Man accused of using AI images of women for sextortion
A man accused of threatening to post AI-manipulated images online in the sextortion of three women has appeared in court for the first time.
Benjamin Michael Jomaa is accused of sending sexual material to the women without their consent on Facebook messenger and threatening to distribute AI-manipulated images of them online.
The 31-year-old allegedly demanded to be sent more intimate pictures and encouraged one of the women to participate in a sexual act without her consent.
Sexual extortion or 'sextortion' is a form of blackmail where a person threatens to share a nude or sexual image or video unless their victim gives in to their demands.
Police searched Jomaa's home on May 28 at Ettalong Beach on the NSW Central Coast and seized several electronic devices.
He was arrested and charged with 13 offences.
The three women, all aged in their 20s, were allegedly abused by Jomaa online between October 2024 and April 2025.
Jomaa was granted bail after the arrest.
He appeared briefly in Gosford Local Court for the first time on Wednesday, represented by his lawyer Jessica Tohi.
Supported by two people, Jomaa walked out of the court building hidden underneath a coat.
He has been excused from attending court when the matter returns in two weeks and will remain on bail.

Jared Leto has denied his sexual misconduct accusations: 'They are false!'
Jared Leto has denied the sexual misconduct accusations made against him. The 54-year-old Hollywood star was alleged to have inflicted the behaviour on nine women over the course of nearly two decades, and the accusations involve women who say they were teenagers at the time of the alleged incidents but a rep for the actor has now dismissed them completely. The rep told AirMail: "Ms. Teilz's allegations are demonstrably false!" The accusations came to light after Los Angeles-based DJ Allie Teilz, 30, re-shared a 2012 Facebook post on her Instagram Stories, in which she alleged Jared assaulted her when she was 17. She claimed: 'You're not really in L.A. until Jared Leto tries to force himself on you backstage… in a kilt… And a snow hat. 'I was assaulted and traumatised by this creep when I was 17." She further alleged Jared 'knew' her age but 'didn't care', describing his actions as 'predatory, terrifying and unacceptable'. A second woman, who remained anonymous, told Air Mail Jared approached her in 2006 when she was 16 at Urth Caffé in Los Angeles. She said: 'I looked down and it was Jared Leto. We had a quick conversation, and he got my number.' And she claimed the actor called her days later, adding: 'I don't know if he was on drugs or what… it was the weirdest, grossest voice… (but) for me, it's Jared, you know?' The woman alleged their late-night conversations 'turned sexual', and claimed Leto asked: 'Have you ever had a boyfriend? Have you ever sucked a d***?' Model Laura La Rue, 33, also alleged she met Leto in 2008 when she was 16 and he was 36, at a Yes! on Prop Two animal rights benefit. She said: 'He asked how old I was. I said, 'I'm 16. How old are you?'' La Rue claimed Jared still asked for her number despite knowing her age, and later invited her to his Los Angeles home, where he was 'flirting' and 'teasing (her) the whole time (she) was there.' Jared's representative denied La Rue's and the other accounts to Air Mail, stating: 'Their communications contain nothing sexual or inappropriate and Ms. La Rue later applied to work as Mr. Leto's personal assistant, further underscoring the absence of anything inappropriate in any of their interactions.' La Rue denied applying for such a role. More females made leads accusations against Jared to Air Mail, while sources also described parties at his Los Angeles home with a ratio of 60 'very young women to four or five men', where guests were allegedly encouraged to skinny dip. Jared's publicist said the actor 'has not had a drink or used drugs in over 35 years'.

'It's real, it's fast': Shadow employment minister Tim Wilson sounds alarm on the threat of AI on Australia's workforce
Shadow employment minister Tim Wilson has sounded the alarm on artificial intelligence (AI) being on track to upturn Australia's workforce. Mr Wilson, who oversees the Coalition's industrial relations, employment and small business portfolios, said the Albanese government had 'outdated thinking' which risked Australia becoming 'uncompetitive' if it fails to adapt to the unstoppable force of AI. Speaking to Sky News Sunday Agenda, Mr Wilson expressed concern about 'emergent challenges' surrounding industrial relations, particularly the advent of AI. ' A classic example (of future IR challenges)… is going to be the emergence of artificial intelligence and how it's going to change the structure of the workplace,' he said. 'If we don't actually grapple with this and lean into this challenge, we might as a nation find ourselves very much in a position of being uncompetitive.' Mr Wilson said the employment uptake of US graduates into industries exposed to AI had declined and warned the same challenge was 'coming at us'. 'It's real. It's fast, and it's going to be one that we have to start to lean into as a country,' he said. 'A lot of Labor's outdated thinking around industrial relations is based on the legacy of 19th century thinking. It is not based on where my focus is, which is building an employment environment for the 21st century.' Last week, Liberal Senator Andrew Bragg told Sky News that Mr Wilson made a 'good point' by highlighting the Australian education system was not keeping up with the demand for AI in the workforce. Mr Bragg said Australia needed to prepare for the 'massive disruption' AI would have. 'Right now, what you see is a huge war between China and the US on who can best develop and deploy AI in their economy,' he said. 'I don't think we had the opportunity to talk to the Australian people about the great opportunities that can be found in these disruptive technologies like AI. 'But the good news is we still have time to do it over the next few years, and that's what we're looking to do alongside our other economic colleagues, Ted O'Brien, James Paterson, Tim Wilson.'

Pheobe Bishop: Donations flood in after fundraising page set up in memory of the Bundaberg teen
A fundraiser has been set up in memory of Pheobe Bishop, after police confirmed they discovered human remains in their search for the missing 17-year-old. A message shared on the official GoFundMe page says that in honour of Pheobe's memory, the proceeds will be donated to support services such as the SES, who 'volunteer their time without reimbursement and have played an integral part of finding missing loved ones in our community.' Funds will also be donated to the Y School in Bundaberg, where Pheobe attended. 'On May 15, 2025, our world was shattered when Pheobe Bishop, a bright, kind-hearted, and deeply loved young woman, was taken from us far too soon. Her life was tragically cut short, and those responsible are now in custody,' a message on the page reads. 'Pheobe had a gentle soul and a generous spirit — always caring for others and standing up for what was right. We want her legacy to live on by paying it forward to the amazing volunteers and community. 'All funds raised will be donated to these carefully chosen community groups that work to support our Wide Bay community. 'This is more than a fundraiser — this is a tribute to a beautiful life, and a call to action to protect the most vulnerable in our communities.' Pheobe's mother, Kylie Johnson, shared the fundraising page on her Facebook on Saturday, supporting the decision to give back to the community 'in honour of Phee.' At the time of reporting, almost 100 donations have been made, raising nearly $5000. The goal is to raise $17,000. On Saturday, police confirmed human remains were found in the Good Night National Park near Gin Gin and a crime scene was established. Wide Bay Burnett Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield said additional testing and examination had to take place to formally identify the remains as Pheobe's. 'We always wanted to bring Pheobe home, and we believe that this is the first step in that process,' Det-Insp Mansfield said. 'We do hope that this development, coupled with the bring some level of closure to Pheobe's family so they can begin to move forward with their grieving process.' On Thursday, Queensland Police charged James Wood, 34, and Tamika Bromley, 33, with one count each of murder and two counts each of interfering with a corpse. At 2.30pm on Friday, officers discovered what they believe is Pheobe's body. A vigil will be held for the 17-year-old on Sunday afternoon at Kolan Community Park in Gin Gin.
