17-Year-Old Agniveer Aspirant Beaten, Poisoned Near Railway Track In UP
After his morning run, the boy was resting near a railway track when four masked youths arrived in a car, called his name, and began assaulting him without a word
A 17-year-old boy's aspiration to join the Army was tragically dashed when his routine morning run turned fatal. On Monday, Mukul, a resident of Bajhera Khurd village in Pilkhuwa of Uttar Pradesh, was attacked and poisoned after his morning exercise.
Mukul is reportedly preparing for Agniveer. On Monday morning, after finishing a run, he was sitting near the railway track outside the village when someone called out his name. As he turned, four masked youths got out of a car and began assaulting him without saying a word.
After the assault, the attackers allegedly forced a bottle of poison into Mukul's mouth, causing him to lose consciousness on the spot. A villager named Sohanlal, who happened to be passing by, saw Mukul lying unconscious and alerted his family. He was rushed to Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad, where he remains in critical condition.
The victim's father, Anil, has filed an FIR against unidentified assailants. Given the seriousness of the case, Pilkhuwa police are investigating multiple angles, including the possibility of personal rivalry and the involvement of a larger group.

11 days & counting: Op Akhal one of longest encounters with terrorists
The anti-terror operations playing out in the dense forests of Akhal Kulgam entered its 11th day on Monday, making it one of the longest encounter-cum-search operations of the decade. Hundreds of army, police and CRPF personnel have been pressed into service, with two militants, two soldiers and over five security personnel killed so far. The Army, however, has acknowledged the killing of only one militant, whose identity has so far not been revealed. (PTI File) Tough terrain proving to be a challenge Officials said they had information about the presence of a big group of militants in the forests when the operation was launched 11 days ago. 'The operation is still going on and every precaution is being taken while moving inside the forests due to the tough terrain,' a police officer privy to the details said. Director general of police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat and top Army commanders have visited the operation spot twice to get feedback from the troopers involved in this operation. Army and police are using drones, quadcopters and other surveillance gadgets to trace the hiding militants. 'In the last 11 days, there have been firing exchanges between militants and the forces. The operation is progressing slowly due to the tough terrain,' said another officer who has knowledge of this area. Other prolonged ops in the past In 2023, an operation in Garol forests in Kokernag South Kashmir spanned for seven days after two senior army officers, Colonel Manpreet Singh Commanding Officer 19 Rashtriya Rifles and Major Ashish Donchak, and a deputy SP of Humayun Muzamil Bhat were killed. The operation ended with the killing of two militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba. In 2015, security forces were engaged in a 24-day-long operation in Manigah forests in North Kashmir's Kupwara district. The Manigah operation was launched on November 17, 2015, after two-three terrorists managed to sneak into the dense forest following initial encounters with security forces, in which the Commanding Officer of 41 Rashtriya Rifles Colonel Santosh Mahadik was killed on November 17 and another officer Lt Col Karan Bir Singh Natt was injured on November 22. The terrorists, however, couldn't be traced as the operation took place close to the LoC, raising suspicion that the terrorists could have escaped to PoK. Operation Akhal is the third major encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Union Territory over the last two weeks. Under Operation Shivshakti, which took place on the intervening night of July 29-30, two suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed when the army scuttled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Digwar sector of Poonch district. Earlier, on July 28, three Pakistani terrorists were killed during an encounter in Srinagar. Codenamed Operation Mahadev, people aware of details said that one of the masterminds of Pahalgam terror attack, Suleiman Shah, was among those killed in the gunfight.

Jammu and Kashmir Operation Enters Day 11, No Terrorist Found, No Firing Reported: Sources
Srinagar: The 11-day-long anti-terrorist operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district has come to nought. No terrorist was found after a heavy exchange of firing and also killing of two army soldiers on Saturday, sources said. It was one of the longest anti-terrorist operations in the recent past in Jammu and Kashmir that witnessed heavy gunfights and explosions. At least five Pakistani terrorists were believed to be hiding. But on Saturday, after two Army soldiers, Pritpal Singh and Harminder Singh, were killed in action, it appears terrorists have managed to break the cordon, the sources said. Since then, there have been no reports of firing, even as a search operation was carried out for two days. Hundreds of troops from the Army, paratroopers, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir were involved in the operation. Ten soldiers were also injured during the protracted encounter. "Searches over the last two days have not yielded any results. There was no firing either," said a senior official. Since 2021, Pakistan has been pushing terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir who are well-trained in jungle warfare. Instead of operating in urban and populated areas, the battle-hardened terrorists engage security forces in treacherous mountains and forests. As a result, troops often suffer casualties in protracted operations. Also, flushing out terrorists from jungles requires a large-scale troop deployment for cordon and searches in challenging terrain and dense forests. The operation in Akhal was launched on August 1 after security forces received information about the presence of a large group of terrorists. In the initial shootout on the foothills forest, one local terrorist was killed. But as the encounter spread to the forest area, things became difficult for the forces as well-entrenched Pakistani terrorists targeted security forces at multiple places during the operation. Besides heavy firing and occasional explosions, drones were also seen dropping explosives on target areas in the thick alpine forests of Akhal.
