Carlos Sainz Sr. confirms he's not running to lead auto racing governing body
LONDON (AP) — Carlos Sainz Sr. has confirmed he won't run for the presidency of the FIA — the governing body for auto racing series like Formula 1.
Sainz, the father of F1 driver Carlos Sainz Jr., announced Wednesday that his decision followed months spent trying to 'understand in depth the situation at the FIA' as well as the 'demands and complexities' of the job.

"After thoughtful reflection, I have come to the conclusion that the present circumstances are not ideal to set the grounds for my candidacy," he wrote in a statement.
Sainz Sr. had been the only opposition to current FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem in December's election.

The son of former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas and an incoming USC basketball freshman said he was heading home from shooting practice on April 24 when his Cybertruck suddenly lost control, crashing into a fire hydrant and a tree. 'I've been really getting back into it, especially where I was to where I am now. I feel like I've gotten a lot better. And then especially seeing my teammates, it's really motivated me a lot to push forward and to keep up with the team. 'Getting out of the hospital, that was my main focus. I already thought about the team.'

(AP) — Fluminense held the Mamelodi Sundowns to a scoreless draw on Wednesday, denying the South African club the win they needed to advance to the knockout round at the Club World Cup. Fluminense finished second in Group F to Borussia Dortmund, which defeated Ulsan 1-0 in a simultaneous game in Cincinnati. (AP Photo/Kayla Wolf) MILWAUKEE (AP) — Making his third major league start, Jacob Misiorowski threw five shutout innings and the Milwaukee Brewers earned a 4-2 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Paul Skenes on Wednesday. Misiorowski (3-0) allowed two hits, walked two and struck out eight and threw 74 pitches and lowered his ERA to 1.13 for the Brewers, who took two of three in the series and climbed a season-high nine games over .500. Advertisement Misiorowski, 23, entered the game having given up one hit and two runs in 11 innings over his first two outings since being promoted from Triple-A Nashville on June 12. Skenes, also 23 and the reigning NL Rookie of the Year and a starter in the 2024 All-Star Game, allowed all four runs in the second inning. Skenes (4-7) gave up four hits with two walks and four strikeouts and threw 78 pitches for the Pirates. The Brewers sent nine batters to the plate in the second inning. After loading the bases with no outs, Milwaukee scored its first run on Joey Ortiz's ground out dribbler to Skenes. Eric Haase followed with a bloop double to drive in another. The Brewers extended the lead when Sal Frelick grounded into a fielder's choice, while Christian Yelich capped the scoring with an RBI single. Trevor Megill earned his 18th save for the Brewers.
