Full list of car models that are top target for thieves in the UK
Motorists have been put on red alert as Lexus cars have now become the prime target for car thieves, surpassing the previously favoured Range Rovers from Jaguar Land Rover. The DVLA's latest statistics show that Lexus vehicles might be increasingly targeted, with five models from the luxury carmaker appearing in the top 10 list of most stolen vehicles.
The DVLA's analysis of the car theft data for 2024, which saw more than 61,000 cars pinched, reveals that while the Ford Fiesta tops the chart in absolute numbers, it is less likely to be stolen compared to the number of Fiestas on the road. In a worrying trend, the Lexus ES 300 has been identified as the car most likely to be nicked last year, with one in 30 falling into the hands of thieves.
Other Lexus models at risk include the RX 450, LC 500, UX 250, and NX 300, reports the Express. Toyota, the parent company of Lexus, has responded to these alarming figures by pointing out their significant investment in security measures.
They said: "Toyota GB has invested millions of pounds in a variety of security solutions. Our anti-theft measures form part of a nationwide customer care offering."
They also highlighted their efforts to protect customers' vehicles, adding: "For example, at a cost of more than £10million to Lexus, selected customers were provided with a free Tracker vehicle location service.
"As a result, a 96% recovery rate has been achieved. We have subsequently rolled out Tracker installation as an option for buyers of certain models."
While the latest figures might be disheartening for Lexus owners, they simultaneously shine a light on the strides Jaguar Land Rover has taken to secure their vehicles, positioning them amongst the most well-defended motors in Britain.
Clive Wain, head of police liaison at Tracker, a company dedicated to vehicle protection, has praised the advancements made by the renowned British marque. He also emphasised the ongoing battle to keep stolen cars from being shipped overseas.
He said: "Lexus is making considerable efforts to protect its customers' cars but JLR suffered a rise in thefts sooner than it and so has had more time to react and develop solutions.
"However, its cars are still being stolen. There is a thriving market overseas for Lexus, JLR and other premium vehicles and we recover many at docksides."

Toyota reports a 37% drop in profit, cuts its forecast due to Trump's tariffs
Toyota 's profit plunged 37% in the April-June quarter, the company said Thursday, cutting its full year earnings forecasts largely because of President Donald Trump's tariffs. The Japanese automaker said it based its report on the assumption that Trump's tariffs on exports from Japan, including autos, would be 12.5% starting this month. As of now they stand at 15%. The world's top automaker also makes vehicles in Mexico and Canada. Toyota's profit in the last quarter totaled 841 billion yen, or $5.7 billion, down from 1.33 trillion yen in the same period the year before. Its quarterly sales rose 3%. The status of those exports is unclear since Mexico and Canada are beneficiaries of the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement, renegotiated from a 1990s pact during Trump's first term in office, that eliminated most tariffs and trade barriers between the three countries. Toyota Motor Corp.'s April-June profit totaled 841 billion yen ($5.7 billion), down from 1.33 trillion yen in the same period of 2024. Quarterly sales rose 3% to 12 trillion yen ($82 billion). Toyota said the tariffs cost its quarterly operating profit 450 billion yen ($3 billion). Cost reduction efforts and the negative impact of an unfavorable exchange rate also hurt its bottom line. The company, which makes the Camry sedan and Lexus luxury models, forecast a 2.66 trillion yen ($18 billion) profit for the full fiscal year ending in March 2026, down from an earlier forecast for a 3.1 trillion yen ($21 billion) profit. Toyota earned nearly 4.8 trillion yen in the previous fiscal year. 'Despite a challenging external environment, we have continued to make comprehensive investments, as well as improvements such as increased unit sales, cost reductions and expanded value chain profits,' Toyota said in a statement that outlined its efforts to minimize the impact of the tariffs. At the retail level, Toyota sold 2.4 million vehicles globally, with sales growing in Japan, North America and Europe from the previous year, when global retail totaled 2.2 million vehicles. And one will be gone in just four years time. The Daewoo Matiz, which was introduced to the UK market in April 1998, may no longer be seen by 2029 if ALA Insurance's findings are correct. And it's one of six cars which are predicted to disappear completely in the nextfew years. ALA Insurance looked at 24,000 declining car models in the country and estimated their typical lifespan to predict when they would be likely to vanish from our roads based on current ownership trends, reports Honest John. They used official DVLA registration data and found the Daewoo Matiz, which was rebadged as a Chevrolet in 2005, might be the first to go but it will be followed by 2030 with the Fiat Stilo and the Rover 25. And two other everyday vehicles - the popular Citroen Saxo and Peugeot 306, will vanish by 2031, says the survey. That same year could also see the demise of the MG ZR. ALA Insurance's Aimee Anderson said: "The decline of these models is largely down to age and deterioration. She added: "As MOT failures continue to rise, most owner draw the line once repair costs outweigh the car's value." Their findings showed that the Ford Fiesta is projected to have an average lifespan of 146,000 miles while a Vauxhall Corsa is expected to last 142,000 miles. As such, they took their place at the top of ALA's list of cars, which calculates expected miles against average 2025 prices, as delivering the most value for money.
