Back in the 1990s, if you coveted the ultimate American supercar, you bought yourself a Vector W8 from Jerry Weigart's California-based Vector Aeromotive. The model features fighter-jet styling and construction comprising carbon fiber, honeycomb-configured aluminum, and Kevlar. It's also fit with a 625 hp, mid-mounted twin-turbo V-8 engine.
With a zero-to-60 mph time of around 4.0 seconds and a 12-second quarter-mile time, it outpaces any Ferrari Testarossa, Lamborghini Countach, or Jaguar XJ220 of the day. Only 17 examples of the Vector W8 were built, each priced at $450,000.

In 1992, Weigart showed up at that year's Geneva Salon in Switzerland to unveil a more dramatic, more potent successor to the W8, the upgraded Vector Avtech WX-3 Prototype. While the car on display was a highly detailed, non-running model, Weigart was back the following year with the car fully developed and powered by a new twin-turbocharged 7.0-liter V-8 delivering 1,000 hp. Its suggested price was $765,000.
Sadly, the WX-3 never made it into production. A hostile takeover attempt by main investor Megatech—backed by the Indonesian government—locked Weigart in legal battles, which he ultimately lost. The only consolation was that he retained ownership of the WX-3 design and the two prototypes—the coupe and an undeveloped roadster version, also shown at Geneva in 1993.
Weigart kept both prototypes in his collection for over 25 years, though rarely showed them. Then, in 2019, two years before his death, he decided to sell, entrusting RM Sotheby's to find a buyer. The two cars were acquired by well-known Miami supercar collector and prolific Instagrammer Kris Singh.
After spending more than $300,000 with Connecticut-based restorer Miller Motorsports for a full mechanical and interior makeover of the coupe, Singh also spent a reported $116,000 upgrading the roadster. Singh subsequently sold them to a mystery buyer in Europe for an undisclosed sum. Last summer, the new buyer entered the two cars in RM Sotheby's Monterey auction, with an estimate for each vehicle set between $1.3 million and $1.5 million. Both failed to sell.
The latest chapter in the story of the two Vector WX-3 Prototypes is that Canepa—a purveyor of exotic and classic automobiles—has just added the cars to its burgeoning inventory in Scotts Valley, Calif., and is looking for buyers.
'Either Vector would be the star of any car show the world over, especially at one of the hugely popular Radwood events,' Bruce Canepa tells Robb Report. 'Both cars are one-of-one, and head-turning examples of 'the Original American Supercar.' They're just remarkable.'
The standout of the two is the fully developed, fully sorted WX-3 Coupe, painted metallic aquamarine and with just 2,625 miles on the odometer. Unlike the droptop, which carried over the original 6.0-liter, 625 hp V-8 from the W8, the WX-3 Coupe is equipped with an uprated 7.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 from John Rodeck, a motorsport-engine builder based in Paso Robles, Calif. The mill is mated to a heavily modified GM Turbo-Hydramatic 425 three-speed automatic transmission.
The WX-3 Coupe also includes TRW forged pistons, Carillo stainless-steel con rods, a dry-sump oiling system, and a pair of huge Garrett turbos. With its estimated output of more than 1,000 hp, it could be easily uprated to over 1,200 hp. As for performance, Weigart claimed the car could cover zero to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 248 mph.
Weigart liked to describe the car as 'a fighter jet on four wheels,' and just looking at it you can see why. Razor-sharp lines, a raked-back windshield, scissor-style doors, and a towering rear wing give it true supercar looks. And he backed all that style with real substance, with the car featuring an I-beam-stiff, monocoque chassis made of honeycombed aluminum and strengthened by over 5,000 aerospace-grade rivets. The body itself was made of carbon fiber reinforced by Kevlar.
The interior of the WX-3 Coupe is equally fighter-jet inspired, with billet-machined switches and a computer screen instead of traditional instruments. One oddity that remains is the strange, and uncomfortable-looking, three-across bench seat that seems more vintage Buick than supercar. In Kris Singh's renovation, the interior was retrimmed in black leather with aquamarine accents.
'Being the singular example of Vector's WX-3 Coupe, this prototype will definitely add significant cache for any discerning collector looking to bring some American supercar DNA to their collection,' says Canepa. While the company doesn't officially list a price for either Vector, Canepa suggests the previous RM Sotheby's estimate of $1.3 million to $1.5 million would be a good place to start a conversation.

Woman Gets Dealership Oil Change For Her Brand-New Toyota Tundra. Then She Catches the Technician In a Lie

A woman who brought her brand-new Toyota Tundra in for a routine oil change was shocked to catch the dealership technician in a lie. In a video posted to TikTok, the woman, who goes by the username Gabbattack (@gabbattackkk), explains what happened. 'Jesse went to go get an oil change at the Cerritos Toyota dealer, AutoNation, yesterday,' she says, adding that the appointment took almost four hours. She holds up a receipt from the dealership, showing her husband paid $120 for the oil change service. Gabbattack claims that after the appointment, her husband returned home with the intention of attaching a skid plate to the bottom of the truck. However, when he went to install the plate under the truck, he found the undercarriage coated with a thick layer of mud. This immediately raised suspicions. 'We've been off-roading, going outdoors, all that stuff,' the woman explained about the source of the mud, while displaying photos of the dirty underside of the truck taken on her husband's phone. While the presence of the mud itself wasn't an issue, what raised red flags was the condition of the supposedly new oil filter and the bolt holding it in place, both of which were still caked in mud. According to the woman, this strongly suggested to her and her husband that the oil change her husband paid for was never really performed. 'I don't know about you but that does not look like a brand-new oil filter,' she says, before adding that her husband was going to go back to the dealership to see what they had to say. Viewers Weigh In The video garnered over 429,000 views, and several commenters sent in their advice for the couple. 'I marked a dot on oil filters with a sharpie so I know they are changed! My mechanic told me that trick,' one person shared. 'This is why I do my oil changes myself. The dealers are absolutely terrible,' another said. Several claimed that this isn't an issue unique to Toyota dealerships. Owners of cars made by other well-known brands like Nissan and Honda report similar experiences. 'First and only time I went [to the Honda dealership] they said they also rotated my tires but the one I had fixed at discount tires was in the same spot. A friend also checked my oil and said it wasn't fresh,' someone complained. 'Please report it to the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR),' another person suggested. How Can Customers Ensure Their Car Is Being Serviced Properly? There are several ways to ensure your car is properly serviced at the dealership. Always ask for a detailed invoice listing each service performed, including any parts and fluids that were changed. Before leaving the dealership, inspect the vehicle if possible. Check for clean oil, new filters, or any other visible signs of work. It's also helpful to ask the technician to walk you through what was done, and request that any old parts be returned. Keep a maintenance checklist to compare to the dealership's records so you can keep track of services that have recently been completed. We've reached out to Toyota and the TikToker for comment. This Rusty Old Truck Is Actually a New Silverado Underneath

There are so many over-the-top, ostentatious, and unfortunately, ugly truck restomods out there that they all sort of blend together. But Icon makes sure its projects stand out. The Los Angeles, California-based shop known for keeping the original charm of its builds has done it again with a gorgeous 1970 Chevrolet C20 pickup. Although this truck looks like it was pulled from a scrapyard, it's actually fully modern underneath. As part of Icon's 'Derelict' series of vehicles, this Chevrolet C20 has a vintage shell with period-correct styling—and even faux rust for that truly retro look—but it sits atop a modern Silverado platform. Photo by: Icon Inside, this truck has a custom dashboard featuring amenities like a center touchscreen with a backup camera, an audio system, modern gauges, and more. Not to mention the bench seat upholstered in a lovely Connolly leather and wool plaid. The engine is a stock 5.3-liter Ecotec V-8 borrowed from the Silverado. "The biggest challenge was preserving the soul of the 1970s while ensuring today's modern, reliable technology still works flawlessly," notes Icon Founder and CEO, Jonathan Ward. "Thanks to our incredible team, we were able to maintain full OEM functionality of the Silverado's CAN bus systems—a massive engineering accomplishment that allows this build to be serviced just like a new truck." Icon doesn't list a price for this particular project either, but we can't imagine that much attention to detail comes cheap. Thankfully, this won't be the only Silverado reimagined as part of Icon's Derelict series. The shop says it has a second, 1968 C10 Short Bed already in development. 75 Source: Icon More Awesome Restomods This MGA Restomod Has a Miata's Soul. ‘The Best Or Dumbest Thing I've Ever Done': Woman Buys $500 Toyota Tacoma. Then She Takes It Off-Roading

A Toyota Tacoma pickup truck cost this woman just $500. It's either the best or worst project the TikToker has ever undertaken, according to her. Luckily, this Tacoma is from a golden era for all-terrain vehicles. TikToker and YouTuber Chloe Kuo (@chloekuotaco) posted the video on May 28. It's since gone viral. "I know $500 for a Tacoma is relatively inexpensive, but this one basically fell in my lap after some unexpected family stuff," she says to start the video. 'Which is not perfect. I mean, somebody named her 'Beater' for a reason.' The Tacoma is a 2002 model with more than 200,000 miles. 'This thing is basically a time capsule from when Tacomas were small, simple, functional, and built like tanks,' she said. 'So I immediately took it off-road for some real-world testing. And she did an awesome job at Diablo Dropoff. The shocks made the truck feel like I was riding a pogo stick.' The Diablo Dropoff is an off-road trail in Southern California's Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, known for its challenging terrain. She continued, 'But, honestly, having a truck I don't have to worry about beating is kind of amazing. So, yeah, this is either the best $500 I've ever spent or the start of a very expensive mistake. But yeah, let's build it or blow it up.' In the comments, used car owners couldn't believe the deal Kuo got on the Tacoma. 'Nah, where are you finding a $500 Tacoma????' one wrote. 'Where I live, people be asking $4,000 for 350k miles and rust.' A second user agreed, '200k miles is barely breaking in for a 2002.' A third user wrote, 'They gave you GOLD. That truck will outlast any other car or truck you will ever own.' Someone else wrote, 'Thing's got a factory moonroof. That's a rare option.' Can You Really Buy a 2002 Toyota Tacoma for $500? It doesn't seem like the commenters on TikTok are blowing smoke in Kuo's direction. A quick Carfax search shows that a used 2002 Toyota Tacoma can range in price anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000, depending on mileage and condition. So she got a screaming deal. In general, reviewers praise the 2002 Tacoma's durability and off-road handling. 'This truck does it all,' wrote one owner. Carfax, an organization that tracks used car service history, agrees. 'It's ideal for drivers who need an inexpensive small pickup for professional or recreational use, rather than a bigger, bulkier, and less fuel-efficient full-size model,' it reports. What is the Golden Era of the Tacoma? Well, according to a vote of Reddit's r/ToyotaTacoma, the third generation of Tacoma from 2016-2023 is the favorite. More than 228 voters chose the 3rd Gen model years. Kuo's 2002 Tacoma falls under the 1.5 Gen (2001-2004), and it got 33 votes. One Redditor suggested, 'I like to think that a majority of the owners on here are 3rd Gen so it may be skewed. I've driven all three gens, and I like the 2nd the best. I own a 2nd, so I'm also biased. We need another poll on ownership to go along with this poll.' Motor1 contacted Kuo via TikTok direct messages for comment. We also contacted Toyota via email for comment. We'll be sure to update this article when we hear back. Now Trending Woman Starts Driving.
