Probe into attempted murder of Sandringham teacher leads to 8 arrests
The Gauteng organised crime investigation (OCI) unit has arrested three suspects and five alleged accomplices in connection with an attack on a Johannesburg teacher.
Capt Tintswalo Sibeko said the officers are investigating an attempted murder case opened in Sandringham on December 3, where a deputy principal at a local school was shot and wounded.
They traced two suspects to Jeppe and one in Phumula near Vosloorus on Wednesday morning. A few hours later, five more suspects, in a Toyota Corolla, were apprehended on the M2 highway, near the Maritzburg on-ramp within the Jeppe policing precinct. They were allegedly about to commit an armed robbery.
Police seized five handguns and ammunition.
'Three of the suspects have been linked to attempted murder while five have, for now, been charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition,' Sibeko said.

IOL reported on Saturday that five people travelling in a Toyota multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) were killed when the driver of a speeding Toyota Corolla sedan crashed while fleeing from law enforcement agents. In an update, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga department of community safety, security and liaison, Moeti Mmusi told IOL that the unidentified driver has been released at the Ermelo police station in Mpumalanga. "He was released on a R1,000 bail by the police. His main charge is failure to stop when directed by officials, reckless and negligent driving, inconsiderate driving, and also driving under the influence of alcohol," Mmusi told IOL. On Saturday, Mmusi told IOL that the horrific crash that happened on the N2 Road on Friday involved multiple vehicles, including the Toyota Corolla, a seven-seater Toyota MPV, a taxi pulling a trailer, and a heavy truck. 'Five people, including the driver of the Toyota MPV, lost their lives, and three survivors were rushed to the hospital," said Mmusi. "The other driver of the Toyota Corolla sedan, who was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash, was arrested and charged with excessive speeding, failure to stop when ordered to stop by law enforcers, and for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol." The investigation into the collision is already underway. Meanwhile, Mpumalanga's MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie has appealed to motorists to be responsible on the roads, in a bid to curb 'needless loss of lives'. Macie has also cautioned motorists to respect the rules of the road, and the rights of other road users. "Too many tears have been shed already and too many families have been left devastated by inconsiderate, reckless and negligent driver behaviour, and this needs to stop. Two men charged with attempted murder of SARS advocate to face court in Durban

Image: Google Two men accused of the attempted murder of South African Revenue Service (SARS) advocate Coreth Naudé SC are set to make their first appearance in the Durban High Court on August 28 after they were served with indictments on Friday morning. Siyanda Emmanuel Mbulwana, 29, and Mcebisi Corlen Runeyi, 28, are alleged to have shot Naudé in the face and neck at the entrance of the Premier Hotel in uMhlanga on July 18, 2024. The State alleges that while Naudé was driving to the hotel, she was ambushed by two armed men who opened fire on her. However, she managed to drive inside the hotel, where she received medical attention before being rushed to the hospital. The suspects fled the scene in a silver Toyota Corolla. Image: Nomonde Zondi The advocate had come to Durban on behalf of SARS for the tax inquiry concerning the tax affairs of Andile Mpisane and 13 others. Mpisane is the son of Durban's controversial businesswoman Shauwn 'MaMkhize' Mkhize. The pair was arrested in December last year in Cape Town, and they are currently in custody after the Durban Magistrate's Court denied them bail. During their bail application, the investigating Warrant Officer Praved Maharaj said the attempted murder of Naudé was carried out brazenly, and the men used no form of disguise. He said the duo had no consideration for the public. 'There was a security guard present when the shooting occurred, and he had to flee for his life,' Maharaj said. According to the police officer, the State has a prima facie case against the duo. Maharaj said that in 2016, Mbulwana was convicted of assault and is currently facing charges of unlawful firearm possession. Additionally, Runeyi is said to have a warrant of arrest for two cases, one for theft of a motor vehicle and one for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
