Tyrese Haliburton's injury revealed with Pacers on verge of NBA Finals heartbreak

New York Post4 hours ago

Already on the brink of elimination, the Pacers' NBA Finals outlook just got even worse.
Indiana star Tyrese Haliburton is believed to have suffered a strained right calf, and he will undergo an MRI exam to determine the severity of the injury, according to a report from ESPN's Shams Charania Tuesday.
Haliburton's status for Game 6 on Thursday in Indiana is unknown until the team gets the results of the MRI, which Charania said will allow the Pacers to 'huddle and map out exactly what the plan will be going into Game 6.'

Haliburton, 25, played through the injury in the second half of Monday's 120-109 loss to the Thunder in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, after he exited to the locker room early in the game and returned in the second quarter with his calf wrapped.

Still, his output was significantly diminished – Haliburton scored just four points and went 0-for-6 from the field as the Pacers lost their second straight game and fell into a 3-2 series deficit.
It marked the quietest game of the playoffs for the point guard, who has been the primary catalyst for Indiana's magical run to the Finals, averaging 17.9 points, 9.1 assists and 5.8 rebounds in 21 playoff games.

After Game 5, Haliburton indicated he would do everything in his power to play Game 6.

'It's the Finals,' he said. 'I've worked my whole life to be here and I want to be out there to compete, help my teammates any way I can. I was not great tonight by any means, but it's not really a thought of mine to not play here. If I can walk, then I want to play.'

With Haliburton battling the injury, the Pacers will need big-time efforts from Pascal Siakam, Andrew Nembhard, Aaron Nesmith and the rest of their deep rotation in Game 6 to stay alive and force a Game 7 in Oklahoma City.

ESPN's Adam Schefter to dabble in a different role at Travelers Championship

Adam Schefter is expanding his sports media horizons. The ESPN NFL insider will serve as a sideline reporter for the Worldwide Leader at the Travelers Championship this weekend, adding golf to his football-heavy resume. During an appearance on ESPN Radio's 'Unsportsmanlike' on Tuesday, Schefter said he'd be on the grounds at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut starting Thursday with one of the featured groups on ESPN+. Schefter, who has been reporting on the NFL since 1990, admitted earlier this year that he was looking for something more stimulating than breaking football news. 'Interact with people outside your normal world,' Schefter said when asked what he'd like to do outside of television hits and social media during a conversation on 'The Marchand Sports Media' podcast in January. 'It's refreshing. I love stepping out of this zone, on the rare occasion that I can. I like being let out of the cage. And ESPN doesn't let me out of the cage very often.' Adam Schefter on set ahead of Super Bowl 2025 on February 7, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Getty Images Schefter had previously dipped his toes into sideline reporting during an NBA game when LeBron James was with the Cavaliers, which was an experience he looked back on fondly. 'I was doing a Cleveland Cavaliers game on a Friday night in late March, and I'm in the hall, and LeBron walks past, and he goes, 'What are you doing here, did you get lost?'' Schefter said. 'Things like that, that get your juices going a little bit. I love what I do, and I'll do it for a long time,' Schefter said. 'But I love to feel the energy of something that is not familiar to you. That you have not done for 35 years. Where it's new faces in a new place. That to me is a little bit stimulating.'

Latest ESPN NBA Mock Draft has Jase Richardson landing just outside lottery

Latest ESPN NBA Mock Draft has Jase Richardson landing just outside lottery The NBA Draft is just over a week away so where will Michigan State star Jase Richardson land? ESPN's latest mock draft suggests it'll be just outside of the lottery. ESPN released an updated NBA Mock Draft on Tuesday, which pegged Richardson to be selected just outside of the lottery. This latest mock draft from ESPN has Richardson going No. 16 overall to the Memphis Grizzlies -- who just acquired this pick from the Orlando Magic in a trade. Jonathan Givony had this to say about Richardson and the Grizzlies pairing: "The Grizzlies are exactly the type of team that could be interested in an ultra-efficient, productive young prospect such as Richardson, who rates highly in draft models that analytics-savvy teams like Memphis often pay attention to. "Richardson possesses an excellent feel for the game, hit 41% of his 3-pointers this season, brings strong defensive intensity and looks adept at playing off the star power of a teammate like Ja Morant, whose future in Memphis is to be determined. As Richardson's shot-creation diversity and offensive aggressiveness evolve, he could be someone who eventually inherits more significant ballhandling responsibilities, if the Grizzlies decide to pivot toward a youth movement." Richardson has widely been considered a fringe-lottery pick after starring for the Spartans in his lone season in college. He averaged 12.1 points per game and shot above 40% from three-point range, which quickly turned him into an NBA first round projection. The NBA Draft will be held on June 25 and 26, with the first round taking place on Wednesday and second round on Thursday. The draft will be televised on ABC and ESPN. Lakers Set to Aggressively Target New Center This Offseason

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The 2025 NBA offseason is set to be one for the books. There has already been much movement, and the offseason has not yet begun. The NBA Finals are still underway, and while that is the case, it appears that everyone is looking forward to this much-anticipated offseason. At the forefront of it will be the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers have plenty to address this offseason, but shoring up the center spot tops the list. The lack of consistency and production from that position was one of the major flaws that hurt them during their playoff run. Expect Los Angeles to be aggressive in its search for a reliable big. According to ClutchPoints' Lakers insider Anthony Irwin, the team has already expressed interest in several centers as they gear up for what's expected to be a busy summer. Walker Kessler #24 of the Utah Jazz drives into Clint Capela #15 of the Atlanta Hawks during the first half of a game at Vivint Arena on February 03, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah.... Walker Kessler #24 of the Utah Jazz drives into Clint Capela #15 of the Atlanta Hawks during the first half of a game at Vivint Arena on February 03, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah. More Photo by"Sources close to the team reiterated that the internal plan is to trade for their starting center – sources say they've held conversations with other teams about Nic Claxton, Robert Williams, Walker Kessler and others – then, ideally, use the taxpayer midlevel on his backup – Brook Lopez and Clint Capela are the two names most often linked to the Lakers. It's a solid plan that they're considered likely to be able to execute. But, because of their clear and desperate need at the position, such an approach is going to be a lot more complicated than it would've been had they not neglected the position the past couple of seasons," wrote Irwin. Arguably, the most intriguing name on the Lakers' radar is Utah Jazz big man Walker Kessler. At just 23 years old, Kessler has the makings of a long-term anchor in the middle and would be an ideal complement next to Luka Doncic moving forward. He's young, highly skilled, and still developing — which makes him all the more valuable. The Jazz may listen to offers this offseason, but there's a sense they could be hesitant to deal him, especially to a Western Conference rival like the Lakers. That said, don't expect L.A. to back down from making a strong push. The others on the list would be of massive help and a huge upgrade. Nic Claxton is another player who fits the mold of succeeding next to Doncic, as he is a rim runner and extremely athletic. Robert Williams also fits that mold and is arguably the best defender and shot blocker from this current crop of big men. As for Clint Capela and Brook Lopez, they may be on the older side, but they will certainly be an upgrade compared to what the Lakers had in the second half of the season.
