Jordan News5 days ago
The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced on Saturday the completion of the core works for the first phase of the Ma'an–Al-Mudawwara Road expansion and rehabilitation project—two months ahead of the planned schedule. اضافة اعلان The first phase, which began at the end of August last year, spans 31 kilometers from Al-Jafr Bridge in Ma'an to just before the Al-Sheidiyah junction. The project, which cost JD 8.5 million, was funded by the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company, which allocated around JD 15 million for both the first and second phases. The total cost of the two phases exceeds JD 17 million. This phase included comprehensive maintenance of the road, expanding its width by 3 meters to reach between 10 and 11 meters, and repaving it with two layers of asphalt in accordance with top international engineering and technical standards. The project also focused heavily on improving traffic safety by installing modern road signs, reflectors, pavement markings, side barriers, and improved warning and guidance signage. Minister of Public Works and Housing, Engineer Maher Abu Al-Samen, affirmed that this achievement aligns with the ministry's broader efforts to improve and develop the national road network, enhancing its quality to serve the economic, social, tourism, and agricultural sectors and contribute to comprehensive development. Abu Al-Samen highlighted the strategic importance of the road, noting that it links Jordan with Saudi Arabia and serves as a critical route for land transport and transit—particularly for pilgrims, expatriates, and visitors from the Gulf countries—making its development a continual priority for the ministry. The minister also announced that the completion of the second and third phases of the project is approaching, with the total length of rehabilitated road expected to reach about 100 kilometers. He revealed plans to continue rehabilitating the remaining segments as soon as funding becomes available.
It's worth noting that the ministry is currently implementing three projects on this road. In addition to the now-completed first phase, the second phase spans 31 kilometers from the end of phase one toward the phosphate mines, passing through the Al-Sheidiyah junction, and includes works to rehabilitate and light the junction area. The third phase covers 25 kilometers from the Al-Mudawwara border crossing toward Ma'an City.

Amman Industrial Exports Climb to JD 4.2 Billion - Jordan News

The industrial export sector posted strong gains in the first seven months of 2025, with the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI) reporting total exports of JD 4.207 billion, reflecting a 14.9 percent increase compared to JD 3.660 billion during the same period last year. اضافة اعلان The figures, based on certificates of origin issued by the Chamber and published by the Jordan News Agency (Petra), highlight a sustained upward trend in industrial activity that has continued since the beginning of the year. This growth was driven by broad-based improvements across key industrial segments. Eight sub-sectors recorded positive year-on-year export growth, with particularly strong performance in the construction materials sector, which surged by 78 percent. The pharmaceutical and medical supplies sector also contributed to the expansion with a modest increase of 2.5 percent. However, not all segments shared in the upturn. Exports of wood and furniture fell by 8.2 percent, while packaging, paper, and office supplies declined by 7.6 percent, indicating areas of softness within the broader industrial portfolio. Export concentration remained high, with four countries, India, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, absorbing more than half of the Chamber's total exports during the reporting period, accounting collectively for JD 2.421 billion. India led all export destinations, registering a 41.6 percent rise to approximately JD 700 million, positioning itself as the top importer of Amman-based industrial products. Exports to Saudi Arabia increased by 8.3 percent to JD 492 million, while shipments to Iraq rose by 1.9 percent to JD 535 million. Conversely, exports to the United States experienced a notable contraction of 9.5 percent, falling to JD 694 million from JD 767 million in the previous year. Beyond these primary markets, Amman-based industries saw a dramatic resurgence in exports to Syria, where volumes skyrocketed by 363.7 percent to reach JD 181 million, compared to just JD 39 million over the same period last year. Trade with Palestine also expanded, with exports rising by 9 percent to JD 94 million. From a regional perspective, Arab markets remained the dominant destination, importing goods worth JD 2 billion, followed by non-Arab Asian countries at JD 935 million and North American markets at JD 723 million. European Union countries accounted for JD 252 million in exports, while non-EU European countries imported JD 135 million worth of goods. Exports to African and South American countries stood at JD 87 million and JD 37 million respectively, with remaining global markets totaling JD 32 million. Industrial sector composition showed that mining and extractive industries led the export mix with JD 1.024 billion in value, followed by chemicals and cosmetics at JD 745 million, and engineering, electrical, and information technology products at JD 624 million. The food, agriculture, and livestock segment contributed JD 567 million, while pharmaceuticals and medical supplies added JD 413 million. The leather and garment sector registered JD 369 million, with plastics and rubber products generating JD 184 million. Packaging and paper-based products reached JD 148 million, construction materials accounted for JD 122 million, and the wood and furniture sector contributed JD 11 million. Established in 1962, the Amman Chamber of Industry represents over 8,600 industrial enterprises. Collectively, these businesses employ more than 159,000 workers and operate with an estimated capital base of approximately JD 5 billion. The latest export figures underscore the critical role of industrial production in supporting Jordan's trade performance and broader economic resilience in 2025.

Committee Approves JD 930,000 in Rural Electricity Projects for 215 Sites - Jordan News

Committee Approves JD 930,000 in Rural Electricity Projects for 215 Sites The Higher Steering Committee for the Rural Fils has approved the list of homes and locations that will benefit from electricity connection through conventional power networks. The total number reached 215 homes and sites across various regions of the Kingdom, with a total cost of JD 930,000, according to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Al-Kharabsheh. اضافة اعلان In a press statement issued on Tuesday, Al-Kharabsheh said the projects target residential clusters and economic sites both inside and outside officially zoned areas. The expansion comes after recent revisions to the criteria governing electricity access through the Rural Fils, allowing wider coverage and stronger support for marginalized populations. Hisham Al-Momani, Director of the Electricity and Rural Electrification Directorate at the Ministry, outlined the details: JD150,000 was allocated for a group of five homes outside zoning boundaries, JD155,000 for another group of three, and JD48,000 to connect individual homes using existing grid infrastructure. Additional funding includes JD 3,000 to help electrify homes of low-income families within organized areas, and JD 47,000 to supply power to livestock, poultry, and fish farms located in poverty pockets, part of the government's efforts to support agricultural production and boost self-reliance. A separate JD 20,000 was set aside to install lighting along roads leading to cemeteries, ensuring safe access for citizens during nighttime burials. The Committee also committed JD 300,000 to productive, industrial, and investment projects in unregulated and economically challenged areas, provided these initiatives create jobs for Jordanians and contribute to local development. Support continues with JD 82,000 directed toward farms with artesian wells, JD 12,000 for cooperative and charitable organizations, and JD 20,000 for a range of government and agricultural initiatives. Over the past ten years, the Rural Fils has also invested JD 49,000 to upgrade transformer stations, helping to improve electricity quality and reduce technical losses in the network. In a move toward sustainable energy, the Committee approved the installation of grid-connected solar systems for 44 homes belonging to low-income families and recipients of National Aid. The solar systems aim to reduce monthly electricity bills and enhance the financial well-being of some of the Kingdom's most vulnerable households. (Petra)
