The Green Bay Packers put together a solid season in 2024, winning 11 games and reaching the playoffs for the second year in a row under quarterback Jordan Love. However, their 0-6 record against the Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Minnesota Vikings—three of the NFC's top teams—highlighted a clear gap. Green Bay proved capable of handling weaker and average opponents, but they consistently came up short when matched against elite competition.

Green Bay was a talented team, but much of the roster had yet to reach its full potential. That is understandable, given Matt LaFleur's squad was the NFL's youngest team for the second straight year. While it is a bonus when young players contribute early, there is a natural learning curve for most rookies and second-year players as they adjust to the speed and complexity of the pro game.
As the Packers head into 2025, it is reasonable to expect many players to take the next step in their development. One of those players is Javon Bullard, a former second-round pick who should play a significant role in Jeff Hafley's defense. Clutch Sports' Enzo Flojo even named him an underrated sleeper on the team, highlighting the challenges he faced during his rookie year.

"Packers fans were understandably excited when Green Bay double-dipped at safety in the 2024 draft. But by the end of the season, fourth-rounder Evan Williams appeared to have outplayed second-rounder Javon Bullard," Flojo wrote. "On paper, the gap was wide. Williams allowed a passer rating of just 77.8 when targeted. Meanwhile, Bullard gave up a staggering 120.6."

"However, that surface-level comparison leaves out crucial context. Bullard was asked to play multiple roles—slot corner, box safety, and deep safety—all while adjusting to the speed and complexity of NFL offenses," he added. "That's an enormous task for any rookie. It's no surprise he looked overextended at times. Still, that trial by fire could pay dividends in 2025. With more defined responsibilities and another offseason to digest the playbook, Bullard is positioned to make a significant Year 2 leap.
Flojo also mentioned that Bullard's versatility and physicality are the biggest strengths of his game and that the best way for Green Bay to maximize his potential is by letting him settle into one role.
"What Bullard brings to the table is versatility and physicality. He plays downhill with confidence and flashes the range to track the ball in space," he wrote. "Bullard has the traits to thrive—if he's not asked to do too much, too soon."
The former Bulldog had a peculiar rookie year. He was one of only five defensive backs to log at least 250 snaps both in the slot and at free safety—and the first rookie to do so since 2007. Jeff Hafley is a big fan of Bullard, and while he may not have a guaranteed starting spot entering 2025, he should remain heavily featured in the Packers' secondary.

Packers HC Matt LaFleur Hit With Blatant Disrespect in New Ranking

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Green Bay Packers and head coach Matt LaFleur will enter the 2025 NFL season as a team many expect to be a contender in the NFC. Led by Jordan Love, the offense looks to be explosive with elite young talent at the wide receiver position. They also have Josh Jacobs leading the way on the ground. Defensively, the Packers look to have the talent needed to be very competitive. There are still questions about the cornerback position and the pass rush, but second-year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley will have his unit flying around the field making plays. Photo byAhead of training camp and preseason action, LaFleur has received major disrespect. He is one of the most underrated coaches in the game and a new take from an NFL analyst shows that very clearly. Read more: Ex-Packers Defensive Star Breaks Silence on Possible Return Pro Football Focus analyst Dalton Wasserman took a look at the top 10 returning head coaches entering the 2025 season. LaFleur didn't even make the cut for him. On the list in order were Andy Reid, Sean Payton, Sean McVay, John Harbaugh, Mike Tomlin, Jim Harbaugh, Kyle Shanahan, Nick Sirianni, Dan Campbell, and Kevin Stefanski. Most of those names do belong on the list. However, there are real questions about how Stefanski made the list over LaFleur. To this point in his career after taking over as Green Bay's head coach ahead of the 2019 NFL season, LaFleur has led the team to a 67-33 record. He has been to two NFC Championship Games and has only missed the playoffs in one out of his six seasons as the Packers' head coach. As for Stefanski, the Cleveland Browns' lead man has compiled a 40-44 career record since taking over in 2020 and has led the team to two playoff appearances in five years. Read more: Vikings Teammate Speaks Out Boldly About JJ McCarthy This is not a slight towards Stefanski. Rather, it's a simple acknowledgment that LaFleur has a better record and has led his teams to more success. Even after Green Bay traded legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers and were expected to rebuild, LaFleur has led them to the playoffs in two straight years. Despite the disrespect, the Packers' head coach is simply focused on winning. He wants to bring a championship back to Lambeau Field and "Titletown." It's about time for the NFL take take notice of just how elite of a head coach LaFleur has been throughout his career and see the trajectory he has the franchise heading in even without Rodgers leading the charge. Fans livid after Wisconsin governor sends millions to cover Green Bay draft expenses

Fans livid after Wisconsin governor sends millions to cover Green Bay draft expenses originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Packer fans are furious with Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers after he announced the state would cover nearly $2 million worth of expenses related to the 2025 NFL Draft. Advertisement Wisconsin's legislature last week voted to remove funding from its 2025 state budget which would have covered expenses incurred by the city of Green Bay, city of Ashwaubenon and Brown County during the three-day event. Despite this decision, the governor argued Green Bay should be reimbursed for the public safety costs related to the draft. 'The 2025 NFL Draft was a booming success, and I've said all along that nobody could have pulled it off other than the Green Bay Packers and the good folks in Green Bay and across the region,' a press release on the decision reads. 'So, it was critically important to me that Green Bay and our local partners received the support they need to cover public safety costs, and I'm glad we were able to get this done.' Fans reacting to the governor's announcement via X made it clear they were not happy with the decision. 'You mean to tell me that 2 MILLION DOLLARS could not have gone to our homeless veterans??' Advertisement 'You all need 2 million for public safety during the football draft?' another asked. 'Have you thought about not drinking so much?' 'This was nothing more than a publicity stunt, a pandering to Green Bay and Wisconsin and now that is all over, you just hand over $2 Million?!' another used asked. 'Meanwhile kids in this state continue to suffer through outdated and useless cancer treatments because you have decided that WI will remain a state that provides zero dollars to research and veto any attempt to change that.' Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, however, cheered the governor's decision as a win for the city. 'The @CityofGreenBay could not ask for a better partner than @GovEvers,' he wrote. 'He's been our champion at every turn, on every issue. Thanks also to Sec. Missy Hughes for recognizing the immensely positive statewide economic effect of the Draft and for making our local taxpayers whole!! Advertisement Brown County Executive Troy Streckenbach also publicly thanked the governor, adding "Brown County did a great job hosting the biggest event in our history!" "I am glad that @GovEvers did what the Republicans on the budget-writing committee failed to do: see that our community's investment in public safety during the Draft benefitted all of Wisconsin," State Senator Jamie Wall added. The draft drew roughly 600,000 people to Green Bay, generating an estimated $94 million in economic impact on the Badger State according to Gov. Evers's press release. The Green Bay area benefitted from an estimated $20 million of those dollars, the release added. Is LaFleur on the Hot Seat? Packers President Says He's Not Keen on Contract Extension

Is LaFleur on the Hot Seat? Packers President Says He's Not Keen on Contract Extension originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Incoming Green Bay Packers President Ed Policy said last week he isn't keen on extending key members of team leadership, including head coach Matt LaFleur, ahead of the 2025 season. Advertisement Policy acknowledged during a June 13 press conference that both general manager Brian Gutekunst and LaFleur each have two years left in their contracts. Despite this, he explained that neither should expect an extension anytime soon. "All three of them [are] under multi-year contracts," Policy said of Gutekunst, LaFleur and executive vice president/director of football operations Russ Ball. "None of them are up at the end of this year. We won't be doing anything going into this season." Policy added, however, that he has a 'terrific' relationship with LaFleur and believes he continues to perform at a high level. 'You've got three exceptional people doing an exceptional job right now and working well together,' Policy said. 'I feel very good about all three of those individuals. I love them. I trust them. I respect them.' Matt LaFleur confers with a refereeDan Powers/USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin The Packers president also explained wins and losses are 'too simple an answer' to the question of LaFleur's longevity with the team. Advertisement 'At the end of the day, we are here to win football games, so it does start with that,' Policy said. 'But coaches are fundamentally teachers, I think. They develop people, so you evaluate them on how they're developing people.' 'First, with the players, are they developing players individually?' he added. 'Are players getting better? … And then, are they improving as a team? What's the locker room culture like? Is it cohesive? And is it one team or is it a bunch of individuals?' Though Policy's comments don't rule out an extension for LaFleur eventually, his remarks likely indicate the head coach must have a strong showing in his seventh season with the team following a lackluster 2024 campaign. This pressure could make 2025 a make or break season for LaFleur and the Packers. LaFleur joined the team in 2019, succeeding longtime coach Mike McCarthy. He has since led the team to a 67-33 record in the regular season and a 3-5 postseason record, including two NFC Championship games.
