. The contest, for mares aged four and above, was reduced to just five runners following the late withdrawals of Hajmah (Al Mourtajez) and Geneva (Azadi). Trained by Alban de Mieulle, ridden by Olivier d'Andigné, and owned by Wathnan Racing, the 5-year-old mare had been below her best on her last two starts in Dubai and Qatar. However, her record is outstanding: winner of three Gr.2 (PA) races, one Gr.3 (PA), and two Listed contests in America between 1200m and 1700m at three and four years old, followed by two wins in Qatar over 1750m and 2100m. This victory marks her 11th career success, and now, her first Gr.1 (PA) title. Soon settled in rear, RB Mary Lylah travelled in fourth alongside Bianca De Ghazal (Al Mourtajez), racing a touch keenly behind the slow pace set by the favourite, Nour Al Maury (Azadi). With positions unchanged entering the final turn, the tempo lifted and she was still last of all, but travelling strongly. Switched to the outside at the 500m mark, she began to close in steadily as the favourite battled for the lead with Norma Al Maury (Azadi). Inside the final 200m, Norma Al Maury edged ahead, but RB Mary Lylah was finishing powerfully on the outside, reeling her in to take the lead in the final 75m and win by a quarter of a length. Norma Al Maury was a gallant second, with Bianca De Ghazal staying on for third. Bred by Diane Waldron (USA), RB Mary Lylah is out of Rich Kinkga (TH Richie), a triple winner in the United States including the Gr.3 (PA) Arabian Stallion Stakes and twice runner-up in the Gr.2 CRE Run Oaks Arabian Distaff Stakes. She is a half sister to RB Kindle (Burning Sand), an eight-time winner in the USA including the Gr.3 (PA) Delaware Park Arabian Juvenile Filly Championship and runner-up in the Gr.1 (PA) Buzz Brauninger Arabian Distaff Handicap, and to RB Kinetic (Baseq Al Khalediah), a dual Gr.3 (PA) winner in the USA. Also half sister to RB Kinkie (Burning Sand) a triple winner in the USA including the Gr.3 Arabian Stallion Stakes.
