Add Thursday's Diamondbacks comeback to the lineup.

Pittsburgh Steelers Projected to Swing Big Move for Aaron Rodgers

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Pittsburgh Steelers have definitely swung for the fences this offseason, adding big names like Aaron Rodgers, D.K. Metcalf and Jalen Ramsey to significantly bolster their Super Bowl chances. However, after trading away George Pickens, it's pretty evident that the Steelers are lacking proven depth in the wide receiver department. More news: Steelers Predicted to Replace Aaron Rodgers With Polarizing INT Leader Sure, Metcalf is terrific, but there isn't a whole lot behind him in the wide receiver room, which could spell some trouble for Pittsburgh this coming season. But at this point, who could the Steelers bring in to provide more help for Rodgers? Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley has identified a potential solution and is predicting Pittsburgh to sign five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper, who is still available in free agency. "Declining isn't the same as #washed, so Cooper should be able to help the right team," Buckley wrote. "He'd have a non-zero chance of stabilizing the WR2 role in Pittsburgh one would think." Aaron Rodgers #8 of the Pittsburgh Steelers looks to pass during Minicamp at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex on June 11, 2025 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Photo byCooper played for both the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills last season, totaling 44 catches for 547 yards and four touchdowns over 14 games in what was the least productive campaign in his NFL career. That being said, the 31-year-old is just two years removed from hauling in 72 receptions for 1,250 yards and five scores in what was arguably his best season, so perhaps Cooper still has something left in the tank. It couldn't hurt the Steelers to give Cooper a shot. He probably wouldn't cost much at this juncture, and he is at the very least a proven weapon who should be able to add something to Pittsburgh's aerial attack. More news: Caleb Williams' WR Comments are Bad Sign for Bears Rookie Otherwise, the Steelers will be relying on young options like Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson, which doesn't inspire a ton of confidence. It has always seemed hard to imagine Pittsburgh will enter the regular season with its wide receiver form as currently constructed, so maybe the Steelers will make a move here before Week 1. Former Eagles coach stakes his future on a rival's failed former first-round pick

Shane Steichen needs to win now in Indianapolis, and he's staked his future on Daniel Jones having success as the Colts' starting quarterback Who's interested in some Shane Steichen news? There's no hard feelings towards those of you who aren't. It's completely understandable. His stint with the Philadelphia Eagles feels like it was ten years ago, but it wasn't. Shortly after the final seconds trickled away in Super Bowl 57, his and Jonathan Gannon's time in the City of Brotherly Love was over. Both accepted jobs as head coaches for other franchises. Gannon didn't have to leave Glendale, as he took over for the Arizona Cardinals. Steichen, like Frank Reich before him, accepted the Indianapolis Colts' job after an Eagles Super Bowl appearance. Fast forward to the present, and both are sitting in seats that are much hotter than they were upon the arrival of both men. To succeed in the NFL, every head coach must find his franchise quarterback. Gannon has hitched his wagon to Kyler Murray, and while that isn't great, he's in much better shape than Steichen. You won't believe who the latter is rolling with. A former Eagles head coach ties his coaching future to a failed Giants quarterback. Things didn't work out very well for Daniel Jones with the New York Giants. Jones was the sixth player taken in the 2019 NFL Draft, and while that seems like a reach now, there weren't many better options. The alternatives were Drew Lock, Will Grier, Ryan Finley, and Jarrett Stidham. Then again, Gardner Mishew was in that draft, but he wasn't taken until Round 6. Philadelphia passed on him to take Clayton Thorson 11 spots earlier. You can't make this stuff up. Anyway, let's get back to the Steichen and Jones arrangement. The former is probably in a prove-it, win-or-go-home situation. The latter ended a six-year run in the Big Apple with a record well below .500. Sixty-nine starts produced a 24-44-1 win-loss total. By naming Jones as his starter for the coming season, it can also be argued that the Colts seem content to close the door on the Anthony Richardson era. Time will tell. Anything can happen, but all of that has been said to say the following. As well-run as the Eagles are, they look even better each time you look at how teams like the Colts, Cardinals, and Giants are being managed.

Nick Sirianni compares John Metchie to a player Eagles fans will appreciate

Nick Sirianni compares John Metchie to a player Eagles fans will appreciate The weather is cooling somewhat, and thank goodness. Philadelphia Eagles head coach spent about 14 minutes with the local media. He complimented the recently promoted Kevin Patullo. Discussions about the offensive line and swing tackles were on the menu. As expected, he skated past whether or not A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith's injuries would prevent them from Week 1 action. It's hard to understand why anyone still wastes time asking such questions. He's never going to give a straightforward answer. Coach did, however, pipe up when the conversation briefly shifted to John Metchie. Current Eagles stars from the Alabama Crimson Tide have that effect on the conversation. Having been allowed to discuss the team's new wideout, Coach Sirianni morphed into the usually expressive guy we have all gotten to know and love. Okay, let's make sure we are all on the same sheet of music. Though he mentioned DeVonta Smith's name at the end of his thought there, we all should have figured out that's who he was referencing when stating these guys must have been "coached by the same guys." Something tells us Landon Dickerson didn't run a ton of posts and out routes. During the 2020 college football season, Smith went off and won the Heisman Trophy, among other postseason honors. Metchie was the second leading receiver on that year's squad. Also, the only four Eagles on the current team who played with Metchie during his time in Tuscaloosa were Smith, Cameron Latu, Byron Young, and Landon Dickerson. It isn't hard to figure out where Coach got his information from. So far, Metchie has hauled in 40 receptions for 412 yards, and he has reached the end zone once. On this roster, he'll be lucky to notch those numbers in two seasons with Philadelphia. He won't be getting the ball much. Still, there aren't many NFL stars on any team who can tap their toes on the sideline as well or better than Smith. If Metchie has that level of talent, more excitement should grow about his acquisition. In the meantime, while we sort all of that out, the Eagles' wide receiver room is undoubtedly better than it was at this time a week ago.
