Rameshwaram Café denies allegations of food contamination
According to the formal complaint lodged by the brand's Operations Head, the incident occurred on the morning of July 24, when a group of 5-7 individuals created a public disturbance, falsely alleging that the food served contained an insect. Reportedly, the individuals then threatened to circulate the video on social media unless they were compensated. Shortly after, the team received a phone call demanding ₹25 lakhs in cash to avoid reputational harm to the brand. In response,
The Rameshwaram Café has submitted call records, message screenshots, and other documentation to the police, requesting immediate legal action against the blackmail attempt. Dismissing the allegations, Divya Raghav, Founder of The Rameshwaram Café, stated, 'We categorically deny the baseless accusation that a worm or insect was found in our food. The safety and hygiene of our food preparation are non-negotiable. We operate under the strictest quality protocols, especially at sensitive locations like airports, where routine audits and hygiene checks are mandatory. This is clearly a case of a staged act with malicious intent to extort money and malign our brand.'
Divya further added, 'There have been similar attempts in the past where in different instances customers have put stones, insects in the food but were caught red-handed.

MNS workers beat up food stall operator over anti-Marathi remarks
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Thane, Aug 9 (PTI) Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activists allegedly assaulted a food stall operator in Kalyan area of Thane district, accusing him of making derogatory remarks against Marathi people and Raj Thackeray. Taking cognisance of the viral video, a police official said the law and order monitoring has been stepped up. The incident occurred at a hotel in Durgamata Mandir Chowk area on Friday. The video clip shows MNS's Kalyan (East) office-bearer Kush Rajput and other workers confronting the operator of a south Indian food outlet and beating him up. He was forced to apologise and made to promise that he wouldn't make such remarks in future. The incident comes against the backdrop of MNS workers thrashing a north Indian sweet shop owner in the Mira Bhayandar area, also in Thane district, for being unable to speak Marathi. Police had registered a case in the Mira Bhayandar incident. 'We have seen the video of the Kalyan incident circulating on social media. As of now, no police complaint has been filed. We have stepped up law and order monitoring in the area," he added. Attacks on north Indian migrants settled in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region increased in the last two months amid a row over the implementation of a three-language policy in Maharashtra. Amid a hue and cry over the imposition of Hindi in the school curriculum, the Mahayuti government had to withdraw two Government Resolutions in June that reportedly made Hindi a default third language for students of classes one to five. Thane Restaurant Owner Allegedly Threatens Marathis, Apologises After MNS Workers Show Up
Mumbai: A restaurant owner in Thane was threatened by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers over allegations that he used abusive language against the Marathi language. A video of the incident that happened in Thane's Kalyan town has gone viral on social media. In the video, the owner of the restaurant which serves south Indian dishes was seen surrounded by MNS workers who told him to speak in Marathi, and asked why he used abusive language on Marathi-speakers. One of the MNS workers also grabbed the restaurant owner's collar. Later, the hotel owner and two of the MNS workers including the one who grabbed his collar appeared in another video in which they made peace. "I would like to tell Raj Thackeray and MNS that I have apologised," the hotel owner said, flanked by the two MNS workers. One of the MNS workers then said they have no problem with anyone coming to make a living in Maharashtra. "We have no opposition to any non-Marathi speaker. Even Raj Thackeray says whoever lives here, speaks Marathi and respects Marathi identity, we always treat them with respect," the MNS worker said. "But this person lives here, does business here, and while speaking to someone, a video/audio clip has come to us in which he says, 'We will beat the Marathi man until he is red with blood.' For such wrong statements, he has already been made to understand," the MNS worker said. "From now on, if such people speak wrongly about the Marathi language or about Marathi people, then we will show them their place," he added. Despite the tension over the language row, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said there is no dispute between Marathi and Hindi-speaking communities and warned against those trying to stoke tensions. Last month, the civic education department warned of action against schools in Thane if they violated norms and taught Hindi as a third language to primary students. Thane City Education Officer Kamalakant Mhetre said Marathi teaching norm applies to schools affiliated with the Maharashtra board and not to CBSE-run schools.
