New on Hulu August 9-15: our editor's picks for 5 TV shows and movies coming to Hulu this week
Scrolling for something new to watch on Hulu this week, August 9-15? Let me give you a hand with my picks for the best movies, TV shows and more arriving on the streaming service.
The big arrival this week is a new series based on one of the most popular sci-fi franchises of all time. But there are some other great options to stream this week, including a special live event and a major action franchise.
Check out all of the picks for this week directly below.
The Lost City (2022)
Enjoy this adventure comedy on Hulu starting August 10
Who doesn't love Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum? They both are at their charming best in The Lost City, an action/adventure comedy that is a solid, easy watch from the last few years.
In the movie, Bullock plays an author who is kidnapped by an eccentric billionaire (played by Daniel Radcliffe) who believes her most recent book reveals clues to a real ancient lost city. It falls to her cover model (Tatum) to try and rescue her.
Copshop (2021)
Under-the-radar crime thriller with a fun Gerard Butler performance is streaming as of August 11
There's a large fan base for Gerard Butler's crime movies Den of Thieves and Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, but in my opinion, Copshop is just as fun and is a far superior movie than the Den of Thieves franchise, and we still get Butler showing his rougher side.
In Copshop, a con artist (Frank Grillo) attempts to hide from a lethal assassin (Butler) by getting himself arrested. However, the assassin follows him into the station, with only a rookie cop (Alexis Louder) on duty to handle the situation.
Copshop is "Certified Fresh" on Rotten Tomatoes.
Alien: Earth
The first two episodes of the sci-fi TV series premiere on Hulu on August 12
The Xenomorphs have been terrorizing space for almost 50 years, but they are about to terrorize Earth in the FX/Hulu original series Alien: Earth from Fargo creator Noah Hawley.
With a cast of relatively lesser-known actors, save for Timothy Olyphant, Alien: Earth is one of the more interesting summer TV shows we're getting this year and is worth giving a try.
John Wick movies
The entire John Wick franchise starts streaming on Hulu on August 15
Not one, not two, not three, but all four John Wick movies arrive on Hulu this week.
The mega-action franchise, starring Keanu Reeves as the world's most dangerous assassin out for revenge against those who have wronged him, has spawned beyond the confines of these four movies (most recently with the spinoff movie Ballerina), and we're even getting a John Wick 5 it seems. But these four movies (John Wick, John Wick: Chapter 2, John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum, John Wick: Chapter 4) remain the gold standard.
Stand Up to Cancer
A special live stream of the Stand Up to Cancer fundraising event takes place on August 15
Stand Up to Cancer raises money for cancer research, and one of their biggest events is the Stand Up to Cancer event, taking place for the ninth time on August 15.
Hulu will have a special live stream of the event that begins at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT, with host Sheryl Crow and appearances and performances from celebrities, including Dolly Parton.

Nick & Vanessa Lachey's Head-Turning Real Estate Decision Shows How Much They Loved Their Dream Home
As the old saying goes, 'you can go home again.' That's exactly what Nick and Vanessa Lachey are doing with their recent real estate purchase. Let's dial it back to see how the couple went full circle with a 6,855-square-foot home in Tarzana, California. In 2020, the Lacheys moved to the $5.1 million mansion, thinking it would be the perfect place to raise their three children: Camden, 12, Brooklyn, 10, and Phoenix, 8. That was the plan until Vanessa scored a gig on NCIS: Hawai'i in 2021. More from SheKnows Prince William & Kate Middleton's 'Fresh Start' Home Comes With a Refreshing Financial Detail That meant a move to Honolulu, where they purchased an $8.8 million residence and sold their Tarzana estate to tennis pro Naomi Osaka for $6.2 million, per This is where things get a little crazy. NCIS: Hawai'i was canceled by CBS in April 2024, and it was time for the Lachey family to return to California. They bought a six-bedroom home in Encino, a neighborhood next door to Tarzana, for $6.8 million — but it wasn't the dream residence they once had. In a game of real estate shuffle, they put that home back on the market less than a year later because they were able to convince Osaka to sell their old property back to them. According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Open champion made a nice profit on the place by selling it back to Nick and Vanessa for $7.95 million. The media outlet noted that this was a private sale since it wasn't listed on the open market, and Osaka had made substantial upgrades to the property. Osaka added necessary details for any athlete — a 'recovery center' with 'a sauna, a cold plunge, a steam room, and a massage table.' She even had her workout mantras posted in neon in the gym: 'Nothing good happens without discipline' and 'If it was easy, everyone would do it.' Surprisingly, the property did not have a tennis court, only a pickleball court — so it might be why Osaka is on the move. For the Lacheys, though, a return to their old home is a dream come of SheKnows 20 Times Madonna Reinvented Fashion at the VMAs The Best Photos of Madonna & Lookalike Daughter Lourdes Through The Years 22 Famous Women Who Have Played Roxie in Chicago on Broadway Solve the daily Crossword

'TSITP' Fans! Your Favorite TV Boyfriend Just Joined Jessica Chastain's New Horror Movie.
I realize that The Summer I Turned Pretty and the supernatural horror genre don't exactly sound like a match made in Heaven, but one of TSITP's breakout stars, Sean Kaufman, is set to act alongside several other big names in Hollywood for the upcoming horror film Other Mommy. Sidenote: I'm already terrified by this movie, and that's just based on the premise alone. Here's everything you need to know about Other Mommy, coming soon. Where can I watch Other Mommy? Other Mommy is sure to hit theaters soon. Stay tuned for an official release date! What is Other Mommy about? This upcoming movie is based on the horror novel Incidents Around the House, by Josh Malerman, who's best known for writing Birdbox. Other Mommy centers around a dysfunctional family with parents who are constantly fighting, and a young daughter, Bela, who is left alone to her own devices most of the time. Since Mom and Dad are so busy bickering and trying to win arguments, Bela is forced to resort to her own imagination in order to have companionship. The only times her parents actually do sit down to talk to Bela are when they're complaining about each other to her. Yeah. Not exactly what I'd call model behavior from the parenting 101 handbook. Especially considering the fact that Bela is only eight years old! While reading the book, I kept wanting to scream to the mom and dad that they should be airing out their issues to a licensed couple's therapist, rather than their young daughter. It was infuriating to read, but ultimately the perfect framing device to set the tone for Bela's growing need for an 'Other Mommy.' Cue, the creepiest element of the narrative: Bela begins hearing voices in the house from a supernatural entity called 'Other Mommy,' who keeps asking, 'Can I go inside your heart?' (I've never been so terrified in my life, and I've seen Hereditary.) This force becomes a looming threat within the family household, yet because Bela is so young, she doesn't come to the conclusion that 'Other Mommy' is anything to fear. In fact, at times, 'Other Mommy' might even be seen as a source of comfort for her, considering her real mother's neglect. I was wondering why this premise sounded so familiar until I realized how much it reminded me of Coraline. Hem, hem, 'Other Mother?' Yet while the Neil Gaiman book-to-movie adaptation has an eerie but ultimately whimsical vibe, don't get it twisted- Other Mommy is just straight-up horror. Even avid horror readers admitted to this novel being among the scariest they've ever read. Who's in the Other Mommy cast? In addition to Sean Kaufman, we'll see some amazing names like Jessica Chastain, as well as Jay Duplass. Interestingly enough, the script was crafted by Succession writer, Nathan Eltson (I highly doubt they'll be cracking Roman Roy-style jokes in this particular script, though). Here's the full Other Mommy cast: Arabella Olivia Clark as Bela Sean Kaufman Adam Silver Jessica Chastain Jay Duplass Dichen Lachman Karen Allen Are y'all as terrified about this film as I am?
