Nothing Phone 3 could ditch the iconic glyph interface
London-based smartphone maker Nothing on Thursday (May 29, 2025) hinted that its next flagship smartphone Phone 3 may not have the glyph interface. Nothing introduced the glyph lighting system at the back of the phone with the Phone 1 launched in 2022 and that's what differentiated it from the competition apart from having a transparent design.
On Thursday, Nothing shared on X (formerly Twitter), 'We killed the Glyph Interface.'
The glyph was used to notify charging status, Uber's arrival or food aggregator's location, notifications, calls and much more.
If they actually mean it then Nothing Phone 3, which is scheduled for launch in July 2025, might not have the glyph features and could be compensated with something else, possibly a dot matrix design.

Phone 3 is likely to run Snapdragon 8 Elite processor accompanied by up to 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage. A 5,000 mAh battery is also expected in Phone 3.
A 50 MP triple rear camera set up can be a possibility in Phone 3 along with a 32 MP selfie camera. The rear is more likely to have a dedicated telephoto lens.
Phone 3 could also use a 6.78 inch of flexible LTPO AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.

ETtech Explainer: What is XChat, the new DM feature coming to X
Elon Musk-owned social media platform X has been rolling out a new direct message (DM) feature to its beta users. The new DM interface will be a robust replacement for X's existing messaging feature. With XChat in the works, X has stopped encrypting the present DM feature, as it would be redundant with the new rollout. X outage: Here's how to get DMs, posts, and replies working again on Twitter
X outage: Here's how to Get DMs, posts, and replies working again on Twitter X (formerly Twitter) experienced a widespread service outage on May 31, 2025 that affected thousands of users globally. With millions relying on X for real-time news, professional networking, brand promotion, and daily communication, such disruptions can significantly affect users' ability to engage online. The outage, which impacted critical features such as posts (tweets), replies, and direct messages (DMs), sparked a flurry of complaints and confusion across other platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, and Threads. According to Downdetector, a real-time outage monitoring website, over 35,000 incident reports were filed from the United States alone within a few hours of the issue surfacing. Many users also reported problems across Europe, Asia, and South America, pointing to a potential global-scale infrastructure problem. With digital communication increasingly becoming an essential utility, understanding the impact, technical causes, and user-side troubleshooting steps is crucial. X outage today: What went wrong 1. Scope and timeline of X outage The outage began around 11:20 AM Eastern Time and rapidly escalated. Within the first 30 minutes: Users across the US, Canada, UK, Germany, India, and Brazil reported problems. Reports to Downdetector spiked from under 500 to over 35,000 in less than an hour. Key features such as posting new content, replying to existing posts, and sending/receiving DMs were either severely delayed or entirely non-functional. Some users also experienced trouble logging into their accounts or viewing notifications. 2. Impacted features Based on aggregated user feedback: Posts/tweets: Posts were delayed by several minutes or failed to upload altogether. Replies: Users could not reply to threads, or replies would disappear after posting. DMs: Direct messages failed to send, or sent messages showed no delivery status. Notifications: Some users stopped receiving engagement notifications (likes, follows, mentions). 3. Possible technical causes While X has not confirmed the source, experts suggest the following likely causes: Server overload or maintenance glitch : Background server updates or auto-scaling failures could have disrupted real-time API services. Cloud infrastructure issues : Since X operates on a mix of on-premise and third-party cloud services (rumored to include AWS and Oracle), latency or misconfiguration in cloud clusters could result in service-wide failures. Database lock or caching failures : A malfunction in Redis or Cassandra-based caches could temporarily prevent data from propagating through the system. Rate limiting algorithm errors : Over-aggressive rate limiting (a system used to prevent spam) may have mistakenly restricted normal user actions during peak usage. User reactions across platforms on X outage Without a functioning X to express their concerns, users turned to: Reddit (particularly /r/Twitter and /r/TechNews) Facebook and Instagram (with hashtags like #TwitterDown and #XNotWorking) Threads, Meta's rival platform, saw a temporary spike in new users and activity during the outage. Many professionals lamented disruptions to brand promotions, breaking news alerts, and customer service threads, especially in industries that rely on real-time engagement. What users can do when X is down: Easy fixes for posts, replies and messages If you are currently facing issues with X, here are actionable steps you can take: 1. Confirm the outage Visit Downdetector ( to verify if the issue is affecting others. Check X's status page if available, though it is often outdated. Look for trending tags like #XDown or #TwitterOutage on platforms like Reddit or Threads. 2. Refresh and retry Posts and replies Refresh the X page or relaunch the app. Wait a few minutes before attempting to post or reply again. Direct Messages (DMs) Fully close and reopen the app. Retry sending the message; many users report intermittent functionality. 3. Clear cache and cookies On browser: Go to Settings > Privacy > Clear Browsing Data. Clear cache and cookies and restart the browser. On mobile app (Android/iOS): Navigate to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear Cache. Restart the app or device afterward to reload a clean version. 4. Try a different platform or connection Switch from app to browser or vice versa. Try using mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, or switch to a different Wi-Fi network. Use a VPN or proxy server if your region has inconsistent access. 5. Check rate limits X enforces a cap of 2,400 tweets per day, with 600 DMs and 1,000 likes per day for most accounts. If you receive a 'You are rate limited' error: Wait 10 minutes and retry. Avoid mass replying or tweeting in bursts. Visit Settings > Account > Account Activity to monitor recent flags or suspicious behavior. 6. Use third-party tools to schedule or view posts While the core X platform may be down, some API-based tools may still show timelines or allow scheduled posting if APIs are not completely affected. X reports second big outage as Musk leaves DOGE with a black eye and nearly Rs 150 lakh crore savings
Just as Elon Musk was signing off from his brief stint in the US government, users of his platform, X (formerly Twitter), were struggling to sign in. According to Downdetector, a service that monitors real-time outages, tens of thousands of users reported problems accessing the app on Friday afternoon in the US. It is noteworthy that X suffered a similar outage in India a few days ago as well. advertisementAt the height of the disruption, around 4.19 PM ET (1.30 AM IST), more than 34,000 users flagged issues, most of them related to the mobile app. Another 38 per cent cited problems with the web interface, and a small number faced server connectivity issues. A few users even encountered a strange greeting message reading, 'Welcome to X!', as though they were logging in for the very first time. Within half an hour, the number of reported outages had dropped to around 1,500, but the X Developer Platform status page confirmed a 'site-wide outage', cautioning developers about widespread 503 errors. The platform warned, 'You may experience 503 errors for the following endpoints: Get User Timeline / Get Tweets / Get DM / Create Tweet.'advertisement All of this digital drama unfolded just as Elon Musk was making his exit from the US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a Trump administration task force aimed at trimming federal spending. Musk, who had taken on the role of a Special Government Employee for a limited term, confirmed his departure on X.'As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,' Musk posted. He added, 'The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.'While Musk has officially stepped down, a senior administration official told CNN he may still be involved as an "unofficial advisor" and could appear in future White House meetings. And just to keep things interesting, Musk said he will now lead an "austerity team" tasked with hunting down fraud and waste in the federal his time with DOGE, Musk says he helped the government save a massive $175 billion (around Rs 150 lakh crore) by cutting wasteful spending. This included cancelling contracts, selling unused assets, and stopping incorrect payments. According to the DOGE website, that adds up to about $1,086.96 (around Rs 93,000) in savings for every US of the biggest changes happened at USAID, the agency that handles foreign aid. After a six-week review, DOGE shut down 83 per cent of its programmes and cancelled over 5,000 contracts. Grok has thoughts (Of course it does)No Musk milestone would be complete without a cheeky comment from Grok — the AI chatbot developed by his company, xAI. When prompted by an X user to summarise Musk's time with DOGE, Grok delivered a rather detailed performance review.'As a Special Government Employee, Elon Musk led the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), claiming $160 billion (Rs 136 lakh crore) in savings by terminating wasteful contracts, like $255 million (Rs 2,181 crore) from 269 contracts, and modernising IT systems, such as digitising the OPM retirement process,' Grok added that DOGE also helped clean up Social Security records and backed voter integrity measures. But not without controversy. Grok noted that critics argue these changes could cost the government $135 billion (Rs 115 lah crore) in lost productivity, lawsuits, and service hiccups. Public opinion remains divided: 'Concerns about Musk's business conflicts and political motivations persist, with public opinion divided, as 54 per cent view him unfavourably.' In its trademark tone, Grok wrapped things up by saying, 'The true impact of DOGE remains debated amid ongoing scrutiny.'So, in a single week, X faced a platform-wide outage and its owner stepped away from federal service while his AI offered a somewhat smug summary of his public-sector performance. Whether you're into politics, tech, or the chaos where the two meet, it's clear that Musk's influence isn't going offline any time soon — even if his app occasionally does. Tune In
